Posted September 18Sep 18 With all the attention given to cheesesteaks, other Philly favorite eateries and dishes haven't gotten the accolades they deserve. I'll start with this one - Ron's Ribs was on South Street. Before Ron took over the location, it was Bea Bea's Lawnside barbeque, and the place was the bomb. Ribs cooked in what seemed like a 100 year old fire pit. The sauce was, and I believe still is, a spicy, savory vinegar base. Bea Bea had two staples - ribs and fried chicken. A rib sandwich consisted of a slice of white bread, on top of which a slab of ribs cooked in the fire pit was placed, with a heavy douse of her signature sauce, and on top of that, another single slice of white bread. Same for the fried chicken which was off the charts. Her fried chicken sandwich was that same slice of white bread, a half of crispy to the bone fried chicken on top of that, with a nice amount of that barbeque sauce, on top of which was another slice of white bread. When I went there in the 70's and 80's, it seemed like Bea Bea was well into her 80's. The business had a great reputation and was widely known and loved in the area. Ron bought her out and foolishly changed the name to Ron's Ribs - something he said he regretted later in life.https://www.ronssignaturesauce.com/about-us
