We are basically at Defcon 3 status, and moving towards Defcon 2 on the season. We all should be able to see it. This team is going nowhere unless the offense starts playing better...and playing consistently better. This is not an overreaction post based on the Dallas loss. Just a matter-of-fact, rational observation of what I'm seeing in this team every week.

I do still believe this team can at least compete with any team in the NFC besides the Rams (we'd get smoked if we played the Rams right now). That said, every game for the rest of the year could still be a struggle.

What moves should we make to try and salvage things before it's too late?

Here's where I'd start....

Offense:
Bench Jurgens and start Toth for at least the next few games. Jurgens just isn't healthy and it shows.

Give Tank Bigsby at least around 10 touches per game. He just looks better than Barkley right now and his running style is better for what we need at this time.

Elevate Cameron Latu to TE2 over Calcaterra for blocking purposes.

Activate Willie Lampkin and lets see what he can do as far as the "heavy OL" set. The guy is supposedly pretty good and athletic, just small by NFL OL standards. He could add a little something in run blocking out of that heavy set.

Stop with the conservative mindset and let Hurts rip it. Bring back more RPO's, get Hurts running a little bit more. Be aggressive.

Defense:
If not for the injuries to the secondary against Dallas, I wouldn't be putting anything here. But damn, we lost Mukuba and Blankenship's status is unknown (looked like he was in pain with his injury). And Adoree is hurt again. The secondary could feasibly be down 3 starters this week.

Sign Justin Simmons time with Mukuba heading to IR?
Who's playing Safety this week if Blankenship is also out? DeJean and Sydney Brown? Carter to the slot and Ringo or Bennett at CB if Jackson is out?

What say you?

You can't fix it. They are unable to fix it. The team is cooked. Its a repeat of 2023. It was a slow moving train wreck the coaching staff couldn't fix and we all know they would lose to the giants and then the bucs in the playoffs.

I also don't think the defense is good enough to carry the offense. Half the secondary is incompetent and a liability even without injuries

The only way to fix it is in the offseason and it starts with people being fired. Either way both Hurts, and Siri can't be on this team next year. One of them has to go. We have seen the same reoccurring issues over the last 3 years and they are the 2 constants on this team.

I hear you, but you can't just discount the fact that the Sirianni/Hurts combo has made 2 of the last 3 Super Bowls and won 1. That said, there is some credence to the thought of that, as oddly as it sounds when considering their recent success.

I wouldn't give up on this year though, that would be ridiculous. Besides the Rams, the Eagles can compete with any team in the NFC.

Why does everyone say we can't compete with the Rams we have beaten them every year for like the last 10 yrs regular season and post season including this season

We beat the Rams earlier this year because we blocked 2 FGs while also holding the Rams' offense to FGs in the RZ. The blocked FGs were great plays, but obviously not the kind of plays you can count on. Rams are playing the best team football in the NFC right now and probably the best in the NFL right now. Just seeing the way the Rams and the Eagles are playing, it's easy to see they are the better team.

First fix would be the O line but other than swapping toth in for jurgens im not sure what else can be done. Dickerson has been awful as well, hes playing high and slow, he has zero explosion left as injuries took it all. Mailata has been dinged as well and after PFF had him ranked the top player in all of football last year hes fallen way off, Steen is Steen which isnt a problem if the other 4 guys werent hurt or sucking, steen being the eagles 2nd best OL behind Lane is a failure by the other 3.

I agree Tank needs more carries, barkleys vision this year has been almost as bad as the blocking in front of him, tank isnt looking for a home run every carry, hes just grinding

Id go more 11 and less 12, and as you say if 12 put latu in to block instead of Cal or Granson.

Eagles have been really good in empty sets this year yet only run it like twice a game, more empty, more spread, less heavy sets with guys that cant block

Give AJ and Smitty 10 targets each a game.

On D cross your fingers that they can survive 🤞

Yeah, going 11 personnel more often is a good idea as well.

They just can't keep doing the same things over and over again...Steve Wonder can see that it ain't working. If Sirianni truly learned anything from the 2023 season, he needs to show it.

I know Patullo gets a lot if heat as he should but this is Nicks offense, Patullo is just in charge of calling it

Howie and Lurie should have never let nick hire from within, they should have done an extensive outside search and brought in a guy that had no football relation to Nick what so ever.

