Posted December 21, 2025Dec 21 He's had a rough few outings. When this has happened in the past, it was usually attributable to problems with the long snapper. There has been turnover at that position this year, and kickers can be notoriously sensitive. I've seen calls to cut him, which is sheer lunacy given his clutch performances for the team in the past. Birds need to get the long snapper position straightened out. It may be too late to find a replacement this year, but it's not too late for Charley Hughlett and Jake Elliot to put in extra practice time these next couple of weeks to get it right again.

Yeah, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. When it's basically commonplace for NFL kickers to be nailing 50+ yarders nowadays and Elliott can't even regularly make 40 yarders, it's time to move on.

December 21, 2025Dec 21 He's in a slump, for sure. Let's see if he can get out of it on over the next two weeks. If he doesn't, and he costs the Eagles a playoff game, then they should move on from him next season. Were the laces out on Jake's missed kicks?? 😬🏈🙃I think the Cowboys K, who is like All World, missed 2 kicks recently against the Vikings. And the kicks were in Dallas, where it seems like that K never misses.
December 21, 2025Dec 21 Wasn't last year rough also outside of the playoffs? Not sure if I'm getting it mixed up with the year before. If so, he's trending down. It isn't unreasonable for people to not want him when you see kickers making 55 yarders like it's a chip shot and we are holding our breath for a 40 yarder.
December 21, 2025Dec 21 Dude has lost it. You’ve got kickers kicking fgs 60+ with ease but our kicker barely makes a 30 yarder. Thankfully it hasn’t hurt them…. Yet
December 21, 2025Dec 21 No reason to cut him before the season ends, I mean his track record in the playoffs is really good and who the heck is out there in the street at this point to replace him thats going to be better?
December 21, 2025Dec 21 This is a concerning issue. For whatever reason Jake is struggling big time. Even if they don’t replace him, they should at least bring in some kickers for tryouts.

But Elliot's issues are only part of a special teams problem that is much larger. I understand it's difficult to have the same ST players return season after season with the way teams try to build rosters, but Michael Clay seems like someone we could replace without a risk of actually doing worse. In the past, I didn't mind that we were middle-ish as a whole on special teams because ST penalties were rare. This year the penalties are way up and bonehead mistakes and poor execution are also a problem. We haven't had a punt return for a TD since 2020 or a kickoff return for a TD since 2016. I may be overreacting based on Elliott's last game. It was only two misses. It just seemed worse because he had two chance for the second one and missed both times. But I am not opposed to putting players who don't really face competition on notice, by working out some players during practice. Elliot is the 2nd highest paid kicker in the league. Kicker pay should be based mostly on incentives, IMO.

There’s been some great and terrible plays on special teams this season, but the lack of discipline that’s been with the special teams lately needs to be addressed.

December 22, 2025Dec 22 Its a shame, but it's probably time for a fresh face. Jake isn't the same kicker he used to be. Seems that ship has finally sailed. Thank you, Jake- but it's time.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 We've had some great kickers over the years. Jake was one of them. Based on what I'm seeing though, he's struggled all year and really doesn't have it anymore

He catches kickoffs then runs a straight line into a pile and falls down. At least change direction once in a wile when it is warranted, or seek out a hole. The other team knows he runs in a straight line and doesn't need to stay in their lanes. I would give Bigsby another shot. He was a disaster in the Rams game but the Rams kicker (Karty) at the time was an expert at that wobbly kickoff. I can't think of anybody else.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 He struggled last year and then seemed to find his feet in the playoffs which I think convinced them he was good to go again. But this year has shown he really doesn’t have it anymore. It’s a shame and he’s a legend but it is time to move on. Right now kickers are such a weapon and asset in the NFL and he is hurting the team.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 Saturday's game was bad, to miss 3 field goals in exactly the same way is unforgivable, it's like he thought reality was wrong and just kicked all 3 the same way rather than change his aim. A couple of years ago, we need a clutch field goal, I'd have had no issues trusting Jake, but if this year we need a 40 yard fg as time expires to win I couldn't say the same, it's sad but he's done.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 He should be given legit competition, at the least, for next season. But for this year, we will have to ride him out and just hope he doesn't kill us in the playoffs. He's pulled himself out of slumps before, like last year.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 Mental issues? Tired leg? Snapper/Holder problems? Could be any of those.I think a good thing is that he still seems to have the leg to kick for distance. Accuracy is off though. So maybe he is overcorrecting for something. Hoping he corrects any issues come playoff time.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 All kickers decline. Jake has been in decline for 4 years. He's had 1 very good season in between. But he is a problem on ST's. He can't kick through the end zone on kick offs, he isn't reliable on 45+ yard kicks. They aren't bringing anyone in though; it's literally on Jake.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 I will always appreciate what Jake has done for the team but Saturday showed everybody in the world that it is time to hang it up. He has been great for the organization but its that time to move on....David Akers knew when it was time and he too was a legend.....Thanks for everything Jake.....
December 22, 2025Dec 22 I still believe in him. He doesn't usually miss important FGs and he's been almost perfect in the playoffs. He's clutch and that's the most important trait in a kicker IMHO. That said, if he's the reason we lose in January, then I'd be on board with replacing him. Also, kickers can be streaky. Elliot was perfect until I think week 7 or so, including 50+ field goals against the Chiefs and Cowboys. Hopefully he starts another good run in the playoffs.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 I'm not exactly up-to-date on the free agent market for kickers, but if there's someone you can bring in that's a little more consistent, I'm all for it. Elliot's been great for us, but he's been awful this year and is trending in the wrong direction. We aren't a good enough offense this year to come away empty when we put together somewhat decent drives. Can't be sentimental about our kicker because I don't think we'll be blowing anyone out in the playoffs this year.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 EVERY Offensive possession is extremely important in the playoffs (duh). If there are points to be had, via a FG, then said points will be needed/crucial.The Iggles cannot lose a playoff game, say 27 - 24, because of a missed FG and a missed XP.C'mon Jake. 🦅😬
December 22, 2025Dec 22 I know they all didn't count but 3 kicks going wide left was rough to see. He is only 30 seems like he has been around for ever. His kickoff yardage is down 6 yard from last year and his FG% is 70. Both all time lows.
