Eagles lose another edge rusher to triceps injury

By Dave Zangaro • Published September 28, 2025

TAMPA — Eagles edge rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo has been ruled out with a triceps injury against the Buccaneers in the second quarter.

This is notable because the Eagles entered this game without Nolan Smith, who was placed on Injured Reserve after aggravating his surgically repaired triceps. Smith is expected to return later this season.

The Eagles in this game started Jalyx Hunt and Za’Darius Smith at outside linebacker. Their top backups against the Buccaneers were Josh Uche, Patrick Johnson and Okoronkwo. So now the Eagles are down to four edge rushers left for the second half.

The only edge rusher who was not active on Sunday was veteran Azeez Ojulari. The Eagles signed Ojulari in March but he didn’t do enough in the preseason to factor into the rotation. There’s a chance he will be needed next week.

Okoronkwo, 30, didn’t sign with the Eagles until July 22 and then flashed enough in training camp to make the team. Okoronkwo has been in the NFL since 2018 and is one of the older players on the Eagles’ defense.
