I like the "don't care" vibe they're going with for her

That with her powers makes it interesting IMO

not only am i pondering how steve austin did not destroy his spine when lifting with his bionic arm & legs but now i'll be up with ''how did she pierce her ears ??*''

*better come up in pitch meeting episode

Dammit, he stole my post. I was going to ask the question, didn't that trailer feel a little GOTG derivative?

Sigh 😆

A nihilistic YA girl superhero? Why has no one thought of that before? Whatever.

It looks fun which is more than I can say about 90% of the SH slop out there.

I thought a flash recent movie was ok. But I did like that take on Supergirl.

Woman of Tomorrow explains this 100 percent. She is basically an angry, depressed, alcoholic young woman. She remembers her planet being destroyed, while Clark was a newborn. Its probably the best comic storyline I came think of.

To be honest, anyone who wants or expects a modern Supergirl story to just be "girl Superman" is as simple as it gets IMO.

Had Superman been awesome and… acted like Superman, then the juxtaposition of her starting out as a depressed train wreck might have been an interesting concept.

What would have made the recent Superman awesome, and how should he have acted? I'm not arguing one way or another, I never read the comics just saw the older movies.

I thought the movie played out like the Karate Kid. He just got his ass kicked over and over and needed to be saved, at times, by almost every other lead character. He even got beat up by a clone on a time delay, which is ridiculous.

Plus, he lost his temper on multiple occasions.

Just from the movies and pop culture, I always thought of Superman as the archetype of strength, virtue, and kindness. I didn’t think this new Superman exhibited near perfection in any area.

Had he been the standard for greatness, then it would have been more interesting for her to be more depressed/cynical/wise, IMO.

Gotcha. I know that was a criticism of Man of Steel, that he got angry when he screamed and killed Zod. I actually like that scene because that was him struggling ethically with it. Doing what he knew needed to be done but hating having to do it.

I haven't thought much about the new Superman to dive into it like that. But I did see a behind the scenes clip where James Gunn was explaining to David Corenswet (had to look that name up lol) about his speech to Lex at the end. I saw a lot of fans on social media didn't like the speech because Superman isn't human and doesn't have weaknesses other than kryptonite. I wonder if they were trying to depower Superman to set up the universe with other heroes. In Justice League they sidelined him and then he shows up and basically handles everything himself. There wasn't much for Batman or others to do when Superman can just do everything.

There's also him getting defeated and getting weak, as you said he needed help from Krypto, the robots, the other heroes in the movie. Plus if he can be cloned he's not that special. I also didn't like that his parents message said he's sent there to destroy, rule, form a harem, whatever. I get they're trying to do a different take on a character we've seen before but it was a bit much.

You’re definitely right about the OP nature of Superman being a problem for writers. I just thought what they did in the newest movie was a poor choice. Surprisingly, Batman vs. Superman did the best job of tackling the issue, IMO.

I think they did a good job with the Supergirl casting. I’m looking forward to this movie and have zero interest in what Marvel is doing these days (unless it’s Spider-Man).

Agree. The actress was in House of Dragons as the younger version, who I liked her performance and didn't like jumping to an older actress. So will be good to see what she does with the Supergirl role.
