Eagles Trade for EDGE Jaelen Phillips (Dolphins)

If he helps us win another ring it will be well worth the late 3rd we gave up for him.

A 3rd rounder definitely feels a little high, but I would not have batted an eye at all at a 4th rounder, and edge rushers don't grow on trees ... if you are going to pick one up you're gonna have to feel a little pain. So, yeah, it's a bit of a risk, but we're trying to win a championship so I am OK with it.

Realistically, he should supplant Uche as the edge opposite Hunt, but when Nolan returns, I think he would be the next guy up in the rotation.

Whilst I don’t disagree that he will rotate in and out and ultimately "back up” Hunt and Smith I’m not sure that’s a ringing endorsement? Don’t get me wrong Hunt has improved and hasn’t been bad this year but he’s not been great either? We needed a real upgrade at DE and whilst we’ve added quality rotation I’m not sure we’ve added what we necessarily needed if he’s to back up?

Saw the whole Cowboy game, wow Josh Sweat is playing on another level... Damn wish we still had him :(

Well it’s not the other name that was flying around, but worth a shot. A 3rd round pick for a rental seems very steep though. They had to do it to keep that money off the books. With that being the case do the Eagles get a comp pick if he walks at the end of the year for a big contract?

Phillips is better than Hunt and stouter against the run. I expect him to start with Smith on the other side if everyone is happy.

He’s a good DE. The risk is the injuries, but if he stays healthy, should give us 3-4 sacks minimum and help against the run. He was great under Fangio so there is upside there as well.

Yes he potentially counts towards compensatory picks in 2027 if he leaves.

Howie strikes again. Low risk high reward guys coming in with chips on their shoulders. No doubt the team got better.

Seems like they are "renting" him with a chance to keep him?

Comp pick value is huge. Even if he walks at the end of the season, they could get a comp pick that is close to the value they gave the Dolphins.

Yeah, this was a no-brainer. If he plays well, he's very young and you'd love to keep him at the end of the season. If he's so good that he leaves in FA, the Eagles get their 3rd back one year later. If he's not that good, he'll end up giving a 5th in return anyway and the cap implications are minimal.

Just more greatness by Howie. Potentially getting this guy for basically nothing, but a few different spots in a draft for a few months. If he pans out and gets extended it only costs a late 3rd, but if he bolts we could get a decent comp pick. Nice.

His sack celebration is still the coolest IMO. My sons were both doing it.

Sweaty was awesome. I wish he was still an Eagle, but I'm glad he won a SB and a got big payday.

I don't want him to get all of his production in just one game! Space those sacks out! Especially against the Offenses of the Lions, Cowpigs, and Chargers.

I swear to God if I see Dakota Prescott throw for like 275 - 350 yards and 3 TDs against our D in the next Cowsluts game, I will strangle someone!

Dont care if he throws for 6 TDs as long as we win.

He was damn near unblockable last game against the Cowboys, I think he is sitting on something like 8 sacks for the year. ☹️

Like, duh??!!

🙃🙃

I thought that maybe we could have kept/paid either Sweat or Milt Williams. One, but not both. A shame that we lost both. Oh well, they did help our Eagles win a second SB! LIILII

LOL Well if he throws for 6 TDs, we ain't winning that game. 🤪

The only reason Howie was able to get Phillips for a 3rd round pick is because his last 2 seasons were ended by injuries. He’s probably still not all the way back to normal from both the Achilles or the ACL.

Best case scenario is he’s healthy enough to be a reliable rotational player to finish this season. Then we sign him for a reasonable 2-3 year deal, or even a 1 year prove it deal, and then we get a couple years worth of his 1st round talent again.
