Eagles vs. 49ers Final Injury Report: DeSean Jackson OUT, Jason Peters questionable

 

Week 4 game updates.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their third and final official injury report on Friday in advance of their Week 4 game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Four players were ruled OUT: DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Avonte Maddox, and Trevor Williams.

Jackson missed the entire week of practice due to a hamstring injury. With Jackson out and Jalen Reagor on injured reserve, the Eagles are missing their top two deep threats. Great.

Jeffery still isn’t ready to play. He might be able to return in Week 5 (season saved).

Maddox and Williams being out means ... we don’t know exactly who starts on the outside across from Darius Slay. Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and Cre’Von LeBlanc are the only three healthy cornerbacks on the roster right now. The team could look to elevate undrafted rookie free agent signing Michael Jacquet from the practice squad.

One player was ruled DOUBTFUL: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.

JJAW missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday before being limited on Friday. Maybe the Eagles will be able to get him back for Week 5 (woohoo!) but he doesn’t appear ready to play against the 49ers. That means the Eagles are currently down to two healthy receivers on their roster: Greg Ward and John Hightower (who returned from missing Thursday’s practice due to illness). The Eagles could also look to activate Quez Watkins in addition to elevating Deontay Burnett (and Travis Fulgham?) from the practice squad. Just another game in Carson Wentz’s career where he’s really lacking help at receiver. He’s also obviously missing Dallas Goedert with the third-year tight end being placed on IR earlier this week.

To recap the potential receiver and tight end situations:

WR — Greg Ward, John Hightower, Deontay Burnett, Travis Fulgham, Quez Watkins

TE — Zach Ertz, Richard Rodgers

One player was ruled QUESTIONABLE: Jason Peters.

Peters missed Wednesday and Thursday practices due to illness. He was limited on Friday with a foot issue. If the Eagles’ starting left tackle can’t suit up, the Birds will potentially be starting Jordan Mailata in his place.

Miles Sanders was full on Friday after being limited the past two days.

Rudy Ford is set to return after missing last week’s game; he was full go on Friday. Good news for special teams.

Fletcher Cox missed Friday’s practice due to personal reasons.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS INJURY REPORT (FRIDAY)

The 49ers are officially starting Nick Mullens at quarterback, as expected, with Jimmy G out. He’s quite capable of leading San Fran to victory.

The 49ers’ secondary situation isn’t looking so great, as explained by our friends from Niners Nation:

I figured Moseley would be cleared from the concussion protocol by now, but it hasn’t happened. K’Waun Williams was rehabbing on the site as he continues to work through a hip injury. Cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon was rehabbing as well as he has a hamstring injury. We could be staring at a starting secondary Sunday night of Jason Verrett, Dontae Johnson, and Jamar Taylor. That’s...not ideal. If either of those cornerbacks goes down, the 49ers have Ken Webster, who the team recently signed. Tim Harris has played during garbage time the past couple of weeks and would be the next man up. If you knew these were the possibilities in August, you’d think the 49ers season was a lost cause.

George Kittle and Deebo Samuel are returning to action this week. That’s bad news for the Eagles’ defense.

Deary me... Good job Howie. Real good job. 

Let's go in to the season relying on Desean staying healthy, Jeffery coming back early and contributing, a second year rookie who looked awful last year developing nicely. 

Let's go in to the season with 3 outside CBs.

Well obviously JP is now out since he was placed on IR.  Get ready for Mailata time!  We’re going to make a lot of fans happy .... either those that want to see if the last 3 years spent developing him paid off OR those that want to see Hurts (if the former doesn’t pan out and he gets Wentz killed! ).

Start Mills at corner and play Wallace more at safety. It's time to see what he has, we aren't winning anything this year.

If they had a young guy to play a team corner I'd go that route but we have older guys there with Maddox out.

I'd agree with that to be honest. I actually think if you scheme correctly, Mills can be a decent #2 opposite Slay.

Yup. He’s basically been covering the number one wr with little to no help over the top. Slay now shadows the number one guy so that leaves mills on the number two or worse. Make it so he haves over the top help so when he bites on double moves we don’t get burned and it should be a decent secondary.

Bingo. They can actually now scheme to get Mills help over the top. To protect him against his weakness because actually with that help? I think he'd be a pretty good corner.
