Posted January 8Jan 8 Dolphins reportedly considering top Eagles exec for GM vacancyThe Eagles face the 49ers in a wild-card game at the Linc on Sunday.By Reuben Frank • Published January 5, 2026The Dolphins have requested permission to interview Eagles Assistant General Manager Alec Halaby for their GM vacancy, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday. The Harvard-educated Halaby, long considered a top GM candidate, joined the Eagles in 2007 as an intern and gradually moved up to player personnel analyst in 2010, special assistant to the GM in 2012, vice president of football operations and strategy in 2016 and assistant GM in 2022.The Dolphins fired GM Chris Grier in October, and Champ Kelly served as interim GM the rest of the year. The Dolphins didn’t win a playoff game under Grier, who was hired in 2016.Roseman has lost a number of top assistants over the years, including GMs Joe Douglas to the Jets and Andrew Berry to the Browns. Douglas is currently back with the Eagles as senior personnel director.Current assistant GMs who worked under Roseman include Andy Weidl with the Steelers, Catherine Raîche with the Browns, Ian Cunningham with the Bears and Brandon Brown with the Giants. Chiefs GM Brett Veach and Bucs GM Jason Licht are both former Roseman assistants who have won Super Bowls. The Eagles also lost long-time scout Anthony Patch in the spring to the Raiders, where he’s a senior personnel executive. And Dave Caldwell, the former Jaguars GM, who joined the Eagles in 2021, left the team in November to become general manager at Florida, Roseman’s alma mater.Along with Jon Ferrari, Halaby is one of two Eagles assistant GMs. After originally joining the Eagles’ front office in 2016, Ferrari was promoted to his current role in 2022.Roseman has spoken about how losing top scouts is a price of success, and he always has a succession plan in place in the event that his top scouts leave for promotions. After building three Super Bowl rosters and winning Super Bowls with different coaches and quarterbacks, Roseman is as highly regarded as any GM in football, and his assistants are usually in great demand. The Dolphins have also requested permission to interview 49ers VP of Player Personnel Tariq Ahmad and director of scouting and football operations Josh Williams as well as Packers VP of Player Personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan, according to Pelissero. The Eagles face the 49ers in a wild-card game at the Linc on Sunday.https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/dolphins-report-assistant-general-manager-alec-halaby/704651/
