Has AJ Brown Played His Last Game in an Eagles Uniform?

He apparently requested a trade numerous times this season, so if Howie can make it happen and work out in his favor, AJ is gone. I like AJ and wish he could retire here, but to be fair, the guy did say he doesn't get his thrill from winning and being a champion, he gets it from dominating. With that attitude, I don't think he's a good fit here.

If a guy doesn’t want to be here then they should find a way to move on from him. Not at the expense of the team and the cap I suppose, but you can’t keep a constant distraction around especially one that you call a captain on the team.

Brown on Parsons podcast - called Philly home. Said excited to get to work and lots of leadership within locker room including him.

Looks like he’s going nowhere - good.

Am I crazy or did anyone else notice his piss poor efforts blocking multiple times late in the season? I don't care how talented you are, you simply cannot play while performing like that. Not only do you hurt the overall success of the team, but you can actually get a teammate physically injured by giving no effort whatsoever to selfishly preserve yourself for the off-season inevitable trade. There used to be a time where Philly would want no part of such player...I guess times have changed.

Yeah there were definitely times where he seemed to lack effort. Both in terms of blocking and route running when he figured the ball wasn’t going his way (and on occasions it actually did). He also had some really big and bad drops. You can’t complain about not getting targeted enough and then not come up big when you are needed.

That's my thing. I was fully on his side until he started to show his ass in the second half of the season. After that I can't see a way he comes back.

Brown dogged it off and on throughout the season. His effort looked like dog crap in the playoff loss. He's a goner. No way Howie keeps him around.

He's saying the right things so that he can get traded. He doesn't want to now be viewed across the league as a negative malcontent.

Yep. I can almost guarantee you Howie and/or Lurie told him after the season to keep his mouth shut so they can find the best solution for both parities which means a split.

He borderline quit on the team. His effort throughout the season was questionable at best and he was completely checked out in the playoff game and let the team down after causing all of that drama numerous times throughout the season.

AJ explains that people that aren't competitors on the field don't understand his mindset but other competitors do.

Fish swim … so send him to the Dolphins! And he’ll be exceptionally happy that Patullo is now the pass game coordinator there after he raved about how great a job he did last year! lol

Imagine that!

I'd be interested to see what he would/could do with a new Offensive Coaching Staff.

BUT, and I'm surmising, the issues and problems run deeper. Especially with the QB.

Even though I think Brown will probably be traded this offseason, there's definitely a part of me that hopes things smooth out and he stays at least one more year. If we trade him, who would replace him? A free agent? Draft pick? Darius Cooper?

I love Smitty, but I don't think he's the type of "alpha" that can carry the WR corps. Combine this with likely no Goedert either. It's not like Hurts is the type of QB who will elevate receivers...he appears to need the receivers to elevate him.

I, too, would prefer to see him here for the upcoming season. As Howie said, you search for great players and when you find them you don't want to lose them. It would be great to see what his mindset would be now with a new OC and as expected a completely different scheme in place (I don't buy even for a nanosecond that he really thinks Patullo did an excellent job here ... I think he was just playing nice). But if I'm being honest, I don't think the change to the offense is going to lead to any kind of change with him. I think that this is just the way he is wired and he will be frustrated by something and it will manifest itself in his play (again).

True...he definitely seems like he just wants to be the workhorse WR who gets fed the ball 8-12 times per game every week so his stats get pumped up. He doesn't seem to do well in a run-focused offense where his opportunities are more limited...which would likely mean he also wouldn't do well in a "spread it around" offense like the Packers run. If Mannion ends up running an offense similar to the Packers, he won't be happy either. But if Mannion deploys something more like McVay's offense, he could be our "Puka".

The crazy thing is, he still logged 1450-1500 yards in consecutive years (2022-2023) that are right in line with Puka's career average. Maybe because he had a bit of a dropoff and only logged just over 1000 yards the past 2 seasons is the biggest source of the his frustration? I don't recall ... did we see any of this nonsense from him in 2022 or 2023? But those were his first 2 years here so even if we didn't it could just be that he was still in that honeymoon phase. I hate that we're in this phase with him.

2024 was all about Saquon and both of the last 2 years Brown's numbers were down compared to his first 2 with us. So, yeah, his numbers being down regardless of the team winning still affects him. He wants those numbers.

My only real issue with him is the mindset that prefers dominating a personal matchup over winning the game. He found no happiness in knowing his team was the Champions. That's something a lot of fans ripped Carson Wentz for after expressing disappointment he wasn't part of the Super Bowl win.

Actually 2024 he missed 4 games, otherwise would have been pretty close to his first two years stats.

I’m hoping they can make it work for at least another year. If we trade him, we would be selling low and as we can’t trade him until June, we wouldn’t get any picks to help this year.

Difficult I know because the effort was a real issue, but he would be really hard to replace. Hopefully a good new OC can mend some bridges, because I think it would be really difficult for us to be competitive in 2026 without him.

That's a great point ME ... I forgot he missed those games. So he (likely) would still have been close to the numbers in 2022 and 2023 had he not missed those 4 games, we win it all, and he was still frustrated. Maybe because he had pedestrian numbers in the championship game (3 catches for 43 yards). But seriously, we were up 40-6. If you can't feel any satisfaction in that then there's something wrong with ya. Like I said, I think that is just the way he is wired internally ... I think no matter what happens this upcoming season, he will end up frustrated again by something.
