Eagles midterm grades by position at the bye week in 2025

Here's a look at Eagles midterm grades by position at the halfway point of the 2025 season.

By Dave Zangaro • Published October 29, 2025

There were definitely some ups and downs for the Eagles in the first half of their 2025 season but they enter their Week 9 bye week with a 6-2 record atop the NFC East.

They are exactly where they need to be.

Of course, some of the position grades throughout the first couple months of the season reflect some of those ups and downs. Here’s a look at the Eagles’ midterm averages after the first eight games of the season:

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts: 70.2%, 1,677 yards, 15 TDs, 1 INT, passer rating 114.4; 58 rushing attempts, 207 yards, 5 TDs

It’s no surprise that in the Eagles’ two losses of the season, Hurts didn’t play very well. But when you take a step back and look at his season so far, he has played very clean and efficient football. He’s completing over 70% of his passes with a 15-1 TD-to-INT ratio. The highest passer rating Hurts has ever had in a season came in 2024 when he put up a 103.7, so he’s well above that through eight games. And he followed his worst games of the season with two stellar performances against the Vikings and Giants. If Hurts keeps this up, he is going to put himself in the MVP race.

Week 1 (vs. DAL): A
Week 2 (at KC): B
Week 3 (vs. LAR): A-
Week 4 (at TB): B-
Week 5 (vs. DEN): C+
Week 6 (at NYG): D
Week 7 (at MIN): A+
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A

Midterm grade: B (3.13)

Running back

Saquon Barkley: 127 attempts, 519 yards (4.1), 4 TDs

Week 1 (vs. DAL): B
Week 2 (at KC): B
Week 3 (vs. LAR): C+
Week 4 (at TB): C
Week 5 (vs. DEN): B-
Week 6 (at NYG): C
Week 7 (at MIN): B
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A+

Throughout the first seven weeks of the season, it was just tough sledding for Barkley. It was really tough to grade him in some of those games because he wasn’t producing but it was pretty obvious the holes weren’t there for him like they had been in the past. But we saw a breakout 150-yard performance in Week 8 and some hope that the run game can get back on track for good. And Tank Bigsby also put up 104 yards in the win over the Giants so the Eagles have a new No. 2 behind him for the second half of the season.

Midterm grade: B- (2.79)

Receiver

DeVonta Smith: 44 catches on 55 targets, 588 yards, 2 TDs

Week 1 (vs. DAL): C+
Week 2 (at KC): B
Week 3 (vs. LAR): A-
Week 4 (at TB): C
Week 5 (vs. DEN): B+
Week 6 (at NYG): B-
Week 7 (at MIN): A+

Week 8 (vs. NYG): A-

The biggest question about the Eagles at the bye week is the status of A.J. Brown, who missed Week 8 with a hamstring injury. Brown has been the subject of trade rumors but it really doesn’t make sense to trade him, not while the Eagles are in contention to win another Super Bowl. Brown has had a quiet season so far with 29 caches for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns in 7 games but is still one of the best receivers in the NFL. This could be the big breakout season for Smith, who is on pace for over 1,200 yards. The Eagles third WR this season is Jahan Dotson, who has 8 catches for 151 yards and a touchdown at the break.

Midterm grade: B (3.13)

Tight end

Dallas Goedert: 30 catches on 39 targets, 289 yards, 7 TDs

Week 1 (vs. DAL): B
Week 2 (at KC): C+
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B
Week 4 (at TB): B+
Week 5 (vs. DEN): B-
Week 6 (at NYG): B+
Week 7 (at MIN): B
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A

Remember when the Eagles almost didn’t bring back Goedert for the 2025 season? Phew. Good thing they figured that out. Because Goedert has been a key cog for the offense this season. He missed one game (Kansas City) and it’s the worst grade we gave the tight end group so far this season. Goedert already has a career-high seven touchdown catches, surpassing his previous career-high of five. Grant Calcaterra has 4 catches for 40 yards, Kylen Granson has 2 for 6 and Cameron Latu has found a role as a fullback and special teamer.

Midterm grade: B (3.08)

Offensive line

Week 1 (vs. DAL): B
Week 2 (at KC): B
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B-
Week 4 (at TB): C
Week 5 (vs. DEN): C
Week 6 (at NYG): C-
Week 7 (at MIN): B
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A

The Eagles’ offensive line hasn’t been as dominant this season as it was in 2024 but they put together an incredible performance in Week 8 to survive getting a C at the halfway point. The line blocked for a 276-yard day on the ground. Injuries have hampered Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens in the first half of the season so the hope has to be that the bye week will allow those guys to heal, especially Jurgens, who missed Week 8 with a knee injury.

