Fangio thought about retiring. Was convinced to stay.

Well...the run was fun while it lasted but the chips are starting to fall and what could've been a dynasty is quickly dying

I could see it if the offense fails again and they fire Nick. Doubt Vic wants to go through a rebuild

Crap.

I would bring back Gym Shorts to be the DC. If he was available.

Losing Christian Parker will hurt even more if this is true

Yeah I've been saying since the end of the season that if this turns into a rebuild that Fangio will likely retire. He's too old to want to go through that.

I would bring Jim Schwartz in as a defensive consultant anyway to backfill Fangio during the season in case he gets fed up with the bs. Also creates a succession plan. What a cluster. No one wants to work with Nick since he is such a clown.

As soon as you start thinking this much about retiring, I think it’s time to retire.

I wonder if Nick is a reason why he is even thinking about retiring. Our offensive philosophy was taxing on this roster and staff. Even if he agrees to another year we better start looking and preparing

Oh for sure, if the O stinks again, and his side of the ball has to carry the team, again, I could definitely see Vic saying "I'm done. Good luck Eagles."

So Fangio came here after the 2023 epic collapse where the defense was atrocious and didn't have a whole lot. So now he all of a sudden doesn't want to go through a rebuild or work with Nick according to the board lol. Doesn't make much sense

He's maybe also thinking about the roster changes that will/might happen on his side of the ball. He lost Sweat, Milton, Slay, CJ, etc...last season.

So, his thought process could be "we can't re-sign all of the good players we have now on my Defense". Therefore, he may have to start over again with 4-5 new D players. He may just become tired of that.

Everyone on defense is pretty much locked up or still on rookie deals through next season minus Dean, blank, ojimo and Graham will retire again. It won't be the same overhaul that it was this past season

I think to be honest Vic probably looks at it and thinks this team probably isn’t going to win a SB next year. There will be talent but the moves they made at OC and pass game coordinator I’m not sure they are all in on next year? Especially given Howie mentioned (without being questioned) that they were going to have too make some perhaps unpopular moves and think about the future. He’s lost Parker from his staff and might be thinking F this.

Mind you that would be really annoying for him to decide this now. Could have decided earlier and perhaps we would have promoted Parker?

Yeah- WHAT rebuild? They have a great core. They are great at replacing players/positions through the draft and FA that NEED it. Not sure what "rebuild" these people are even talking about. The problem for me is this: When you WANT to retire, you are just done with whatever it is you were doing. For whatever reason, he WANTS to retire. They talked him out of it, but he really doesn't want to do it anymore. All I can say is find a GOOD replacement.

I hope Howie is doing some back-door dealing with Sean McDermott. Line him up to be DC with the promise that if we don't go deep into the playoffs next year, he can have Sirianni's job.

I doubt Howie and especially lurie would go for a defensive minded coach

Or maybe...hear me out... He is 67 years old, has been coaching since 1979, has finally won a Super Bowl, and is just tired and done?

Nah it can't be something like that.

If he does - I vote either promoting Clint Hurtt, Schwartz or Matt Burke from the Texans

Have been mentioning that for quite some time! I've said more than once that look, Vic might not exactly be down for the HC he's comfortable with being thrown out a window and replacing him with god knows who...

Why the actual F would we want to hire Sean McDermott as our head coach?

Do you realize how much disrespect he'd get if he didn't succeed very early? Eagles fans are petty and would point to 2009 all over again LOL

If Fangio retired now, that would be a disaster. We'd have to pivot back to Schwartz...but not sure how that works since he's technically still under contract with the Browns. They'd either have to agree to release him or force a trade for him, I guess. He can't quit and come here, that's for sure.

But at this point, I have to assume Fangio will be back. I'm sure Eagles' brass talked up making "one more run" or something like that.

This team is an absolute train wreck. They should have just let him retire and promoted his protégé Parker instead of letting him go to the cowboys. Insane.

he's one of the few rookie coaches we didn't totally destroy. Unlike Brian Johnson, Kevin Patullo, and Juan Castillo (in his rookie roll as DC), Mc Dermott actually went on to have success at DC in Carolina, and then HC of Buffalo. Did he win the Super Bowl, no he didn't. He did, however, keep them competitive for years. At the end of the year that's all you can really ask for. Decades of "demanding" championships, did nothing for us.
