So yeah, he's an idiot and presidents should not be dictating to the AG their priorities for prosecution. The DOJ is supposed to be operate independently from the White House when it comes to prosecutorial decisions. These are not mutually exclusive things. It is possible that Comey did in fact lie in his testimony to congress, and it can be also true that the evidence that potentially supports that claim is flimsy and therefore a truly independent DOJ wouldn't have bothered going to a grand jury for an indictment because there isn't a great chance to win this case, but Trump made this happen. He hired and fired the previous attorney who wouldn't prosecute the case

So this isn't simply a case of the DOJ charging someone with a crime. They brought the case to a grand jury, presented the evidence, and a grand jury said "yes, there's enough probable cause here that a crime may have been committed, you can proceed with bringing formal charges".When I made that point when Trump was indicted I was told a grand jury would indict a ham sandwich and that it was meaningless.
Friday at 03:50 PM2 days Yesterday the Democrats were screaming that prosecutors in Virginia were claiming the indictment was too shaky to bring, then today we get this:I'm sure the 2 things are completely unrelated.

Trump fired the AG in the relevant district because he refused to prosecute and then commanded Bondi to go after Comey. A group of veteran officials in the relevant district were clear in their recommendation that there was not enough evidence to even go to trial let alone convict. This is a pure political revenge event. The NY Trump trials against a then citizen were a complete joke. That doesn't mean a sitting POTUS should direct the DOJ to go after someone as political revenge, We've become the third rate corrupt countries we always worked against since WWII.

They are trying to charge him with lying to congress even though there is no evidence that he did. The first lawyer Trump assigned this to resigned, so he found a sycophant that would go forward with it.That sounds similar to the cases brought against Trump in the past. What a shame both sides keep doing this to each other.