Midterm grade: B- (2.68)

Defensive line

Moro Ojomo: 4 sacks, 6 QB hits, 20 tackles

Week 1 (vs. DAL): B+
Week 2 (at KC): A-
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B
Week 4 (at TB): B
Week 5 (vs. DEN): C+
Week 6 (at NYG): D
Week 7 (at MIN): B+
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A

The Eagles have had some ups and downs with their defensive line so far this season in terms of stopping the run and rushing the passer. We’ll see if they add another edge rusher to the mix but Jalyx Hunt is coming on strong and the Eagles are expected to get Brandon Graham and Nolan Smith back after the bye week. On the interior, Ojomo leads the team in sacks with 4 and Jordan Davis is right behind him with 3. Jalen Carter has been limited to just 6 games and hampered by injuries but if he starts to round into form in the second half, it would go a long way.

Midterm grade: B (2.95)

Linebacker

Zack Baun: 64 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 TFLs, 1 INT, 5 PBUs, 1 FF

Week 1 (vs. DAL): A+
Week 2 (at KC): B+
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B+
Week 4 (at TB): A-
Week 5 (vs. DEN): B
Week 6 (at NYG): D
Week 7 (at MIN): B+
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A-

If you thought Baun’s All-Pro season in 2024 was a fluke, it wasn’t. He is again filling up the stat sheet and playing at an elite level again in 2024. For most of the first half of the season, his running mate was rookie Jihaad Campbell but Nakobe Dean has returned on defense the last two weeks and is playing really well as Campbell gets more snaps on the edge. It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles rotate those three moving forward, but it’s not a surprise to see this is the highest-graded unit on the team through eight weeks.

Midterm grade: B+ (3.20)

Secondary

Quinyon Mitchell: 48 targets, 23 caches, 287 yards, 1 TD, 8 PBUs

Week 1 (vs. DAL): C+
Week 2 (at KC): B+
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B
Week 4 (at TB): B+
Week 5 (vs. DEN): C
Week 6 (at NYG): D
Week 7 (at MIN): B
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A

At cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean have both played at high levels but that CB2 spot has been a trouble area. While Kelee Ringo played well in Week 8, the Eagles have flipped back and forth between him and Adoree’ Jackson for that spot all season. Perhaps Jakorian Bennett will come back from IR and get in the mix after the bye, or maybe Howie Roseman will pull off another trade. At safety, rookie Drew Mukuba has made some really big plays and has given up some really big plays. Vic Fangio called Mukuba’s season "uneven” but there’s hope that consistency will come with reps.

Midterm grade: B- (2.74)

Special teams

Jake Elliott: 7/9 on FGs, 3/4 on 50+

Week 1 (vs. DAL): A
Week 2 (at KC): A
Week 3 (vs. LAR): A-
Week 4 (at TB): A-
Week 5 (vs. DEN): B-
Week 6 (at NYG): D
Week 7 (at MIN): B-
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A-

The Eagles got some big field goal blocks earlier in the season, including the Jordan Davis play to win the Rams game with a block and a 61-yard scoop-and-score. Elliott’s two misses have come in the last two weeks but he has been pretty solid. Braden Mann is averaging a career-high 52.4 yards per punt and 42.1 net yards per punt with 7 punts inside the 20. The Eagles really struggled returning kicks but got a nice boost from Will Shipley and Xavier Gipson the last couple of weeks.

Midterm grade: B+ (3.19)

Coaching

Record: 6-2

Week 1 (vs. DAL): B
Week 2 (at KC): B-
Week 3 (vs. LAR): B
Week 4 (at TB): C+}
Week 5 (vs. DEN): C
Week 6 (at NYG): F
Week 7 (at MIN): B+
Week 8 (vs. NYG): A+

The Eagles missed out on some style points in the first half of the season but they’re 6-2 and have been 6-2 or better in each of the last four seasons. Nick Sirianni just wins a ton of football games and with the win in Week 8 is already tied with Dick Vermeil for third all-time in franchise history. Plenty of the bad grades above were a product of a wonky offense that lacked creativity and vision but Kevin Patullo had his best game of the season against the Giants before the bye. It was encouraging as we look ahead to the second half of the season.

Midterm grade: B- (2.58)
