I think I had more fun when we were average. As expectations have risen and we've had success it feels like anything less than a blowout is unsatisfactory. Winning is great. obviously, but success has made following this team (and with this fan base) become more difficult than it needs to be. Yeah, titles are ace. But my goodness, some elements of this fanbase have become so entitled. Are we the late 2000s Pats now?

"I’d rather be a .500 team than a SB team” might be the worse take of all time. Holy crap.

Ive been a fan for a long time and Ive always held all our sports teams to high expectations when they merit it. The Eagles should be held to high expectations with the talent they have. Heavy is the crown as they say. But honestly, when are fans uncritical of their teams? I admit we do go completely nuts and are irrational at times, but thats part of being a fan. None of us truly know what its like on a professional level to be held to (sometimes), obnoxious standards, but thats fans - and not just here; its everywhere. I love the rational and irrational takes our fanbase puts out there, and I wouldnt want it any other way.

I had fun with a QB who can throw

A blowout isn't necessary every week, but it would be great if they could put together a solid straight 4 quarters...in the same game, consistently. That is IMO the one similarity with the 2023 team. The 2023 team had a bad defense, and was turning the ball over with terrible regularity, and they were coming away very fortunate in the 10-1 start in many games.

This team does have a much better defense, and they're protecting the ball fortunately. I don't think this team would have survived any of the first 4 games if they had a negative turnover differential.

The one similarity is both teams have had difficulties playing a solid 4 quarters. It was going to catch up to them at some point.

They didn't play well to start the season last year, we started 2-2 with 7 scoreless quarters in 4 games against a schedule nowhere near as demanding as this including a godawful defensive second half against Atlanta, got to week 4, there were stories in the press about this group of players not being happy and that group of players going to Sirianni about the Offensive scheme and from week 6 on we lost one more game.

2023 we were putting up 29.5pts a game through the first 4 games, we couldn't defend because we had no secondary (we gave up 300 yards passing to Mac Jones, 364 to Kirk Cousins and 290 to Sam Howell) but we were at least putting points on the board.

This year is closer to 2024 than it is 2023.

You could say there’s similarities to both. Last year, the bye came at what ended up being the opportune time, though it seemed way early when that schedule came out. That time saw the team approach Siri to run the offense thru Barkley and the O-Line. We have a mini bye coming to hopefully get some guys healthy, but this line, whether it’s health, or just not playing well for whatever reason is a shell of what it has been. If that doesn’t improve and soon, I don’t see how this turns around for the better. We aren’t going far if we can’t start running the ball again.

Neither line is playing particularly well right now, and as they always say ... winning starts up front. On offense I think it is mostly injury related. Lane had to leave the last couple of games before yesterday with injuries, Dickerson also dealing with multiple injuries, leaving early yesterday ... Toth is no Dickerson. And Steen is no Becton. I think that is the biggest culprit for the running game not getting going more.

On defense Carter is no where near the beast he looked the last couple of seasons. Guessing that is partly due to offenses scheming to contain him more. But he has also been dealing with a shoulder injury that may be limiting him a bit. I do wonder how much is related to just him smelling himself after all the hype he got the past 2 years. Hunt has not built on a solid 2nd half of his rookie year. Pretty big dropoff from Williams to what we are seeing from Ojomo so far. The group as a whole is underwhelming (hence giving up 4.7 yards/rush on the year so far).

This was the 1st game in quite a while where we reverted back to the Andy Reid formula where we abandoned the run to establish the pass and had our defense on the field for 10 minutes more than the offense. I appreciate winning more than passing.

This!

The OL issues I think can get sorted as long as we can get healthy. Obviously there’s some doubts on Steen but if everyone else can get back to near their best then we should be fine there.

The DL issues though I mean I’m not sure what we can do there? Trade for a stud DE? Obviously Nolan will come back but there were question marks about the DE position before the season started and those remain. Carter also is not the same dominant force right now and keeps getting freaking flagged.

Completely agree. I’ve felt for awhile, the issues on the line are the #1 issue, though I won’t argue if someone wants to haggle over the line, and Patullo being 1a and 1b in any order. The run defense and pass rush has definitely been underwhelming for sure also. If those were better, I think it could at least somewhat mask the issues at #2 CB.

