November 26, 2024Nov 26 Do you know what I love, as I clean up from mowing and picking up all the leaves? Watching more great big oak leaves rain from the sky. Nature is mocking me.
December 1, 2024Dec 1 Trying to finish up getting back to normal. Have some touch up to do but I’d rather enjoy the holidays and worry about that when it’s late February with not much to do until opening weekend at the cottage in May.
December 4, 2024Dec 4 Little story about the mushroom plate. I cleaned out and removed a metal cabinet from the basement when the oil tank got changed out. I found 2 of these plates. I read the back of it and looked up the company that made it. Seems they would take your photos and make plates. There was a number and a place on their web site to look it up, and I found this was made in 1963. Not sure who took the photos, but they are of my grandfather/father's farm. Not sure how many were made. I was given 4 or 5. Also of interest was to find out I am older than the plate!!

April 27Apr 27 Tin from IL behind the stove and a little glam of a new light. I decided I’m too old to be climbing and cleaning ceiling fan blades and light globes. Now just have to get brother here to figure a new way to wire up the dishwasher. Township inspector didn’t pass the extension cord on the floor hook up. Son brought over a scrap piece of counter to put between the stove and wall where I used to have the dishwasher plugged in. Going to cottage Mothers Day to open up. Surely I’ll be back.
April 27Apr 27 Upon further inspection I don't like just the tin backsplash. There is no exhaust fan here and I have no patience to figure one out electrically. Or spend my money on one. Here's a scrap piece of peel and stick tile I put behind the sink/under window sill-so maybe just go get some more and take this up to the ceiling, and also some on the left wall up high? I also have this piece of treated wood I could have son trim it out. I don't know. Would appreciate your thoughts even if it's to put the glass down and clean up the mess! Find another hobby.
May 16May 16 The lone mushroom plate wall has some company now with the latest addition of the 2 tier tray as my Mother's day gift. Still working on trimming out the backsplash behind the stove.
May 19May 19 Here's a few pics from down at the Bay. Opening up is going OK. You could tell a bird or birds got inside but there is no active nest going on in the unfinished soffits. Can't say the same for next door neighbor. They have a nest with babies. Hope they don't get inside. Our shower head froze and broke. You think I'd learn after replacing it every year I would just take the sucker off! It's still overwhelming the things left to do. It's almost impossible to get anyone to help due to the distance and not knowing what they might need. There are tools and materials there yet if you don't have something the closet Home Depot a good hour round trip. Been trying to get the son or anyone to hang a screen door on the back door. It's been in a box for 2 years! Wouldn't everything you need be in that box? This week I'm going to try 2 floor transitions -Its the sticky plastic stuff. Hang some more rope trim. Kinda unbelievable what I have done is still up, so may as well keep going. Just bought a table to go by the other window and can put the stools there. Daughter and son in law put together this couch for me. It suited the space, has a storage bin in the chaise and it also pulls out and can sleep 1 or 2 tiny people. Walmart special.

It's not that comfortable, but for a guest/spare room, it will be fine.Danrelax Faux Leather L Shaped Sofa with USB, Cup Holder and Hidden Storage Space, Grey - Walmart.com

June 4Jun 4 I don't see an active bird's nest in the soffit. I slept there this past weekend, and man are they noisy at 5am! It could be from next door. I think one was inside the cottage. Went up into the loft and put stuff anyplace they may be able to get in. Now I have heightened anxiety to get this place closed up. My son did say he will make a better effort. There's reflective tape and simple green in my amazon cart and I have been watching you tubes about birds in soffits. I'd say I'm about 2 or 3 weeks from losing it and giving up. Hoping for the best that I don't go back to find a mess, and that help arrives soon to get the soffits finished.I've managed to hang some rope in the middle room, put together a table and got rid of the wooden one that I didn't like except for the fact it was free. Owner said she'd take it off my hands. Put a couple thresholds down. Peel and stick, just my speed. Put some poly on a piece of beach wood I cured that is going to be a shelf. Son got the refrigerator doors flipped around so it will open to the sink/counter side and not the wall. ACs still need to get installed. ALMOST caught a shot of an eagle sitting on the beach early Monday morning. He was huge and so majestic! By the time I went for the phone he was gone. The beauty of the nature there is keeping me going.
June 20Jun 20 Work is letting us out at 2pm today. It would be a wonderful day to spray weeds but alas the daughter and son in-law are leaving for vacation tomorrow and I am watching their dog, so I better wait. Wouldn't want to hurt the dog. Went to Lowes this week and bought 2 new window ac units. One for the dog's room of course. With a heat wave coming going to split my workdays. Office in the am, work from home in the pm. next week. After the storm last night and about 6 hr. power outage the toilet started acting up. Flushing slow. Landlord has been working on fixing up an empty unit, so alerted him to check it out. It's one crazy set up where 4 units dump into a septic tank and then it gets pumped up to the street water. There's a filter in there and hopefully it just needs cleaned. One must keep on top of these people to do proper maintenance!Down at the bay last week, that toilet quit flushing. Had to use the one next door. Those people took from last Saturday me personally asking for their help to TODAY finally getting a text to say it's fixed. Jesus. Birds seem to be GONE! Took down Mr. Di's break last week and help came to put up soffit that's been there forever. Dealing with carpenter bees. Hope they are now dead in their holes. If not, guess who is going up on the ladder to finish them off for good! Son flipped the refrigerator doors around, and I found the freezer filled with ice. One of the helpers there I hope corrected it. Wish I could tell you just how many times nothing went right on the first try. It's very exhausting trying to care for 2 places. I'm getting too old. Looking forward to doing nothing this weekend except playing with the dog.
