Posted Thursday at 12:17 PM2 days Simple OffensePosted October 1st, 2025One thing I think we can all agree on is that the Eagles have a fairly simple offense. Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan are better play-callers. Ben Johnson is great at designing plays. Todd Monken does some really impressive things with the Ravens offense. Nick Sirianni and the Eagles coaches don’t come close to what those guys have done in terms of creativity. The Eagles focus more on players than plays. That doesn’t always look great in games, but it does work well in the playoffs. The Eagles have scored 30 or more points in 5 of their last 8 playoff games. By comparison, Sean McVay’s teams have scored 30 or more points in just 4 of 13 playoff games. The Rams have played in two Super Bowls under him and scored a total of 26 points. Sirianni’s teams scored 68 offensive points in their SB games. The obvious counterpoint is that Sirianni has more talent. He can get away with that.Exactly.Sirianni hasn’t built an offense to impress the schematic analysts of the world. The Eagles do have some impressive plays, but the offense is built to take advantage of the star players the Eagles have. When it doesn’t work, that system can be ugly. Just look at the second half of Sunday’s game. When it does work, the results speak for themselves. This isn’t an excuse for the sloppy offense we’ve seen this year. I’m just trying to explain why you watch some other teams and see all this creativity that you don’t see from the Eagles. They are more selective about when to mix in creative plays. Think about the Tush Push fake from Sunday.Tampa has a good defense. They have handled the Tush Push better than other teams. This was the time to use the fake and sure enough it worked like a charm. Great call. Great execution.Think back to last year’s NFC title game. The Eagles used Dallas Goedert on a couple of runs.I won’t dispute that it would be nice to see the Eagles get more creative. There can be a healthy balance between what they do and opening up the playbook. Kevin Patullo has done a really good job in the red zone. He’s shown that he can be creative. The plays to Goedert were simple, but creative. Hopefully Patullo will open things up as the season goes along. We do have to remember that he’s only four games into his tenure.*****A new LS. Let’s hope Cal Adomitis is a solid addition. I won’t lie to you and tell you I know much about him.The team now has an open roster spot. You would think they would add another edge rusher since they are a bit thin in that area. We’ll see. Howie could talk to other teams to see who is available via trade. As some teams have their seasons slip away, that may put some guys on the trade market.Vic Fangio was asked about using Jihad Campbell at edge. Fangio said he didn’t see that happening right now. He does use Campbell and Zack Baun as overhang defenders in some looks, which is similar but still different than being a pure edge rusher. Nakobe Dean will start practicing soon, per Fangio, and that would give the Eagles the flexibility to be creative with how they use their LBs.When Fangio has used Baun as a blitzer/rusher, it has worked well.In an ideal world, you would rush your four DL and they would dominate, like what the Eagles got in the Super Bowl. Things are always that easy. Having a DC like Fangio is great because he can be creative with the resources he has and come up with good solutions.https://igglesblitz.com/2025/10/simple-offense/
