Has AJ Brown Played His Last Game in an Eagles Uniform?

I’ll leave this here for anyone thinking we should keep him and that changing OC will make him play better. This was tweeted and deleted right after the SB last year.

AJ is a selfish diva not a martyr. I don’t ever want to hear the T.O comparisons.

Later that offseason, his trainer shared more in this story:

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46139248/aj-brown-nfl-philadelphia-eagles-post-super-bowl

The last accomplishment fell short of personal expectation, with the ecstasy of winning a Lombardi Trophy lasting all of two days. "I thought my hard work would be justified by winning it all," Brown wrote on Feb. 12. "It wasn't."

Shortly after that Instagram post, Brown had a conversation with longtime trainer Joey Guarascio that delved deeper into his psyche.

"It almost made him mad because the feeling after the Super Bowl was like, 'That's it? Like there needs to be more. We need to make this thing a dynasty. I need to be a Hall of Famer,'" Guarascio said.

"Every time we talk, it's, 'I want to leave a legacy that's memorable. I want people to talk about the Eagles like they do the New England Patriots in the 2000s.' He always had an idea and a belief that he could do it, and now that he's starting to get the physical evidence behind it, it's just, you know, he's talking it into fruition."

Nothing wrong with that.

He also added this at one point during the season :

"It's not just solely about my situation. I want to win, too," he said. "I think if we're really focused on winning and doing our job, we can't just keep slapping a Band-Aid over the defense doing their job and getting us out of trouble. At what point are we going to pick up our slack as an offense? That's what I'm getting at. It's not about, 'I don't care about winning, all I care about is stats.' No. It's been week after week sometimes we're not doing our job on offense. You can't keep slapping a Band-Aid over that and expect to win late in the year and think you're going to go to that at the end of the year. It's not going to f---ing happen."

He wasn't wrong. And again, nothing wrong with that.

Honestly, if the player is performing who cares if they aren't satisfied with a SB or their individual achievements? WRs are known for being "divas" while RBs are known for being quiet workhorses.

The real issue with AJ isn't tweets or comments, because his teammates like him and support him. The real issue is his effort that reduced this year, showing his frustration, and key drops. I chalk that up to frustration with Patullo, it was seen in others as well.

Let's see a new experienced OC who knows what the hell he's doing, coaches these men and leads them in a way they respect, and hopefully execute a productive offense again.

Financially, AJ is likely gone after next season anyway. Shift salary to the stud defensive players. You still have DeVonta and they will need to draft a TE this year, then their WR2 doesn't have to be a stud player, just a good one.

The excuses for this guy are amazing.

Didn't he give his game jersey to Q on clean-out day? Action speaks louder?

There may be more to the trade winds - the guy that broke the story about trouble with Wentz in the locker room reported today that AJ could be heard asking for a trade several times during the season.

If that is really something he wants, then he needs to meet halfway to make it feasible. He can pay back some of his signing bonus and recoup it by immediately signing an extension with his new team. Or he can stay here and presumably be miserable until we get our money's worth.

Realistically, he could only be traded after June 1st and that makes it very difficult. The draft and free agency are over and we would never get fair value.

Even though he is a jerk bag, and he alligator armed like 3 passes against the 9ers, and he kinda didn't block with much effort, and he half arsed ran some of his routes, I would expect him to be on the Eagles for at least one more year.

Anyone who watched the 49ers get destroyed today?

Seahawks #1 receiver and "best weapon" had 3 catches for 19 yards....they didn't force the ball to him.

Instead they rushed the ball 35 times

Post June seems the best chance to move him. Seems to me like a trade deadline move.

They didn't need to pass the ball much. They had a 3 score lead before halftime. Wise to run the ball and chew up as much clock as possible. Plus Walker was getting >6yds each time he touched the ball so why not ride him? Love when play calling makes sense.

They could move him before camp. Howie could prey on some GM who is discounting 2027 picks

He was gone from the team from a mental standpoint in 2025 and also physically with all the drops, alligator arms, half assed play, etc. Somebody posted last week (I would like to give them credit but don't remember the name of the poster) that once a diva receiver checks out then he is gone. Brown has checked out.

If Brown really wants out he should put his money where his mouth is and re-negotiate his contract to make it easier for Howie to trade him. If the Eagles really want Brown gone and he refuses to re-negotiate the Eagles can tell him he will be inactive for all seventeen games even if there are a rash of WR injuries and they need to sign guys off the street. That should do it.

I keep changing my mind on this topic.

I want him here - next season - because I think he could obviously help the Iggles get another Super Bowl title.

BUT, then I think, what type/kind of haul could Howie get back for AJ via a trade?

Wrs with his attitude don't fetch much. Who the hell wants to spend a ton on a guy who isn't even happy after winning a super bowl

Maybe trade him for a 3rd round pick and an OLineman? That's not asking too too much. IMO.

Maybe back the Titans? LOL. 😎😎

If he gets traded, it's after June 1 for cap purposes. Howie will wait for a desperate team who just had a top line receiver go down. Then he'll pounce. Remember the Sam Bradford trade. 😂

I don't know if trading AJ is the right move here, Superbowl window is still open but closing fast, if somehow Eagles can retool the roster and make sure that BUM sirianni stays far away from the offense, play calling, players and have absolutely zero influence other than just be a statue then Eagles have a chance to get back to the Superbowl next year...

But this is dumb, it was AJ that half assed it this year, he made a big noise about not being used, went to Lurie complaining that he wasn't being used, then running the passing offense primarily through him made it worse, and even then he still didn't put it all on the line in a season ending loss, and you want the team to say 'OK if we keep the head coach away from the offense will you start making an effort again?' What sort of message is that sending to other players?

Swear to god some of you deserve another 50 odd year wait for a Superbowl.

I’d hate for it to be at that point, unless they have another relieving option ready to go. I don’t think they move him unless it’s in their best interest, but Howie has made these types of moves before and somehow got better afterwards.

There is an argument to be made for both scenarios, trading or keeping AJ.

AJ quit on the deep route against Denver which he shouldn't have. To be fair to AJ, he was beating Surtain quite often and making catches in the 1st quarter of that game, and then all of a sudden no passes were thrown his way till towards end of the game when Hurts threw the deep ball, AJ probably thought the ball was not coming to him hence he didn't run the route at full speed.

49ers game he was bad, dropping almost everything, but I feel the coaching and game planning put him in a bad place, there is only so much high school offense an all pro WR can handle before it starts to affect him mentally...

I feel for the Eagles to have the best chance to get back to the Superbowl, keeping a motivated AJ is the right way to go which can be achieved as long as there is no circus from that bum Sirianni.

I might be totally wrong, will find out next season..

I could see the team keeping him. Bring in the right OC and get things humming again and AJ will be happy to dominate on a great team. AJ isn't difficult to figure out. He doesn't care about the team accolades or maybe even personal accolades. He just want to compete and dominate the opposing defense and have fun doing so. I could also see the team wanting to move on from his antics. But the team is set up well to handle AJ and he won't be a cancer to the team.

I will say this - AJ could become expendable if the Eagles valued a monster like this guy, and a mega move would be needed to assemble to draft capital required to acquire him

https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Kadyn-Proctor-OL-Alabama

He apparently requested a trade numerous times this season, so if Howie can make it happen and work out in his favor, AJ is gone. I like AJ and wish he could retire here, but to be fair, the guy did say he doesn't get his thrill from winning and being a champion, he gets it from dominating. With that attitude, I don't think he's a good fit here.
