I get Howie's in season record isn't stellar, but Metchie wasn't going to do ish for us, may as well shuffle the pack. That's why I am content.

Yeah it’s just another option. Having options is good given this costed us very little. Met how was WR #5 and the pick swap is 2027 and likely to amount 15 spots or so at the very bottom of the draft

Meh, not so sure about that.

I think this is mostly just turnover of bottom of the roster pieces to add depth in the defensive backfield. Maybe Darius Cooper coming off IR made Metchie expendable.

You never realize how much you need a guy like this until somebody goes down during a game. Good teams have good depth. Parry Nickerson saw some time a couple of weeks ago. There's room in the defensive backfield for Carter. Let's see how he's doing come December after he's had some time working in Fangio's system. I'm sure the mad scientist has uses for this guy that none of us even dreamed of.

Howie solved a problem today and can still sign AS Jr if needed.

Absolutely!. Most people don't understand that Carter is not a pure CB, and instead could be here to play safety. It makes sense considering how much Vick criticized Sydney. So there is definitely potential for AS to be an Eagle.

I'd be lying if I said I knew much about Michael Carter II but considering we traded a WR who never saw the field and a 6th round pick for a proven nickel CB...I'll take it

They can likely find a role for him. That earlier comment was aimed more at those thinking this trade was meant to address the CB2 situation (unless it means moving DeJean from slot to outside corner permanently as some seem to be speculating ... but I sure hope that isn't the case).

This move surely was influenced by Joe Douglas. I just hope they consulted with Fangio as well. As we saw with Bryce Huff...sometimes there is disconnect between Howie and the coaching staff. That said, this move is low risk as we didn't give up much.

Carter is supposedly a good culture kind of person and played well his first few years before having a down year last year and this season so far. He's strictly slot, but at least it gives Fangio the option of having DeJean outside at times...assuming Carter regains form to at least be a serviceable slot.

This is about the only move for a CB that could be made. There were no realistic "CB2” targets. Cooper has been playing on the outside for significant snaps the past few weeks and my guess is that he has shown the coaches enough to be moved to the "CB2” role (even though there really isn’t such a position in a Fangio defense).

He's a decent nickle CB and can probably play some safety as well. He's basically the non-crazy version of CJGJ.

Mast fans would want to keep DeJean at inside CB, that includes the OC. But he also cross-trained him as outside CB. DeJean will do well no matter what position he plays. It is a matter of needs and who is available at any given time.

LOL. Great trade. I'll give you that......one.

The rest have pretty much stunk. Not Howies fault though. As it's difficult to bring in impact players during the mid NFL season. I love that Howie tries though. 😀

I don't think either were trades but adding Suh and Joseph really paid off for the D-line in 2022.

Feels like this move like many so far this season feels like Howie is throwing everything he can at this wall to see what sticks.

Ajayi is the only one that comes to mind that was worth the cost of investment. All others (Byard, Quinn, Avery, Tate ... ) wasn't worth giving up what we did.

This is true, but most of those guys were aging vets on their last legs (Tate was a disappointment overall, but he did make some big plays in that Bears playoff game, including the game-winning TD. Byard might've worked out better if the defensive coordinators weren't such a cluster). Carter's a guy that's still in his mid-20s that was a pro bowl caliber slot guy as recently as two years ago on some great defenses before falling out of favor when the coaching change was made. If there was an organization to screw something up, it would be the Jets.
