Are the Eagles Becoming a Dysfunctional Organization?

Featured Replies

I'm talking about the entire organization, not just the football team.

Let's list some things that make me ask this question...

The way they handle injuries...this includes Jurgens and Dickerson, allowing them to play when they're clearly hurt. Paying Jurgens after knowing he had a significant back issue only to trade him away a year later. And now the Hurts blood clot debacle. The team deserves the heat they're getting regarding their handling of that...which includes just putting Nick Kotite out there to address the situation. The team has changed medical staffs many times...why is that?

Howie's handling of the roster this year, headlined by trading for Dalton and keeping 4 QBs.

High profile coaching candidates always bypass the Eagles dating all the way back to the year we hired Pederson. This includes potential OC's as well. Granted, the unknowns of Pederson and Sirianni won super bowls, but I'm talking about the process of how/why we ended up with these guys while the bigger names aren't interested.

Multiple abrupt player retirements. I mean, each one may have had their own reasons, but have you seen any other team have as many sudden retirements as the Eagles have had the past few years? Jaire Alexander, Myles Jack, Devante Parker, Zadarius Smith, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, and Lane Johnson. Just seems odd...as if (besides Lane) these guys got here and were like, nah, no thanks, I'm out.

The way this team just falls apart after winning a super bowl. It's not just a step back, a slight struggle because it's hard to maintain...this team just collapses.

I don't actually think this organization will be like the perpetually bad franchises out there...Cleveland, Tennessee, Miami, the Jets, etc. But damn, things have basically been garbage since 2024.

well the good news is that nobody the division wants to win a game so that is still in play. And honestly would be hilarious if we could pull that off somehow.

The Dysfunction seems to be coming from the Eagles Medical Staff who don't have to in front of the media and explain their medical decisions.

If he had a superficial blood clot in his leg after being cleated did they do a full body scan to find out if he had more than one blood clot?

Who cleared him medically to play against Jacksonville?

Did Jalen say he was ready to go despite being sleep deprived?
Did anyone object to him playing?

There are so many unanswered questions at this time. And Siriani's press conference yesterday was a disgrace. Where were the doctors?

We have reached the reset point like we did in 2020 (2 years after winning the SB) ... the trajectory is almost identical. Once again we have an offense that is complete trash (back then it was Groh ... now Mannion, although part of the latter is certainly attributed to the injuries, but there is more to it than that ... he clearly needed a couple more years cutting his teeth coaching at this level before being handed an offense to coordinate). It is now Howie time to rebuild this roster and find the right guy to lead us to Lombardi #3!

Yeah it’s not a total disaster of an organization. But there have been some strange things happening lately.

Like time2 said above, it’s "reset” time for the team, the coaches, the players, the scheme, EVERYTHING.

We’re probably going to need a new DC, OC, QB, OLine Coach, at least 3 new OLmen, a new TE and Safety room……yeesh. 😬🙏😆

Yeah, eerily similar. I agree about Mannion...it's just ashame that there is a built-in excuse of injuries that, to be sure, have certainly impacted the performance of the offense. Namely, the OL. If the OL stinks, it doesn't matter who the coach is. At the same time, there seems to have been zero adjustments to compensate.

Nothing like a seriously bad year to light a fire under Howie's arse to get things going again, though.

OL will be the biggest priority by a mile.

I imagine if Sirianni sticks around, there's a chance Fangio stays. If Siri gets fired, Fangio will be gone and an entirely new staff coming in.

I neither agree nor disagree with the initial premise, I'm somewhat on the fence. However, there is something seriously weird going on with the medical staff. I know teams get injuries but this has been spectacularly bad, especially the offensive line the last two years. Jalen should never have flown to London, that's downright malpractice. And I don't recall seeing an injury report with - what was it? - 16 players?

The injury issue is really odd because we all knew that Cam and Landon STUNK last season. They then go, in the off season, to ANOTHER country for…….frickin stem cell therapy/replacement?????? And the Eagles and the medical staff clear them to play this season??? And both players are still injured and cannot move. But let’s have them in the starting lineup. WTF???? That’s on Howie, the Coaches, Lurie??? Despicable.

I think there were 24 players on last week’s injury report. 24. Twenty four. 24. Two four. 24. ☹️🤔🏈

24? That's way more than I even thought

I agree WAY too many strange things happening and very eerily similar to what happened in 2020...its as if its almost scripted...

But no, that would be ridiculous, right??

It’s ok though. We are "re-setting”. Super Bowls in 2028 and 2030!!

I can wait. I have patience.

It’s just been such an odd season. And it’s only Week 6. The Eagles Soap Opera for 2026 has just started!!!

Welp there it is.

NFL reportedly will not punish Eagles for their handling of Jalen Hurts' blood clot

The Philadelphia Eagles received plenty of criticism after allowing quarterback Jalen Hurts to play in Week 5 despite knowing he was dealing with a blood clot in his calf. But after a review of the situation, the NFL reportedly does not feel that criticism was warranted.

The league reportedly found that the Eagles handled the situation "appropriately," per The Athletic. Because of that, the team will not face punishment for their approach with Hurts, who is now expected to miss the rest of the 2026 season after multiple blood clots were discovered in his lungs.

The Eagles came under fire Monday after revealing the full extent of Hurts' situation. In a joint statement, the team and Hurts' agent announced the quarterback was dealing with multiple blood clots in his lungs and would miss time while the issue was treated with blood thinners.

