It's definitely different. Overall, I liked it

I haven't read the novellas, so no idea on the story or their place in time in the overall story. It's clear whose stock Egg comes from, but overall, enjoyable enough. I have sympathy for Dunc going to castles, etc - not made for tall people.

It's got heart, something direly lacking from HoD.

Nice intro but I was expecting them to give him some type of boots or something to help with the height. Duncan is 6'11 and the actor is 6'5. Wouldn't really have been difficult to get him some boots to help

It was an actual novel they could draw from whereas HotD was not. The book is really good.

1st episode was real good.

Coulda done without the crap, enough of that but, by the end of the episode I was loving it.

I think it's actually meant to serve a storytelling purpose.... Basically we're seeing Dunk's version of Ser Arlan. Dunk both seems to exaggerate how good of a knight he was and also Ser Arlan wasn't honest when telling stories to Dunk (7 broken lances when it was actually 4.)

Basically, Ser Arlan was like the quintessential knight to Dunk but nobody else really remembers him.

Also, I think it's alluding to the fact that Dunk's overall story isn't exactly true..... It look like Ser Arlan had a quick death, so there's probably some doubt as to whether Dunk was actually even made a knight by him.

I've liked it. They're strongly hinting at the reveal

House of the Dragon was from the 2nd half of the Fire and Blood book

But its more of a history book, not really a novel with a story. They had to do a lot of writing about the characters and personalities. With this one its all in the source material.

HotD also didn't give us Mushroom, in part for fear he'd end up being seen as another Tyrion. But a character that worked in the anthology.

Meh. When everybody is in on the reveal, you have to subvert the moment and that's supposed to be a GRRM calling card. This just felt like it went from point A to B. Have we been chasing the dragon on Westeros since season 4?

Very enjoyable again.

And because of the Super Bowl, the next episode comes out on Friday and not Sunday.
