Former FBI Director James Comey indicted on criminal charges

"No one is above the law," Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote in a post on X as news of the indictment of James Comey broke.

He should have recommended charges against Hillary years ago

We’ll see how smart the grand jury is on this.

Comey said mean things about Trump with seashells so Trump wants him in prison. They are trying to charge him with lying to congress even though there is no evidence that he did. The first lawyer Trump assigned this to resigned, so he found a sycophant that would go forward with it.

The indictments are narrow. Comey's problem was running his mouth.

And he will never be found guilty. Next

We'll get to find that out together.

I get how this looks, however, it should be noted that a grand jury issued the indictment. So this isn't simply a case of the DOJ charging someone with a crime. They brought the case to a grand jury, presented the evidence, and a grand jury said "yes, there's enough probable cause here that a crime may have been committed, you can proceed with bringing formal charges".

I don’t care about comey…but if you don’t think this is direct weaponization of the doj by the president to go after his "enemies", you’re an idiot.

Oh, he clearly pressured his AG to go after Comey. There's no doubt about that, I think he even said so in public. So yeah, he's an idiot and presidents should not be dictating to the AG their priorities for prosecution. The DOJ is supposed to be operate independently from the White House when it comes to prosecutorial decisions. These are not mutually exclusive things. It is possible that Comey did in fact lie in his testimony to congress, and it can be also true that the evidence that potentially supports that claim is flimsy and therefore a truly independent DOJ wouldn't have bothered going to a grand jury for an indictment because there isn't a great chance to win this case, but Trump made this happen.

Could they get Comey on a misdemeanor and turn it into 34 felonies?
