Gainwell Article

The link above speaks about how well Gainwell is playing for the Steelers, something that I also took note of.

I'm seeing serious problems here, Gainwell came with the reputation of being an excellent receiver out of the backfield and that's exactly how the Steelers are using him, oddly enough, the Eagles rarely used him in that capacity.....go figure.

The Eagles don't know who to keep on the roster and who to play when they are on the roster. A perfect example is Britt Covey, as I mentioned before he got cut, he should be the 3rd WR, we've always heard how he's always wide open with great separation in camp......so the Eagles decide to cut him.......WHY??, for crying out loud, look at his punt returns after returning to the Eagles. Dude is a 3rd down converter all day long, he'll be just like in camp......Wide Open With Great Separation.

I'm sorry, the offense minds in Philadelphia are horrible, I could go on concerning who's not on the roster and who should be playing that's on the roster.

Love me some covey and I was confused when they got rid of him, glad they had the sense to bring him back as a PR, and I think since the offense never throws to the third WR anyway covey wouldnt be the worst choice.

I think they like Dotson at that 3rd spot because he can play outside if AJ or smitty go down and covey isnt outside guy.

Same with cooper who can play on the outside

Covey though has played well at PR so thats goid!

Covey would be he man if they gave him a chance, dude is uncoverable, he's too shifty for LB's CB's and safties

Dotson can't get separation worth a damn, honestly, he shouldn't be on the roster.

They weren't gonna pay Gainwell after paying Barkley, simple as that. Maybe they could have used him better/differently, but it's not as if they didn't use him. And he's now with an OC who loves to ruin FF players' days by utilizing 2 RBs and multiple TEs equally, so he's getting more playing time.

I suppose they chose Gipson over Covey in an effort to have "explosiveness" on returns, but it was quite clear most of the season Gipson just wasn't it. And as far as him or Dotson as WR3....it's hard to say. Dotson makes plays when the ball comes his way....the coaches or Hurts (both) just never utilize our WR3 and it's maddening. And there's the whole politics thing...we traded a decent draft comp for Dotson. Shouldn't matter, but sometimes it really does.

If we benched Dotson right now and put Covey in, he'd have 3 catches over the next 3 games....just like Dotson.

Like I said I think they value dotson on the roster because he can also play on the outside and dotson is going to get the benefit of the doubt because he was a 1st rounder and howie traded for him, where as cover is udfa older player.

But yeah if they lined him up in the slot I wouldnt be mad but its not like jalen would throw him the ball, the slot WR in this offense unless its AJ or Smitty is the 5th read every play so...

Always liked Gainwell, but we're more than set at the position with Barkley, Bigsby, and Shipley. Hell, I thought AJ Dillon was playing OK barring his one fumble that pretty much sealed one of our losses. We should, but we don't really use our depth at RB anyway.

Good to see Gainwell playing well and getting notice. Another ex-Eagle RB Sweat is also doing well.

Re Covey, he is primarily a RS. As WR3 in this team, blocking is the main thing. Dotsons or anyone else will not get a lot of looks. If Covey cracks the rotation, he too will be blocking and not seeing many passes coming to him.

Covey will probably get some work if we get to rest the starters for at least 1 game before the playoffs.

Gainwell was our RB2 and was used primarily in the 2-minute packages and clear passing situations. He was our best RB at pass blocking which is why he didn't always see targets as a pass catcher.

So out of all the moves, this one hurts the most? Becton and Rodgers (imo) imo were the 2 biggest mistakes. Howie can't be 100%, but there is not 1 manager in the league I'd trust more and that's not bias talking.

With that said, its gonna be really interesting whats gonna happen in the next few years paying our defensive players (starters)... Can't let Dean walk the way he's balled out (including last year until the injury). This D is night and day with him.

Seriously, we're worried about losing Gainwell now? Gainwell was given EVERY opportunity on the planet to be the starting RB early on in 2023 and didn't take advantage of it. He is definitely having a nice season in Pittsburgh but he's a borderline JAG backup RB. Next!!

Dotson is fine at the slot. WR3 is irrelevant anyway on this team since QB can only get through one read.

Are you serious??

He has a boat load of catches for a lousy 5.8 yards per catch his lowest of his career. He has been more efficient on the ground than he has been his entire career here though.

Yes unfortunately

I don't usually disagree with people's opinions on things and very rarely say anything but I totally disagree with that one, sir. Dotson was a number one draft pick for a reason....

SMH that's just insane to me....I love Smitty....my favorite wr before him was Desean Jackson but Smith eclipses him with his insane body control and durability....that man is as good a receiver as I have EVER seen.....to say that he isn't very good is just ridiculous.....

I liked Jackson too, but with Smith, we don't have to keep forgiving him for one bonehead mistake after another.

A Kenny Gainwell thread?? Really??!! 🧐🤓

Love me some Covey though. I've said it all season, he should be returning punts and Ship should be returning KOs. I'm happy that the Eagles Coaches finally listened to me. 🏈🏈

He’s been balling for Pittsburgh. I miss him and that smooth sax.
