This assumes two things. Firstly that we trade AJ and secondly that he is still unsigned when we do.

If that is the case, to me he seems the obvious short term replacement for Brown. Not as good - but solid starter.

If we truly want to contend this year, I don’t see how we can go into the season with Smith/Hollywood and what we currently have if we trade AJ. I don’t really see any plug in and play rookies at 23 or lower and ideally we want to go OL/DL early.

Interesting that he's still out there - seems to produce when needed; must be holding out for bigger money but should be careful overplaying his hand given the upcoming draft might take some teams off the market.

It's unclear exactly why the 49ers and no other teams are interested in him yet, but it might have something to do with his price tag and injury history. Jennings was projected to receive a three-year, $67.84 million contract this offseason, per Spotrac, despite never eclipsing 1,000 yards in a season. His best year was 2024, where Jennings caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns. Jennings added another nine scores in 2025.

The five-year pro hasn't been able to play consistently, though. He's missed at least two games in each of the past two seasons and only played in 13 games in 2024. Jennings battled through injuries throughout his time in San Francisco which, while admirably, certainly affected his ability to make players throughout the course of a game.

Jennings will more than likely sign elsewhere before the 2026 season begins. But if we take Lynch's words for what they are, that team won't be the 49ers.
