Eagles Punishment for Hurts Situation

Featured Replies

Are we going to lose a ton of draft picks? This is awful. The team is awful and can't do anything as is, and now ruining our future? Thank you front office idiots. What does Dave Sparado say about this?

If the Eagles let him get on a plane knowing he had a blood clot they should receive punishment.

Hurts should have been put on blood thinners the second they knew he had a clot. But the NFL dictates that if a player takes blood thinners they can’t play for 3 months.

Life and death decisions were made.

I don't see any reason for punishment. He was obviously cleared to fly and they were making sure he wasn't sleeping in the plane and was "moving" as necessary to keep up blood circulation as a precaution. Why should it be my business to be all mad at the Philadelphia Eagles for something that doesn't involve me?

.. and if we really want to be mad just because he flew in a luxury jet after being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot, then we should blame the NFL for scheduling games outside the lower 48.

The medical advice was to keep him moving which is why he played. They explained that last week. The eagles are fine

Not to get political, but does anyone think the quality of the socialized medicine they have over there might have played a role?

a guy I sit next to at work was stationed in England as a contractor, and he said that absolutely played a role.

regardless of what happened or didn't happen, unless Jalen comes out and just blantantly throws someone under the bus this will all wash away within the news cycle in the next few days.

You both bring up an excellent point regarding games outside the US. I’m assuming they have their own team doctors that traveled with them, but access to medical tech and other healthcare lacks in some countries. Who exactly cleared him to play? Was it team Doctors or the hospital? We won’t ever know that answer I’m sure. I think the NFL needs to pay close attention to this and do a hard look at player safety as it relates to games in other countries where players may actually be at a greater risk. The sad news is that they don’t actually care about player safety, they care about the 10s of millions of dollars they made playing that game, and the billions they make annually from the games played overseas. It’s a joke.

And think about this - Jalen took a hit on the sidelines and the nfl independent spotter took him out of the game for his safety. And the team docs held him up in the blue tent to delay a quick return, because ya know, they care. But you’re telling me that they don’t care enough to hold him out of the London game? Then even when you knew what was going on didn’t care enough to keep him in London and not expose him to greater risk flying home? You’re telling me you care about player safety? GTFOH!

The nfl is just as much to blame as the Eagles in this honestly. They don’t care about anything except the money.

Can we now refer to the Brotherly Shove as shoving someone's ass on a plane with a medical issue knowing they could die at any moment? Oh and still lose the game lol.

Time to lock this one up.

lmao this is the equivalent of the LAPD internal affairs clearing the police department of any wrong doing.

Stop sending football players on transatlantic flights.

The NFL investigated itself and found nothing wrong. News at 10.

Do you guys know why flying is generally considered a risk? Because for average joes, like you and me, the seating is cramped, they want you to remain in your seat as much as possible, and the air is a little thinner depending on the pressurization used (which I think is typically what you would find at about 8000'). That's why an average joe should check with his doctor first. Well, the team had physicians on the jet, has their own jet with more comfortable seating, can set the pressure to mimic a lower elevation, and even has oxygen that they can administer, thus eliminating virtually all the "risk" that flying could cause. Let's just leave Jalen in London for 3 months to make a few people that want to gripe about stupid things happy.

Holy crap ...

Even if a player took a bus from a west coast city to a midwest city, he would inevitably have the same thinner air you would have on a commercial flight while you rode through the rocky mountains. On top of that, you would be stuck in a seat for a longer period of time. I guess we could have hired a speed boat so Jalen could wake board all the way home so he could breathe sea level oxygen and not be stuck sitting. Or ... we could fly him home with the team on their own jet, administer oxygen as necessary while the team doctors watch him.

Get ... over ... it ...

The medical experts on this board is the equivalent to ALL the Facebook lawyers out there, you know nothing that was actually happening in real time

and who was there making ANY and ALL determinations. You're all the same people puking in the parking lot, arguing over parking and tailgate changes and yelling pass the damn ball after a run that fails

and run the ball after a pass that fails.

Agree. Nobody outside of North America gives a $hit about football. They pretend they do but when you press them (talking about euros mostly) for knowledge they just look at you dumbfounded.

Well, excuse us! If anything we have to work harder for our enjoyment because we choose this as a hobby, it's not drip-fed to us from a young age

Who specifically is the "us" in your post? And ftr I've spent four years of my life living in Germany so I know a bit about this.

On a side note I follow Chelsea of the EPL, but I don't even remotely pretend to know how anything works in the league in terms of who's who or transactions.

We;;, I'm a European and I'm been a fan since Randall, and more seriously since about 2003. I don't understand the cap, but I do understand the game. I think my ball knowledge is decent enough. I wanted to defend those of us Europeans who know ball. We aren't all casuals

Get ... over ... it ...

I understand the purpose Not flying with a clot perfectly well. Sure you can get up and move about much easier, which is one of the biggest risks of flying and being cramped up and having blood pool up etc. and yeah he had an advantage over average joes to get up and move and all that. But that still does not dismiss the potential risk for that reason and others you mentioned. He didn’t need to stay there for 3 months but there was certainly risk no matter how small in flying back right away let alone playing in the game to begin with. I’m a die hard fan too but I’m sorry they all Fed this entire situation up.

I think Canada has private medicine for those that can afford it. Is the same true of the U.K? AFAIK they didn't know he had more than the 'superficial' blood clot in his leg. They didn't know about clots in his lungs. They involved medical professionals outside the Eagles organization and they agreed with the Eagles course of action. Hindsight is often 20/20.

Goodell is involved now and i saw on Espn's page he welcomes an investigation. Team is fine. Dont mess with Goodie boy lolol

LOL… We’re not some 3rd world crap*y outpost in the middle of nowhere…. The care that Jalen Hurts received regarding his blood clot issue has become a matter of debate in the US. His initial consultation was in London at The Cleveland Clinic. For information this is a private, for profit hospital and outpatient facility owned and operated by the U.S. based Cleveland Clinic health system therefore not part of the NHS.