That news prompted some to reconsider Hurts' injury timeline, and led to questions about the Eagles' approach to a very serious medical issue.

When Hurts took the field for the team's Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, the Eagles knew the quarterback was dealing with a blood clot in his calf. Despite that, the team allowed Hurts to play in the game. It then allowed him to travel back to the United States to be evaluated later that week.

The Eagles placed Hurts on the injury report ahead of Week 5 with a calf injury, though did not give him an injury designation for the contest. The NFL reportedly agreed that was the right call, per The Athletic, as Hurts' reps weren't expected to change despite the issue.

Hurts was able to practice without restriction Wednesday, but a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the blood clot, leading to the team ruling Hurts out for Week 6. In the team's statement announcing Hurts would miss Week 6, it said it was in constant communication with the NFL before Hurts played in Week 5.

I thought everything was a disaster and the team was the worst ever after the Chip fiasco; 2 seasons later they win the SB.

I thought it was going to take a very long time to be contenders again after the Wentz disaster; 2 seasons later they win the SB.

We've felt like this a couple of times over the past decade and Howie/Lurie have managed to get things right. I trust them.

Bigger name coaches don't want to come to Philadelphia because of Howie, he calls the important shots......who's drafted, who makes the team, and who starts.

Think about it, what organization in their right mind would've hired Sirianni and Mannion??

What GM would have drafted a WR with their first pick when their OL had 2 crippled players?? It was no-brainer to draft safety and OL with their first 2 picks......in any order!!

BTW, Lurie is included along with Howie, he's the guy hiring unqualified coaches and cover for Howie's draft f-ups by bodering on salary cap hell every year because he has to dip into free agents every year.

Please, no 2 superbowls, it's not that hard when your division is weak.........that's how NE won so many, the AFC East was weak every year they won a SB.

Ok, your post sounds like you write for the Philly media.......making subtle accusations and stirring the pot when there is little there.

The way they handle injuries: Players play hurt all the time. The decision to play a player dealing with an injury lies with the player, the medical staff, the trainers and the coaching staff. And these players represent a significant investment by the team......so "allowing" them to play is not a decision taken lightly. The medical staff and trainers makes decisions on examinations and tests AND what the player is telling them. The player and his agent AND the coaches decide based on the medical evaluation.

To say the eagles put them out there without regard to the medical info and the player's agreement is ridiculous. Eagles have shown that they take plenty of time to bring back injured players in the past.

The Blood clot debacle: Again the media is driving the narrative that the eagles ignorantly put Hurts at risk. Medically he was cleared, Hurts agreed to play....and the NFL, who loves to fine teams, found no fault in the way the eagles handled it. Hurts has not come out and condemned the team or the medical staff. Everybody (fans and media) acts like they know about blood clots and the prognosis......again, Hurts is a huge investment for this team. Why would they put his overall health at risk unless the medical staff cleared him?

High profile coaching candidates: The eagles are not a knee jerk organization. They prefer to take their time and vet coaching prospects. They may provide parameters to coaches that many coaches find too restrictive. Many established coaches want more say or more power in player selection and when the eagles gave that to Reid after the NFC championship games and Super Bowl, it didn't work out well.......neither did it when chip Kelly got GM responsibilities. So they do it their way, and they've won 2 of 3 Super Bowl appearances.

Player retirements: The players you pointed out were all at the end of their careers......and some of them had other personal issues that influenced their decision when the intensity of another NFL season became too much. And maybe they realized they weren't going to get the playing time they thought.

You seem to ignore the many players that have signed here over the last few years who have signed 2nd contracts...... There's no mysterious thing going on there.....

They didn't fall apart after super bowls: The eagles encountered what all Super Bowl teams do......the loss of good coaches due to success and the loss of players that the team simply can't afford under the salary cap....it happens to all of them......and the eagles unfortunately replaced good offensive coordinators with inexperienced ones that were disasters. The offensive side of the ball is where most of their problems weighed on the team.

So no, they are not dysfunctional.......winning constantly each year in the NFL is really difficult. Some unpopular decisions become great and some other decisions can become a mess. What matters is what a front office does to make the team competitive going forward. And Roseman and Lurie have done a good job even though it may be painful to watch on those seasons where some things just don't work out as hoped.

Chip kelly was the only high profile coach lurie ever hired. Andy reid became high profile but he wasn't either when he was hired.

Lmao so one bad season makes us the jets or dolphins or charger or cardinals? Come on now. Even the almighty KC Kermits had a bad year last year and are now back smokin fools

People are going overboard with the blood clot issue. crap happens. And you are telling me the

Eagles didn't have Hurts best interests at heart? You listen to too much sports talk radio bullsheeeiit.
We are at the point where everything needs to change. And a NEW Eagles football era unfolds. Lurie

knows how to swing this. So does Howie- and THAT is what is just what is going to happen- a NEW ERA

of Eagles football is coming. Get ready.

Is there concern that Howie and Jeff are too meddling? That they want a puppet head coach.

If that is the case they will never attract the top candidates and we will be forced to accept the latest "up and coming" HC candidate, they struck lightning in a bottle with Reid and then with Doug (for a time)

Perhaps they still feel burned by the Chip Kelly fiasco, either way, if you want the top guys to come to you, you can't expect that they will succumb to your demands. In this last round of OC interviews, weren't there a couple of guys that refused to even interview?

Jeff and Howie need to let the HC be the HC and pick their staff as they see fit.
