Before I knew it was Za’Darius, I saw a headline that just said "Eagles star surprisingly retires”. I was in shock thinking it was Brown or Barkley and quite relieved when i saw it was Za’Darius. Not that I wanted him to retire, he’s played pretty well at times but wouldn’t consider him a star player for the Eagles.

Smith was the Eagles sack leader. The rest of DEs are either sick, injured, or dysfunctional. Can the Eagles play defense with No pass rush and our Lame CBs??? According to several coaches...No they can not.

Any QB above mediocre will pick our D apart. And since our offense is ...NON existent in the second half of the games... IT is that stupid thing that the other teams Do that we have not discovered called ADJUSTMENTS at half time...Loosing Smith is a big thing.

EXACTLY. It's embarrassing that all of these people are basically putting the blame on the Eagles because this must be a result of how dysfunctional the locker room is. If there is something going on in this Smith's personal life that caused I will retract this but otherwise the dude quit on the team and is hanging them out to dry so F him. Dude was playing well too so it's not like he doesn't have it anymore, it just seems like he straight up quit.

I mean I know I’m not putting the blame on the eagles but I do think it’s a bad sign that he’s decided to up and retire. Sure maybe that’s a reflection on him quitting on the team but I do think he’s seen a sinking ship and he’s got out.

If this team wasn't hot garbage and was 10-0, no way he retires. He can be nice and say it's personal reasons, I've done it before. 'It's not you it's me'. But it's definitely you.

Did not see that coming. Thought he did OK in the games. With injuries of other DL, he would be getting more snaps. That may be too much for him to take.

Now is what FO will bring in or they just play with the cards on hand. Mid-season trades rarely worked out well. Street FAs are lower quality and mostly as back-up. The brain trust has to figure out some ways really fast to stop the SB team from last season falling apart.

Meh, he was a nice player but let’s not get carried away. He wasn’t even on an NFL roster until the season started and we have Nolan Smith coming back soon.

Nolan Smith had a torn tricep that he Re-injured. What makes anyone think that he can be a reliable contributor who can stay healthy and on the field? I am not questioning his skills , but his durability.

Also the last time I checked he was planning to return for GB game. A lot of things could happen between now and then. We need help NOW.

Options are few and far between without coughing up a big price........And they may have to do just that. Howie has a reputation thruout the league with GMs and now he's the one who is over a barrel. They can't go on with an underperforming defensive backfield and a defensive line that can't get sacks, especially the way the offense is sleeping.

They have an estimated 10 picks next year......they have trade bait.........with injuries and underperformance, this is when Howie has to be the most creative.

Fangio gets Nakobe Dean back soon......time to get creative with Campbell, Carter and Dejean.

The offense looks disinterested......may be time for a real shakeup......

I think there are far too many problem areas on the team that can be solved with the addition of a single player so I would hate to overpay for a short-term fix, even with the current state of the NFC where there does not seem to be any one team that appears leaps and bounds ahead of the others. I'd sooner hold on to those draft picks and re-stock with young talent in April and hopefully add a splash signing or 2 in free agency. I think that strategy gives us the best chance to have this team in serious contention for another championship over the next couple of years. Draft a corner early. Draft EDGE early. Sign another EDGE in FA. Etc.

Meh … we see this all the time, where an older player joins a new team then abruptly retires. They think they still have the desire to play … until they play … and then that desire fades quickly. Maybe it was because he was playing more than he thought he would be expected to. Maybe he just didn’t take to Vic’s coaching style. Maybe he just didn’t see the 2025 Eagles going anywhere (maybe he is a ring chaser). The possibilities are endless. Whatever. He was just a bandaid anyway. Hopefully we address EDGE in a big way next offseason … a relatively high draft pick and a splash in free agency.
