Has AJ Brown Played His Last Game in an Eagles Uniform?

I wish Dotson had another year left on his contract to see how he would potentially be used with a new OC or better yet had we hired that new OC last offseason (instead of KP) as we’d likely still be dancing. But who knows, since he hasn’t had much production these past 2 years maybe that’ll lower his value enough that we’d be able to bring him back on a somewhat cheaper 1 year prove-it deal.

With you on that....remember, he caught the very first touchdown in the Superbowl. I think any first round draft pick that is underused is just criminal and that's what happened this past season....I don't think Jalen barely ever looked his way and that's a damn shame.....

I was trying NOT to say that but yes, correct...open ALOT....

Get him out of here. Anyone saying how he was the only person speaking out this year is forgetting that he complained a day after winning the SB that he wasn’t as happy as he thought he’d be.

The NFL all week end was only calling penalties on the team trailing. For us, with our offensive ineptitude, it was a death knell. It was clear AJ was being held all night. He was practically wrapped up well ahead of time on the TD throw. He'll be fine with a competent OC.

I saw the discussion about that but didn't actually listen to the video (assuming there is one?) where he made that comment. I would need to hear the question that was asked and exactly how he answered. Wondering if maybe it was more of a "not content after winning a Super Bowl, want to win more" kinda answer. Those uber competitive guys don't rest on their laurels ... they have even bigger goals in mind (multiple championships, be recognized as THE GUY who got them there, etc.). I love his competitiveness but so long as it only drives him to work his tail off and go beast mode on the field 100% of the time. I haven't heard anyone question his work ethic as it relates to preparation but I think it is fair to question his effort at times during the games. Seems he is allowing his frustrations to impact his play, which is unfortunate. There are quite a few reasons why we are out of the tournament ... OL injuries leading to substandard play, crappy play calling, etc., but had Brown been able to haul in even one of the catches he dropped that game may have had a different outcome, so he is partly to blame for sure.

I love the guy and really appreciate having a WR that is capable of doing what he can do, but he really needs to get his head right. I sure hope a change to a new OC (who reportedly will be given full autonomy to run the offense the way he sees fit) and a better overall scheme (assuming it will be ... is it possible to be worse??) will get him back in the right place mentally so that he and Jalen can continue to work their magic together. If he is still half-assing it next season with the changes to the offense and continuing to make those jabs to the media then he for sure needs to go as that is going to impact the rest of the team (believe it did this season as well and I do wonder if it was enough where they plan to move on from him this offseason). He is paid as one of the top players at his position to not only catch passes but to be a leader. Time to start setting the right example with the latter.

He's gone. The only people who don't think so are the AJ fan boys who are in denial. He was probably gone anyway but after talking so much this year and then dropping three passes and going through the motions in the playoff loss put the nail in the coffin.

I feel like this one is more obvious than the KP decision.

Do teams need distractions? No. How many of the distractions revolved around AJ?

The tricky part is moving him. This situation might be one where a player for player trade makes sense. Maybe another team with a player in a similar cap situation with them. Perhaps Brown, if he wants out, can restructure or pay back a portion of his contract to help facilitate a trade. I believe he wants out and I believe the Eagles can't afford to go forward with a captain that makes scenes and closes himself off. It appears mutual.

He was awful this year. I don't need to look at stats. I watched every play of every game and then watched the tapes. Dropped passes, alligator arms, little blocking effort, pouting and on and on. If the guy is great next year it just shows he gave little effort this year. The guy just didn't seem to care. Can you bring a guy like that back? I don't know how management feels. And I'm not sure how much the Eagles can get for him in return. No way they get a first round pick. Maybe a second if he reaches certain catches, yards, etc. And he has an injury history so a conditional second may not be doable. This is a tough decision.

His contract is the issue. If not, there would be more people agreeing it's feasible they'd trade him.

Kempski wrote a piece discussing the financial ramifications of trading him. I posted it earlier in 411 so I won't bother to post a duplicate of it here too but I will include a link (if anyone is interested in reading it).

Given the cap impact, he should stay 1 more year. If I were a talented receiver and my head coach protected his friend who is an incompetent OC, clear to everyone who watches the team, and it affected my performance and enjoyment of the game, I'd be disgruntled. Get a good OC with a high-scoring system, and Brown will return to being happy. This is on Siri; it can be fixed with a good OC, keep Brown for 1 more year to get out of the cap situation and move on.

Who replaces him? JD is leaving in FA. They can't sign Pickens. Then there is the cap space on top of not having anyone to replace him. Anyone rather have Smith, Wilson, and Coop?

I'm sure Howie would love to sign GP and trade Brown, but that's not possible. I'd rather give the new OC a year with Brown since they are paying him anyway.

Denzel Boston or Malachi Fields in the draft using the pick you got for AJ

Even if the cap hit is not enormous - the talent hit is enormous. Plus, the big problem has been resolved. Patullo is gone. I doubt AJ is going anywhere.

Keep him 1 to 2 more years? See what success or happiness he can have with a new OC?

I think he truly does not like Siri though. Therefore, maybe he wants a trade.

He tweeted and deleted it shortly afterwards. Nothing about his body language or effort has shown that he wants to be here. If even winning the SB doesn’t satisfy you, then I don’t want you on my team.

I’ll leave this here for anyone thinking we should keep him and that changing OC will make him play better. This was tweeted and deleted right after the SB last year.

AJ is a selfish diva not a martyr. I don’t ever want to hear the T.O comparisons.

No amount of facts or evidence about the contract or cap ramifications will stop people from saying just trade him. Some people just don't think.

Were those people not around for the 30+ million dead cap hit from trading Wentz?

I doubt very much he leaves. Anybody listen to Howie's comments today? He said that you look for greatness, and when a player has it, you don't let him leave. I doubt very much bridges were burned with anybody pulling strings in the organization, and if things somehow got out of hand, you could be sure Howie would trade him for a bundle.

He loves football for different reasons. I don't think the way he feels is terrible. I just don't think it aligns with the culture the Eagles are trying to build. He would be a perfect WR for a QB like Kirk Cousins who would feed him the ball all game long, win or lose. There are a lot of things I like about Brown --- even much of his personality. But at the end of the day, I'd rather all the players on the team care about team results above all else. I root for all the players wearing Midnight or Kelly green and by doing so, I'm hoping they can all enjoy success. It saddens me (for lack of a better term) that a player like AJ Brown feels underwhelmed being an integral part of a championship team. He is gifted in this sport, but has a void in his heart that requires competition in a non-team sport.

Let’s hope not.

Unfortunately he will though.

With this contract no and Howie had a clear answer yesterday

I remember when that was posted. There are a few ways that quote can be interpreted. He didn't have great numbers in the Super Bowl (just 3 catches for a measly 43 yards). If I had to guess, he was happy for the win but wish he was able to contribute more. It is crazy when you have a guy that can dominate the way he describes but too often gets underutilized. He loses focus of the big picture ... the W is all that really counts. He also loses track of other ways he contributed to get that W beyond just receiving yards (blocking, etc.).

I think the big problem is AJ/Hurts. Or at least it was. BG let the cat out of the bag last year. People are acting like AJ only did this this year. He’s done it every year. We just didn’t notice as much because the offense didn’t look this bad. He does ur where they are winning/losing doesn’t matter. Even if the offense if great and he ain’t getting his… he’s not happy.
