I don't really see a problem with the minimum wage floor (the federal minimum wage number) being set at a number that is sufficient for low-income low-cost-of-living areas, while allowing state and local adjustments to bring the floor up to a more appropriate level for those locales. most cities already have minimum wage numbers well above the federal minimum wage, and even Florida has a statewide number exceeding the federal limit.

I can see right-sizing the number to around $10/hour, but $15 is simply not appropriate.

do the actual analysis. $10 would be more inline with historical heights of the federal minimum wage level.

I do not see minimum wage being some number where people are supposed to support a family. that's just a bollocks argument. it's the same argument that has turned social security, which is supposed to be a bare minimum safety net to keep the elderly from living on the streets, to having to be the retirement plan for too many Americans.

I admit, I'm not a fan of the Marilyn Monroe hair thing going on lately. but she's a fit, attractive, bi-sexual Arizona State University girl.

Aren’t they all like that?

This. A million times this. If you are working for minimum wage, you shouldn't have kids. It's time to reintroduce some personal responsibility.

Well, the workers better put the stuff on the trays correctly, because have you seen the customers?  They’re even dumber than the workers.

Us min wage absolutely belongs in the $15/hr range.  Especially when you factor in the fact inflation is already here and it won't get touched again for another 10-15 years.  That's a big hike so the best way to do it would be in phases, starting at $10 and raising it up to $15 by 2028 or so.

No, but it should be enough to pay rent with a room mate/pay for transportation where you live and go the movies once a month.  The current min wage isn't even decent pocket change.

If we're going to have a minimum wage, it should be pegged to inflation. I say it in this way because I don't want to get into a tangential argument with anyone about whether or not there should be any minimum wage. That's a completely different discussion.

The problem I think is that the minimum wage is a national number. $9-10/ hour is a good floor for a national minimum wage. It's only insufficient in particular regions that have higher costs of living.

What the minimum wage should NOT be, and never was intended to be, was a wage at which someone could live independently on, especially if they have dependents. That ISN'T what it is for.

Sure, cool.  But you can't treat it like it's for 10 yr olds doing paper routes to collect stamps either.  You've got 10 of millions of adults who gotta make their way on it.

What's driving this terrible inflation? Oh yeah, it's the government printing literally trillions of dollars a year to cover the never-ending expansion of the federal bureaucracy. Rather than addressing the root cause of inflation and actually coming up with a non-suicidal, sane budget, let's just pass along the cost of the inflation we're creating to businesses and consumers! Brilliant! And the small businesses that can't cover the cost? Eff em! Let them go under. The owner and former employees can just go on welfare that's paid for by printing more money!

Inflation is a necessary and healthy part of capitalism.  If anything it has been artificially brought down by gov't because we have been moving from crisis to crisis and we are currently in a correction.

I feel our village idiot doesn't truly understand what inflation really is or why it happens.

Wow, great news! We're on pace to be really, really healthy as a country in 20 years. Just have to hope the government keeps printing trillions more than it brings in in tax revenue.

It's a very difficult concept to grasp. Can you explain it?

Minimum wage should be a short term stop on the way to something better. If it's a career choice, choices have consequences.

I'm willing to subsidize other members of our shared society up to a point. And I don't want to see levels of exploitation that we've witnessed in past periods of our history. But a nation $15/he number makes no sense.

When I was a kid, you could get a soda pop for a nickle. Then the ishlibs printed money and now its a dollar.

Yes, the government spending trillions more than it brings in on a yearly basis causes inflation, you complete and utter moron. That you think inflation is some sort of difficult concept to understand is kind of incredible. That's what I get for responding to my reply guy. Lesson learned.

Why dont you stick your head up my butt and fight for 15 minutes of air?

Sky is falling -- watch out!   I guarantee that if $15.00 was implemented nationwide tomorrow -- the world would still be rotating.  Most businesses if they WANT to, would figure out how to survive.   I don't know what the correct # is -- but the dire predictions of imposing a higher wage are bogus.

Whenever someone is against proposed legislation they come up with all these doomsday warnings about what ifs, what will happen.  Has it ever really happened that way?    Literally the republicans painted the gloomiest dire picture if obamacare was passed/or not overturned.  Guess what, its still here, and we are basically fine; the scare predictions of the republicans didn't play out.  I'm sure the same thing would happen with $15.00.   Would SOME folks get laid off - probably.  Would some business go under - probably.  But the vast majority would be fine.   The scare tactics are BS.   Sky is falling run, the world will end if the guy at mcdonalds makes $15.00/ hour.   OMG.   This is why nothing gets done in this country.  Someone always raises BS scare predictions.
