Bitcoin Developer ^

Gotta be honest, this story is pretty unbelievable. How can someone be intelligent enough to hack the pipeline and make what is such a simple error in regards to storing their Bitcoin? It truly doesn't add up

Not sure. The hackers biggest mistake is storing the bitcoin on the same server. They should have kept moving the money around to keep it from being confiscated. As I understand, bitcoin transactions take place in public, so it's really not too difficult to trace. The hard part is figuring out the group's private key to know how to seize it. I think either FBI infiltrated the group, or somebody within the group was too careless to let FBI find them.

The hackers still have about half of the ransom money, so they were smart enough to keep some of it moving around.

If they were smart or competent we would still be trying to figure out who they are.

Luxury cars and $100 bills: Police bust ransomware gang in Ukraine

The bust comes as ransomware has gone from a quietly pervasive cybersecurity problem to a broadly discussed national security issue.

Quote

The gang, known as Cl0p, has hacked a number of American targets, including the University of Miami, Florida, Stanford University, University of Maryland, and University of Colorado, demanding a payment to either keep their systems functional or to not publish material they were able to steal.

Who they are?  You mean you don't know??

They are The World Economic Forum running the "Problem, Reaction, Solution" scam that will rob us of our freedom, they intend to enslave us all.

Find out what's in store.

We got the holiday out of they way. I'm certain congress is all over this. 👍

Americans should be on the lookout for increased cyberattacks, because of the Russian conflict.

Most Americans are so lacking in basic computer understanding, that you don't need to hack them. Send them an email telling them they won.

You will have name, address, birth date and probably SSN if you ask  for it.

Every week we deal with another idiot who refuse to take even the most basic precautions.

"Oooh, an email from ADP. I better click the link and put in my user name and password. Let me save that attachment and double click it too!!" <- company that does not use ADP

Russians should be on the alert for cyber attacks. There should be attacks on their financial and energy systems.

You never fail to abandon the moral high ground.

How can you sit there and protest something, by saying you would do exactly the same thing?

It's Cyberwarfare. I guess we should just sit back and do nothing, while Russia, China and N. Korea, Hacks us and Ukraine, because we don't want to lose the moral high ground.

In cyber war, you attack the enemy and try to defend against being attacked. But I guess you believe that's morally the wrong thing to do.

You are welcome to be a giant hypocrite. You are welcome to rail against Russian hacking, while demanding we do the same thing.

I’m pretty sure we have some covert things going on.

Of course we do.

We are not talking about covert things. The Russians are not trying to hide what they are doing. There are people all over the world watching Internet traffic all the time. The Russians and North Koreans, knowing nothing can really be done to shut them down short of invasion, will continue to not give a rat's ass about hiding their tracks (most of the time) since it only adds to their perceived (and sadly real) power.

The Chinese tend to be stealthier.

I'm a Regional Sales Manager for a software company and in 2020 I switched from selling cloud migration software to data protection.....  Needless to say, it's been a busy few weeks.

The water supply in Aliquippa, PA was breached by Iranian hackers.

If you have ever had to work with any parts of our infrastructure; power, water, oil, etc, you would be amazed at the complete lack of security awareness in their IT.

A local refinery has EVERY single PLC in the plant connected to the Internet, because a vendor needed remote access to a system, and each and every system uses a simple password you could easily guess.
