This is why it's important to note that the 53-man roster that was unveiled on Saturday was simply the initial roster. Not final. Far from it.

Howie Roseman indicated on Saturday evening that there will be moves made and the Eagles wasted no time as they claimed running back Jason Huntley off waivers from the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Here's what you need to know about Huntley:

• Huntley was a fifth-round pick of the Lions (No. 172 overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft out of New Mexico State.

• Huntley is 5-9, 195 pounds.

• In 46 career college games, Huntley gained 2,197 rushing yards (5.9 yards per carry) and scored 18 touchdowns on the ground.

• Huntley also accounted for 134 receptions for 1,119 yards and seven touchdowns at New Mexico State.

• Huntley was the only 2020 draft-eligible back with at least 1,000 career receiving yards.

• A kickoff return specialist, Huntley added five touchdowns, while averaging 25.8 yards per return.

• Huntley led the NCAA with three kickoff return touchdowns in 2018.

• Huntley's 373 all-purpose yards against Louisiana in 2018 were the most by any NCAA player that season.

• The Arlington, Texas native was a member of the state's fourth-best 4x400 relay team at Martin High School.

• Not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, Huntley had a 4.37-second 40-yard dash and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump at New Mexico State's Pro Day which took place before the pandemic.

• With Huntley on the active roster, the Eagles have four running backs: Huntley, Corey Clement, Miles Sanders, and Boston Scott. The Eagles can also add players to their practice squad starting at 1 PM.

Interesting. Can't say I know anything about him but they obviously were interested.

Pretty solid pass catching back with decent size. Has nice athleticism. Could be a solid 3rd/4th guy

Sounds like he can be a returner too.

Anyone questions why the Lions dumped their 5th round pick this year 2020??? All I hear is the hype on how great Huntley is. I suspect that there maybe something that Lions saw that we did not yet discover. I would be extremely surprised if Huntley will even see the field in 2020, unless the game is already decided.

Always the way isn't it? It's hype for now as everyone goes off the YouTube highlights but yeah the reality is the Lions cut him. Although that may have been to make way for AP.

No, I don't.......guys are released for any number of reasons.  Maybe the Lions hoped that he cleared waivers to be re-signed to their practice squad.....

I think he'll be the kickoff return guy and be worked in on passing downs later in the season....

He has a good chance at being our KOR to start the season with Reagor out.

They signed Peterson didn't they? I guess they hoped Huntley would clear waivers and they could stash him on the PS.

Scoured the Lions board and they were more concerned with the waste of the pick than the player. Seems he's muffed a few kicks in practice and his role as a pass catcher got schemed out. He's got speed but outside the returner role his skill set is well covered by our current RBs. Hands are questionable. Seems like another Avery type pick.

Well if he ends up fanning out here then no biggy ... not like we coughed up a pick for him (like Pumphrey or Avery or ...).

IMO it can’t hurt to get him here in our system working with our coaches to see what he might develop into.

Especially with Duce as his coach. Duce seems to get everything he possibly can out of his backs

Yes they did, and I imagine you are right on the money thinking they were hoping to get him on to their PS.

I believe that staff up there in Detroit is feeling a lot of pressure to show improvement this year and wanted to roll with a known commodity rather than wait on a young player to develop.  Having added Huntley is basically the equivalent of Howie having made 11 draft picks rather than 10.

To be honest I was surprised when I saw how good Peterson's numbers for the 2 years he was in Washington, if you're looking for someone to teach young running backs how it's done and still contribute you could do a hell of a lot worse.

Looking at the rest of Detroit's running backs though, it looks like Patricia has just stuck with guys he's seen before no matter how ordinary. He's pretty much in the last chance saloon though I guess.
