Report: Eagles place Will Parks and Quez Watkins (but not Jalen Reagor) on injured reserve

Frees up two roster spots.

UPDATE: The Eagles officially confirm that Will Parks and Quez Watkins will start the 2020 season on injured reserve. This opens up two roster spots. They’ll likely be filled by Cre’Von LeBlanc and Cordy Glenn.

Watkins going on IR means the Eagles currently only have four healthy receivers on the 53 since Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor are injured. They are: DeSean Jackson, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Greg Ward, and John Hightower. The Eagles could look to use the new practice squad call up rule to add Deontay Burnett to the game day roster during the first two weeks. Doing that would give them five.

ORIGINAL STORY BELOW.

The Philadelphia Eagles are placing Will Parks — but not Jalen Reagor — on injured reserve, according to a report from Reuben Frank.

We learned that Parks is out for "multiple weeks” with a hamstring injury this past Wednesday. NFL Network reported a more specific timetable of four-to-six weeks.

By going on IR, Parks will be required to miss at least 21 days before the Eagles can activate him back to their 53-man roster. Parks also won’t be eligible to be activated from IR a second time in 2020 should he get hurt again.

Putting Parks on IR frees up a roster spot. Hopefully the Eagles use it to re-sign Cre’Von LeBlanc, whom they released on Sunday to make room for waiver claim running back Jason Huntley.

As for Reagor, it’s good to see that his shoulder injury isn’t serious enough to warrant him going on IR. The Eagles clearly believe the rookie wide receiver can be ready to play in Week 3 at the latest, so he might only miss a game or two.

So we have 5 healthy WRs? Gulp.

It's a WCO. They have 2 healthy TE's and a couple RB's who can catch. They're good.

Watkins sounds absolutely like a stash to me.

Dislocated eyebrow hair and he'll be on IR all season.

Yeah - no worries. Suspect Burnett and Hightower will be active but not play much. A lot of two TE sets make sense. JJAW will get opportunities.

I guess everyone forgot about the Falcons game last year where our players dropped liked flies. How do we not have 3 he'll even a 4th tight end but we have 6 safeties.

100% agreed. And for good reason. I think this kid is talented enough. But our WR room is too full, for now...

Is it? I'm not sure that can be the case with our WR room given who we have in there.

Yes. Once Alshon and Reagor come back...

There is lots of uncertainty at WR, but I'm reasonably optimistic. Hopefully Reagor/Jeffery are back in the first 2-3 weeks, but until then we have to hope that DJax can stay healthy as our one established deep threat.

Most rookie WR, particular lower round ones, suck, plain and simple. That's why they've stashed Watkins. Burnett is limited, but will probably be more effective than Quez at this point.

I don't want Watkins to be an IR "stash" as he wouldn't be able to practice with the rest of the team then which would obviously delay his development.  I'd prefer him rejoin then team when healthy in some capacity, whether on the 53 or the PS to get acclimated in the offense.  That'll be a huge advantage come next year when it is likely both AJ and DJax are gone.

Wouldn't that give other teams an opportunity to snag Watkins though? This way we have 8 weeks to keep him around

Yeah that's the balance. Put him on PS and it gives teams an opportunity at him.

I agree about AJ and DJax, but I think Watkins is not in the plans to replace them. I suspect he will be a #4/5 at best. They probably don't think he's worth a roster spot right now. Who knows though, with injuries etc they may be able to add him in later in the year.

If Alshon comes back. And we don't even know when that's going to be.

Hoping a 32 year old coming off a year where he basically played one game and required surgery isn't a great strategy though is it.
