Double Dip at TE

Posted March 10th, 2026

Howie Roseman didn’t stop after signing CB Riq Woolen earlier today. He went right back to work, adding a pair of TEs to the roster.

The Eagles signed Johnny Mundt, who was just cut by the Jags. Mundt is 6-4, 243 so he’s not the biggest guy in the world, but he is a good blocker. Yes, you read that right. The Eagles finally signed a blocking TE. Howie admitted he needed to re-think the way the TE room had been built in recent years. They needed a blocker and finally got one.

Mundt is 31 and has nine seasons under his belt. He’s got 74 career catches. He comes on the field to be physical and help the run game.

Mundt is able to win at the point of attack. He can fire off the ball and execute a reach block. He can also get to the second level and take out a LB. That kind of blocking was sorely lacking in the Eagles run game last season. Mundt is also a good fit because he has experience with Sean Mannion and new OL coach Chris Kuper. He knows the scheme and how they want things done.

Since the Jags cut him, Mundt won’t count against the comp pick formula.

After adding a rugged, physical blocker Howie decided to go in the opposite direction. He re-signed Grant Calcaterra to a 1-year deal.

Ugh.

I thought we were done with Calcaterra. I was wrong. Howie drafted him and still believes in Calcaterra. He is a good athlete and can be a solid receiver. Maybe he’ll be a better fit in the new offense. The Eagles needed bodies at TE so I can live with Calcaterra coming back.

There is still a chance that Dallas Goedert gets re-signed. Both Mundt and Calcaterra are role players. I like the TE class in the upcoming draft and think the Eagles will add at least one. It feels like the position will be upgraded, which was needed. The TEs were a disappointment last year, even with DG’s 11 TDs. Their overall play just wasn’t good enough.

We had a shocking development on Tuesday night.

Wow.

Word got out that Crosby didn’t pass his physical. That could be legit or it could be BS from the Ravens. They knew he had a meniscus injury. Maybe their doctors saw issues and had legitimate concerns. Or maybe they had buyer’s remorse and wanted an excuse to back out of the deal. Trey Hendrickson is unsigned as of now and wouldn’t cost any picks.

Teams around the league are not happy with the Ravens handling of the situation. Backing out of a major trade like this is unheard of. It happens with smaller deals, but nothing like this.

Will Crosby simply stay with the Raiders? How many other teams will now have interest? The Eagles might, but the Raiders won’t be able to find anyone else to give up a pair of first round picks for him. Maybe Howie gets involved if the price is right. We’ll see.

Crazy situation.

The Eagles had a couple of more players leave.

OL Brett Toth signed with SF.

QB Sam Howell signed with Dallas.

The team needed an upgrade with OL depth so Toth leaving isn’t a surprise. Howell wasn’t expected back. The team could look to add a QB in the draft.

If Goedert comes back and they draft a TE the odd man out will be Calcaterra.

Howie has done a great job there’s no denying that and so I’m not trying to be overly critical here. But when it comes to some players he really does have a bit of a blind spot right? Calcaterra being given a 1 year deal? I just don’t really get that.

Mundt is a good addition in terms of blocking so hopefully that helps the run game next year. But we still need to bring in a good all round TE. Because right now we have Mundt who likely won’t feature much in the pass game and so makes it more predictable what we are going to do when he’s on the field. And we have Calcaterra who can’t block (please don’t ask him to again) and is an okay catcher so again predictable when he’s on the field.
