July 26Jul 26 Author i have been watching build shows for 35+ years (PBS) and FYI videos for 10+; this guy nails every reason we're all getting turned off by DIYer$ lately.Starts off small and simple projects anyone can handle then as viewership grows, you see the same home improvement projects from youtube channel to youtube channel (ie. miter saw table, giant french clete wall storage, cross cut sleds....) then more viewers and it's on to product placement, then more viewers and projects become building literal business (warehouse sized workshops), RV parks, .....)Finally, you're left with someone like Scott Walsh who's selling his big end tools, and going back to the basics to stay in tune with his viewers. and Chris at foureyes furniture who doesn't hide the fact he's making pieces way above your level but brings DIY videos to a zen atmosphere ....
July 28Jul 28 FWIW, WBGH put up every episode of The New Yankee Workshop up on youtube.Pretty much any DIY I watch anymore is either that or old episodes of This Old House/Ask This Old House. Even the newer episodes of TOH aren't as good because they don't focus as much on the building that they used to. IDGAF about some ornate, small stained glass beekeeping business where ever they're fixing the house up.
