BG Considering Coming Out of Retirement to Join Eagles (UPDATE: Officially Signed on 10/21/25)

Well, BG coming back wasn't even in the same room as my bingo card, let alone on it.

BG coming back just highlights how much the young guns were overestimated for this season.

I think it more reflects that the Vet presence they signed retired suddenly mid season leaving them short handed, and BG is a guy who doesn't have to be taught the scheme mid season.

But we know how Sirianni basically would politic for older guys to hang around like he did for Kelce. I think they thought those guys were ready and they’re just not. Remember that veteran presence was himself was just recently added just before the season.

Yeah but if Smith hadn't retired, BG would've remained retired, BG is just an easy plug in high character guy to round out the bottom of the rotation, rather than kicking tyres on other free agents and hoping they fit chemistry wise.

I d don't mind him coming back at all, you do wonder how effectively he'll actually be on the field though.

Wonder if they've approached kelce yet?

BG was really good last year. I think he can still produce with limited snaps. The worry for both team and BG has to be whether he can stay healthy, but hopefully they have both considered the risk.

BG clearly wants to come back and hopefully he will provide a jolt for the team.

I wonder if bringing BG back is a sign that the trade market for Edge players isn't looking good...at least not for a deal he wants to do. Or...he is trying to find a better CB2 option and can't make 2 substantial trade deadline deals.

With Nolan coming back soon, jihad lining up on edge, and BG back, I see Howie trading for a competent CB2 and maybe oline help.

I love a BG as a player but if this is Howie "fixing" the passrush then the defense is screwed

He's coming back for leadership., which is need at this point. His presence on the sidelines and on the field will help for sure. I'm all for it. Welcome back BG!

The reasons it's not a total desperation move and why it won't tarnish BG's legacy:

  • BG planned on making last season his final season. Then he missed most of it with injury. Came back to play at the end, and felt he still had more in the tank

  • He wrestled with the retirement decision and was second guessing himself, he even said so on the New Heights podcast that he thought about returning for another season

  • Howie reached out to him at the beginning of the season - not like it was last week - to see if he had interest

  • He's supposedly kept himself in shape and been working out for a month (we'll see how he looks)

  • Howie signed Za'Darius Smith off the street so they already tried to address the needs that way

  • BG may not play many snaps, and one part-time season won't tarnish a long career.

  • If nothing else, he brings experience to the meeting room, helping review film and prepare, and a vocal leader to lift up and bring energy to the team

  • Any positive plays he may make will be welcomed, obviously you just don't want a liability out there but Fangio won't let that happen

Worst case scenario is that he can't play well anymore, gets injured again and gave it a try and it didn't work. He will at least have brought veteran presence to the defensive meeting room and practice, and for his own sake can say he gave it another try to see what was left in the tank.

Now, if BG plays really well and then Nolan Smith comes back and the unit is playing well, maybe they don't need to trade for another player but I'd still like to see them try. Get Chubb.

I'm not against it. But we need much more help than that.

If he's more in the tank. We certainly need the help. Plus his locker room presence cannot be under stated.

Kelce has lost a lot of weight, which is typical for former lineman once they retire. I think he said he's down to 270 on his podcast. He's not coming back.

They need a positive locker room presence. Also Jalen Carter needs a baby sitter.

A hungry healthy BG! Let's GO!

I love BG, but Howie has screwed things up soooo bad this year, that he has to grab an old man out of his peaceful retirement......

Reports are that he has been training for a while to come back waiting for the opportunity. Hopefully he can provide some good snaps. He was not a scrub last year but is up there in age and the birds are thin at the position.
