So you just take a 60 million dollar cap hit? Don't think so.

You pay him to be an expensive backup next season unless you can swindle Indy into a trade. Then cut him after next season.

Would it be that much? If the compensation is right, might happen.

Yeah I've seen Carson take massive hits on TD passes before but nice try.

Not this year. And don’t move the goalposts. I replied to you saying he did nothing beyond 5 yards downfield. Eat the L on your statement being wrong or eat a D, I don’t care which.

Overall, I'd say Hurts had an average day at QB. Considering it was his first NFL start, I'd say it was a good day for him. Positives were seeing the field, buying time and throwing it away when he had to, running vertically when nothing was there, and making throws for the most part with good accuracy. Negatives were a few bad throws, 1 fumble, and 1 pass that should have been picked but for a drop by the CB. Still, for a first time outing, it was good.

I agree with this analysis. As a whole it was an ok QB performance, but considering this is a 2nd round rookie without the traditional OTA and training camp experience making his first start against a very good Saints team and a top defense, it was certainly a good game, expectations considered.

Plus, the Saints always have our number when we play them. This is the first time the Eagles beat the Saints in a long time. Very happy with what I saw overall from Hurts.

The fumble was an almost costly rookie mistake and I have noticed a little tendency to do one read and then run,  rather than going through all the progressions on some of the plays. The almost INT was another example, but also just good defense by the CB. These are coachable things as long as Hurts approaches them with the right attitude.

Hurts first start destroyed McNabb first start vs the Cowboys.

Mcnabb was 110 yard passing, 60 rushing and 1 td ? Hoping Hurts can replicate a bit of No.5 career wise except for the Superbowl bit

Donovan's first start was against the Redskins.

Full game as a starter ?

I meant as the starter for the Eagles, we'll keep him as a backup until we can unload him.

He will be back. RBs playing QB get figured out fast. Why I don't like them. I like a true QB. I know I know the trend is run first pass only if needed QBs.

Do you really think they cut him? LOL

He will get traded if anything. I see zero chances he just gets flat out cut.

Based on his history, and many interviews I’ve watched, I don’t see that being an issue.

Great team win.

Hurts played pretty smart, unless he do something like Peterman did with the Bills, I think he will start for the reminder of the season.
Can't talk about next year, since I think it's impossible to trade Wentz; but it's probably not convenient for us either. I'm not ready to give up on him, he definitely played bad (a little bit more than bad) this year and Jalen earned the chance to play, but I still think that with the right personnel on the sideline, Wentz could bounce back. Don't know if at 2017 level, but definitely a starting caliber QB in the league.

I think hurts navigated the pocket better than Wentz, when hurts moves in the pocket it's with more efficient purpose and he's in a position to throw or run, Wentz in the pocket avoiding the rush looks like he's on meth, he drops his hands drops his eyes his movements are herky jerky, he doesn't slide in the pocket.

Go watch someone like marino, guy wasnt a runner but his feet sliding in and out of the pocket were elite, a simple side step and step up in the pocket coupled with a lightning quick release made him deadly.

Carson has a slower release and when  he steps up or slides in the pocket he's not in a position to throw he's just avoiding the rush.

Hurts didn't take any sacks, he slides away from pressure in the pocket even when he rolls out away from pressure he's still in throwing position, Wentz takes a half an hour to get in throwing position sliding in and out of the pocket.

Will be telling to see if hurts can improve game to game or defenses figure him out.

For someone who doesn't care you seem to care a whole lot.

If it was financially feasible to cut him after the season he'd be on a plane to North Dakota at that time.

How was it compared to Wentz's first ever start vs the Browns? LOL

Lets not compare Hurts to McNabb and hope he can replicate McNabb. It will be many years of disappointment since we dont have Jim Johnson and his defense on this team.

So now a bigger issue presents itself, and it's a BIG issue. By watching this game, I saw a team that WILL rally around a certain QB, and a team that will NOT rally around another certain QB. I'm talking offense and defense- the entire team. The entire team was different tonight. That's some serious shi* right there. It makes me wonder what the deeper issue is when they are all in the locker room, behind the scenes. Just typing/thinking out loud here.

Yeah, but let's be honest here, they caught the Saints at the perfect time in the schedule for the Saints to be half stepping this week. Also, when they did bring pressure, they nullified Hurts. They just didn't bring it that much. Still, Hurts did pretty good given what he was asked to do and given what he had to work with. I'm not overly excited, but he could develop into a good NFL QB. Time will tell.

They actually think that they will just go oh well let's pay him 35 mil to sit on the bench lol. Carson is going to be given ever opportunity to start next year no matter what Hurts does right now.

But it's not. And because of that he will be given ever opportunity to start next year.

Most if not all teams get a natural boost when teams go to their backup QBs the telling thing will be if that boost remains for an entire season.  Or will hurts be like Foles and Fitzpatrick get a short term boost but at the end fail and that is the reason why players like Foles and Fitzpatrick can keep a job

Yeah. If they have Drew Brees playing for them, I think they lay a 40 burger on this Eagles team. Hill isn't a QB. He's a TE pretending to be a QB. Time will tell with Hurts. It's way too early to decide anything about him other than he's a rookie for 3 more weeks.

The girl from Vandy wouldn’t miss that kick.

Eagles need 2 kickers. Girl from Vandy for kicks less than 30 yards, Jake Elliot for over 30 yards.

I agree with what I've seen so far.

Then again Wentz once seemed like a fairly humble guy, until he started to struggle and failed to accept accountability for his poor play; "I know I need to do better but I will not change the way I play the game".

Hurts did an excellent job of answering questions from the Philly media about his start against the Saints when the news first broke out. Hoping he continues to stay humble, once he achieves more success in the league.

3 minutes ago, EagleVA said:

Not going to argue with that and I think part of that is because hurts seems to know how to navigate the pocket and manipulate it better than Wentz.

Sure people will make the jackson comparisons but watching jackson he doesn't really navigate the pocket, he's a better athlete than hurts  and has a stronger arm but much like Wentz he doesn't efficiently move within the pocket. He's elite out side of it and hurts isn't exactly an elite pocket passer but passing from the pocket and moving in the pocket are different skills and I think hurts shows more awareness moving around the pocket with purpose to throw than Wentz.

The game plan today matched the situation. There was no reason to try something else when what we did worked just fine. Hurts would be asked to throw more moving forward and his decisions today were pretty good.

I think Wentz' 2020 season is the "anomaly." I don't feel he should have been benched. I don't think, once that move is done, the team can ever go back to him as the franchise QB  without getting rid of the HC (Doug) and the replacement (Hurts). That is my opinion. The Eagles have to find a way to move him after this season. The contract could be a challenge. But put in the right situation, Wentz could once again compete for MVP. Wentz is one of my favorite players, but the only path to remaining an Eagle for him that I see, would be a major injury to Hurts, the Eagles somehow ending up in the playoffs this season, and Wentz winning a postseason game by playing at his 2017 level.

Fair points. However Wentz's contract is quite prohibitive whether he's traded/cut or kept for another year due to the cap hit and potential cap penalty if moved.

If Hurts and Reagor continue to shine, that might unfortunately help save Howie Roseman from getting fired for consistently poor drafting
