Source: Eagles hiring another OC candidate to a different coaching role

The Eagles are hiring former Bucs OC Josh Grizzard as their passing game coordinator under Sean Mannion.

The Eagles already hired Sean Mannion as their offensive coordinator but they’re bringing in another finalist for a different role.

The Eagles are hiring former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard as passing game coordinator, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news.

Grizzard, 35, was one of four known candidates to receive second interviews for the offensive coordinator position in person in Philadelphia this week. The other three were Mannion, Jim Bob Cooter and Jerrod Johnson.

So after a lengthy interview process, the Eagles have ended up hiring two of their top candidates: Mannion as offensive coordinator and Grizzard as passing game coordinator.

The Eagles’ passing game coordinator in 2025 was Parks Frazier, who took over that role from Kevin Patullo when Patullo was promoted to OC after the Super Bowl win. Patullo was relieved of his OC duties earlier this offseason.

Grizzard spent the last two years working under Todd Bowles on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ staff. He was passing game coordinator in 2024 under Liam Coen and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2025 before getting fired after the end of the season. At least Grizzard has some experience calling offensive plays, something Mannion did not get during his two years coaching in Green Bay.

Before going to the Buccaneers in 2024, Grizzard spent the previous seven seasons in Miami with the Dolphins. His last two seasons in Miami came under head coach Mike McDaniel, but he was hired by Miami in 2017 when Adam Gase was the head coach and stayed on when Brian Flores was hired.

"Getting into the NFL and learn the pro system from Adam Gase and being able to see how coach Flo looked at offenses from a defensive standpoint, that was huge being able to pick his brain,” Grizzard said in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times last summer.

"I wouldn’t have been able to get the job in Tampa without working for Mike McDaniel for two years. That kind of put the system together of things you believe in, fundamentally, schematically. So being able to be on that staff for two years, that was invaluable because it brought things that I believed in together into one package instead of having pieces of all these different coordinators I’ve been around.”

Before his time in Miami, Grizzard was a graduate assistant and quality control coach at duke from 2013-16, a student assistant at Yale in 2012 and was also a team operations intern with the Carolina Panthers in 2012. Grizzard played defensive back at Yale from 2008-11.

The Buccaneers got off to a hot start in 2025 with Grizzard as their OC with a 6-2 record at their bye week. But they really fell apart in the second half of the year and missed the playoffs with a ton of injuries. The Bucs ended up with the 21st-ranked offense in the NFL in 2025 after being ranked 3rd in 2024 when Grizzard was passing game coordinator.

Seems like a good move. Does anyone think Parks Frazier demonstrated he is a keeper. Looking ahead, assume the Eagles have another very good year and Mannion becomes a hot head coaching candidate. We have an outside guy who we brought inside to replace him.

So now the Eagles have the Heir and the Spare.