If eagles offense blows against the bears and they lose the game then maybe patullo gets demoted to sideline spectator, id turn the play calling over to Loefler who actually has play calling experience. Im not sure how much itll fix with how bad the O line is but it cant get worse right? Right?

Given that they just won the SB and most of the coaches around the league were already snapped up, I imagine that it was part of Sirianni's "reward" to "allow" him to promote KP. But we are again seeing the warts of an internal promotion under Sirianni. If no adjustments are made and the season ends without a championship game appearance and without any notable improvement on offense from where they are now, it's gonna be a real interesting offseason.

I have to imagine that if they crap the bed against the Bears, there will be pressure applied to Sirianni (from Howie/Lurie) to do "something". At the same time, it's never really a good thing to make in-season changes to coordinators unless it involves the HC relinquishing duties in some way. In this regard, they should just stick with KP but Sirianni should start relinquishing his overarching conservative style and just say "full steam ahead", let 'em rip, and let the cards fall where they may.

Siri and Patullo have to adapt and face that this is NOT the team we were last year, and even with slight improvements we won't be the team we were last year. Find ways to help the O-Line out, hold players accountable. We have to help our defense out, they cannot play games where they are on the field this long. We know Vic can maneuver the defense to keep up.

This is a huge rut for Siri, Patullo and even Stoutland to get out of.......figure this out little by little.....we have to show progression or else the players are soon going to fold.

Stop with the 12 and 13 personnel

Give Tank more touches. Put Tank and Barkley on the field a few times

Sit anyone not 100% on Oline

Target Dotson more

Quit running straight into the teeth of the defense

Tell Hurts to not worry about picks and let loose more. Trust his receivers to make plays

I never understand why they don't involve Dotson more. Then again, there's a lot I don't understand when it comes to Sirianni's offense.

Cause the Eagles were typically the better team. The Rams by a large margin are the better team right now. Eagles likely won't have the #1 seed as well and will play the Rams ( if they even make it that far) in their dome.

The offense is a complete joke at this point and won't be able to keep up with the Rams.

Hurts is a one read QB. Just look at 3&2 staring down AJ Brown when he had Goedert wide open

Do you think we move AJ, Hurts will feel less pressure to get him his stats and will overall play better as a result?

Same issues existed even last year. Elite defense and Run game carried the team, .We seen what happens when this team doesn't have that to lean on. A dysfunctional mess cause siri is clueless about the offense, and Hurts is not good enough to rely on in the passing game.

Are you currently employed? Because I would hire you in like 2 seconds to be an Assistant on the Iggles Coaching Staff!!

It's always absolutely ridiculous to me that us fans can see, and point out certain aspects of what's wrong. But yet the Coaches seem to just do the same thing over and over and over.

Oh well. At least my wife is rich and I have no bills to pay!! 🤓

The fact that Hurts "feels pressured" to get it to one the top WR's in the league is hilarious. Imagine if we said this to about about Puka Nacua, Ja'marr chase, etc. The idea that we are "forced" to throw it to a top WR is wild and speaks more about Hurts and the inept coaching.

On O, is there a Jet Sweep, a Reverse, a TE screen in the play book, anywhere? A post/corner route? A corner/post route??

Or, they do have these plays, but, said plays cannot be called or ran, because the O Line stinks so bad?

🧐

didn't we have a smitty jet sweep on sunday?

Your topic says How To Fix This Team. Too late to bring in new players so they only way is to relieve Patullo (fire, reassign) and have another staff member like Loeffler be the OC. He can themnimplement changes such as getting Bigsby more carries, eliminate that absurd 3 TE package, more crossing routes, etc, etc. What gets me is Patullo know he has to be fighting not for just this job but also his career because if you fail as an OC with this team then who would what other NFL team would want to hire you. The new OC needs to have the authority from Lurie/Howie to implement what he wants and not to have his hands tied behind his back by Siri.

Johnson failed and got another job... Not as an oc but still was hired pretty quickly

I agree with most of what the OP posted. I also thought sitting Jurgens would be the right move. He clearly isn't 100%. I'd rather him rest to get healthy ... he'd be much more valuable to us being closer to 100% come playoff time than what we are seeing now.

Also, pull some of the plays out of Moore's playbook that we were running last year. He may not be here but that doesn't mean we can't continue to use some of those plays.

Oh and regarding Blank:

IMG_9704.jpeg

Take a baseball bat to Jalen Hurts knee so we can allow the coaches to take the limiter off this ridiculous constricted offense.
