We know he's not a choker -- he's consistently hit clutch kicks throughout his career. But we have also seen that he can lose his mechanics ... e.g., he did that last year and then got things corrected for the Super Bowl. Given that the three kicks he missed Saturday were virtually identical -- well struck but pulled just two or three yards wide to the left -- I have hope that he will be able to make the appropriate correction and make his kicks the rest of the year. If not, then yeah, of course you have to bring in some competition.

Good post, Lennie.

The fact that all 3 missed kicks were the same way, tells me that it's a mechanical issue. Which I think can be corrected.

If the missed kicks were all over the place, and short, might tell me something different. I kicked in HS and low Division College football, and it was always a physical issue with me when I missed a FG or XP (hamstring issues).

C'mon Jake! We need you!!🥰🦅

I did look out of curiosity. Elliot's career FG % is 4% higher than Akers. Did not expect that.

He was great for a few seasons but was getting pretty shaky in 2024 and just regressed even further in 2025. He was the 2nd worst kicker in the league overall last season and missed more extra pt attempts than any kicker. Pretty sure the only thing that kept him making the roster this year with no competition was he went on a good streak in the post season in 2024 (as well as Nicks stubborn loyalty) but it's time for a change. I am hoping they bring in 2 or 3 new guys to compete for next season. Jake had a good run but the risk of another down year is too much. I would find it hard to believe they can't find an upgrade prior to opening day next season. Not their biggest problem but a problem nonetheless.

He will not be on the roster next season.

Thanks Jake.

He's made a lot of critical kicks for the Eagles in his career starting with that 61 yarder vs. the Giants in his rookie year. That said, the time has come for true competition. Bring in a group to compete and may the best kicker win.

I’ve always been a Jake fan. His career has had a weird trajectory … was solid for a while, then hit a slump, then regained form before his recent struggles again. There have been kickers that were brought in to "compete” (maybe that was more a psychological ploy by the team to try to light a fire under his arse) … like Dicker the kicker who is now one of the league’s best but we just weren’t ready to move on then. Hopefully they bring in someone after the draft (or dare I say even use a late round pick on a kicker) who will be legit competition this offseason and may the best leg win.

I though Dicker the Kicker was brought in because Jake was unavailable for a game in season but was released when Jake was recovered from whatever injury he had. Jake was okay for a while after that but then got a little shaky before going the same way as the offense this season. He really had no competition that I recall the last off-season. I almost consider it a small miracle he made as many kicks as he did in the 2024 post season as he was pretty shaky for a good number of games that season as well.

Not sure what the cap ramifications are about moving on from Missy Elliott, but really I think it’s time to consider other options.

"Jake Elliott Contract Breakdown (Cap Hits)

  • 2024: $4,570,000

  • 2025: $4,180,000

  • 2026: $4,893,000

  • 2027: $5,316,000

He is under contract through the 2028 season. According to reports, the team has potential out clauses in 2026."

Per Gemini.

He's going to get competition at a minimum. It really sucks with all the other needs this team has that they're going to have to use more resources this year to fix this position as well, and possibly another cap hit. You can't ride with the second highest paid kicker performing at the bottom of the league. Something has to happen.

Yeesh 5mill for a Kicker. I thought they were paid something like the League minimum. 😕

That was like 15 years ago. And I'm pretty sure Aubrey is about to reset the market for kickers.

Huh.

Welp, i guess that shows how out of touch I am with Kickers salaries. 🤓

Anyhow, I would like the Eagles to at least bring in some competition for Jake. He's declining kinda quickly, over the past couple of seasons, I mean.

When you get millions of dollars to kick a ball through the goal posts,

you don't just "lose your mechanics." And if you DO, then you need to
be replaced. Most of us love the guy... but .... its.... TIME.

All figures are cut pre-June 1 designations:

2026: $10.9M dead money (no cap savings)

2027: $3.9M dead money, $1.5M cap savings

2028: $1.8M dead money, $3.9M cap savings

I think he’s on the roster in 2026 with hopes he’ll regain his form. If not, then 2026 is his last year here.

What if he stinks again and costs them games? That dead cap hit is tough but it is tougher watching crucial kicks missed that costs games.

I came to that opinion with the idea that AJ Brown will likely be traded (certainly not a safe assumption). Looking at all options for AJ Brown not being in an Eagles uniform next season (cut vs traded, pre-June 1 vs post June 1 for both options), the best case scenario (with regard to impact on our cap) would be a post June 1 trade. In that case the dead money hit to the 2026 cap would be "only" $16.4M (obviously better than $72M or $45 ... the dead money hit to the cap under the other options ... but still sizeable).

I don't think they'll straight cut him, but there will definitely be some competition. Kicking is really fickle, you can be an All-Pro one season and cooked the next. There is the whole mental aspect to it, and there is no shortage of sucky kickers around the league.

For comparison, I feel like Akers hit a real rough patch after they cut Detmer. As he was really close to being cut he went on to be really good again and had 3 Pro-Bowl level season. One of those was with the 49ers and his replacement was a**.
