Eagles do nothing sign a couple low end free agents.

Have rumors of trading players and for players

sign back their worst tightend

Let all their players go to other teams to collect comp Picks

I'm usually the guy who insists the glass is half full. I'm the eternal optimist and believer in Howie.

But - WTF!!!!

What is going on here?

We keep kicking around with Goedert and getting nothiing else done.

There's no stud at edge to replace Phillips. Maybe a trade for Grenard or Crosby is on the works, but nothing is hot.

We still don't have a WR3 and the mid-level guys who are reliable veterans keep going off of the board.

Who is going to be our starting safety beside Mukuba? That guy is sure not here, and if you look at what's available on Spotrac it' scary.

The rule of thumb is to fill holes with free agency so you don't have to reach in the draft and you can draft the BPA. I don't see a possibility of that happening. Maybe we resign Goedert and a mid-level wide out, but there's no stud edge or starting safety on the horizon.

That makes edge and WR a draft priority which pushes a Lane Johnson replacement back another year.

I've never felt like Howie and his philosophy have let us down but I;m on the verge of it this year.

I’m not as dramatic as this post but there is definitely some wtf parts to this offseason.. either you want Dallas back or not screwing around a week into free agency is just insane! It almost seems like they aren’t sure they want him but they would like the cap space incase they get an offer they would take for AJ.

No worries, boys!

It’s pretty clear to me what’s going on. Eagles can’t let both Goedert walk and trade AJ pre June 1. They’d be taking on a dead cap hit north of 60 million.

Something’s gotta give. If they re-sign Goedert they even get some cap relief and they’d have enough to absorb the dead cap hit if they trade AJ before the draft.

If they trade him pre draft, the compensation has to be pretty high. At least a first and change.

Let’s assume for the sake of the argument that they re-sign Goedert tomorrow and trade AJ in the upcoming weeks to either the Pats, Rams or Broncos. They’d barely have enough cap space to sign their rookies so a trade for either Greenard or Sweat is of the table. They now have to rely on the draft to address OL, Edge, S and WR but likely will have the draft picks to do it.

Now let’s take a look at scenario 2; we re-sign Goedert tomorrow but wait to trade AJ post June 1. Now we have enough cap space to make a move for say Greenard and we’d be going into the draft without at least one of our 3rd round picks but our edge room is full. We’d have 8 draft picks to address OL, WR, TE and safety but won’t have to take a pass rusher early and as a bonus we’d have an extra couple of high draft picks for 2027.

There’s also the scenario that they let Dallas walk, take the dead cap hit now but wait to trade AJ until after June 1.

As you can see everything’s connected. Let Goedert walk, can’t trade AJ now, re-sign Goedert and we have enough cap space to aborb the A.J. hit, trade AJ post June 1 and we can make a move for Greenard. Mix in your preference for draft compensation this year or the next and it’s clear this is a pretty complex puzzle for Howie to solve. Make one move and it’ll effect other things you’d like to do.

That’s why Howie is waiting to make moves. He knows that if he trades AJ before the draft, he needs the cap space to take the hit and has to rely on the draft to fill albeit all of our holes but he also knows his leverage and AJ’s trade value probably won’t get any higher than right now.

If I’d have to guess Howie re-signs Goedert, trades AJ post June 1 for a 2nd and 3rd in 2027, trades one of our 3rd rounders this year for Greenard and uses his first 3 picks on OL, WR and a S or TE. Ohhh…and I can see him signing a veteran WR like Cooks or Kirk next week…

Ray - maybe it's clear, but going into the draft with a list of must haves is not the way to go. I'm surprised and disappointed in Howie. Even witha Grenard move we'll need a starting safety and a WR3 and we'll have to pass on replacing Lane again.

It is what it is, Rob. That’s what you get if you draft well and are cap strapped. I’m not dissapointed at all. He’s doing exactly what I thought he’d do.

I think we’re in good shape if we trade for Greenard, sign a vet WR and use our first 3 picks on Lane’s heir (Blake Miller please), a WR like Chris Brazzell II and a safety like Haulcy, Moore, Clark, Taaff, Wheatley or Ramsey.