As a fan who has lived and died with this team since 1980, this is a terrible take. Not trying to be an a**hole, just being honest.

Maybe I am just getting old. Maybe some of the spark has gone because we're winning a lot so it doesn't feel as exciting. Maybe I should stop reading social media, which is so negative all the time.

I just enjoy the games man and if we win, great, if we lose, well onto the next game. We won it last year, so I already knew coming into this season that I would just be riding the high from 2024. Yeah, I believe we can run it back and I expect the team to, but I won't be angry or super depressed if we don't. I think the only thing that would make me disgusted/upset is seeing either the Cowboys or Chiefs win it all 😂

I agree with this part though

The fanbase has changed and not so much for the better

I think a lot of the issue is that fans get frustrated because we have a legit chance of having a mini dynasty with the talent we have and it's being wasted due to some unfathomable issue with utilizing said talent on offense.

In this day and age it's really hard to have sustained success where you're legitimately challenging for a title in consecutive years. We can sit back and be like "at least we won it all last year"...but F that...we have a legit chance at a repeat and that's what I want.

But when you see an offense that features legitimate playmakers at RB, WR and TE but we can barely muster anything....I mean, wtf. It is and should be frustrating for fans. Although, some people are just flat out ridiculous with their takes.

I'm here for all the ups and downs besides the AJ Brown quitting on the team in the middle of a play.

They are an ugly 5-0 if he was a teammate on Sunday. He was a sad little boy instead.

I agree that it'd be nice to have a dynasty, but even KC's dynasty wasn't always pretty. I mean, no one was really thinking they'd win it all in 2023 when they went 11-6 and looked awful. They even looked pathetic last season yet somehow made it to their 3rd SB in a row. I think you just have to hope this team is winning enough games in the regular season and starts playing their best ball going into the playoffs and then hope for the best.

Nobody likes losing and the cold, plain truth is, we aren't losing games often. We tend to worry during games that are close and even when we win those, perhaps we don't appreciate it as much --- so it feels like a negative. Then when we do actually lose a game, people have a tendency to overreact. In a way it's a good thing. It's not fun to be used to losing. So ... yeah, Eagles fans just aren't good at losing these days.

I think that's all the OP was trying to say.

It is my opinion that the Eagles went away from their winning formula in an effort to prove they could win in a different way. It didn't work well. It is also my opinion that they are trying to force things to happen ---- things that aren't a requirement to win games. If we just stick to our identity, things will naturally work themselves out. It's just a matter of time before our explosive players explode in a game. Our 1st 5 opponents have played very tough against us and we haven't had very many close calls go our way. I'm still confident that once somebody has that breakout performance to spark the team a bit, the team vibe will improve. But we can't just go into a game with a plan to force a specific player to have that performance --- it has to happen naturally.

when you’re the super bowl champs and still in the repeat window, every game’s winnable by default.

were they gonna be undefeated? probably not.

do we expect better next time? absolutely.

that’s the tax on greatness—expectations never clock out.

I think there’s also the 2023 vs 2024 dynamic at play here. 2024 we started badly, were 3-2 at this point and then went on a tear. In 2023 we had a good record until late in the season but then we collapsed and it felt like that was coming all along. Right now because we are 4–1 but haven’t played very well so far it is giving 2023 vibes but could so easily become a 2024 vibe if we put in a couple of good performances.

Reviving this thread, and sure, probably the mockery that came with it. But I'm curious... anyone out there starting to understand what I meant?

Sure there is more pressure and scrutiny when you have the success that we have had lately. But Id rather have a potential contender year in and out. We haven't been very entertaining at times but we win. This run of success wont last forever we have been very fortunate. 3 SB appearances and 1 SB win in the past 6 seasons. We have been to half of the Super bowls in the last 6 years. That is nuts. I would take all the AJ nonsense, hurts, nonsense, and coaching nonsense over the mediocrity and day. The sixers languished there for along time. no thanks

This is the crap I mean. Nick Sirianni is one of the most winningest - goodness I hate that term - coaches in NFL History. He's broken all kinds of records. Takien us to two SBs, won one of them. He's historic, as his record stands. And we get this BS with hundreds of likes
