Thanks Joe for Higher Gas Prices and Unemployment!

Is $3.89 a lot?  You see, I wouldn't know.  I drive an EV powered by clean, renewable energy.

I'd like to rename this thread to "Thanks Joe Biden for passing the IRA which gave me 30% off the price of my 20kWh solar system that will be used to power my home and my new Tesla which also had its price reduced $7500 thus allowing me to never have to pay for these awfully high gas prices ever again".

Its only a matter of time before he tells me I shouldn't have bought a Tesla as they are crap.  Sorry, but I cant see spending $100k for a Taycan.

It's a political stunt. Either side you're on, if you fall for it you're a rube.

Me watching everyone in here complain about gas prices as I cruise around in my leased Kia EV6

I just thought of something to help everyone else:

EV stands for Electric Vehicle.  Now I know what you are thinking; Well I have an EV too!  What do you think powers the lights?.  Common misconception.  You see, while traditional vehicles do use electricity in them, their primary source of fuel for propulsion is gasoline, some of which is turned into electricity through an alternator. An EV (Electric Vehicle) however uses no gasoline and it's primary source of fuel is electricity.

How long does it take the sun to charge that thing?

The bottleneck isn’t my solar generation. It’s being limited to a level 2 charger in a residence.  My solar array produces more energy than my home uses per hour, even with charging my car and having both ovens running on convection.

I hope that answers your question. Now maybe I can ask you one?

How long does an average trip to the gas station take?  Assuming it’s on the way and not that you’re driving around looking for one.   Because I spend about 3 seconds plugging my car in and 3 seconds unplugging it.

How many cars can you charge at once? Or would you have to move them around in order to charge them as necessary?

Easy fix....add a second charger if needed.  BUT, most people with two EVs can easily manage their charging to take into account two vehicles with only one charger, especially if they space them out over the week.

I only have 1 EV right now, so I have one L2 charger "installed".  (We put in a 240 outlet and have our portable charger mounted next to it))  Our other car is an Explorer, its paid off and has only about 45k miles on it, so we are keeping it for a while.

But when we go to replace it we will likely go electric.  By then I'm hoping the charging standard is settled and look into the options available.  It would not shock me if more charging solutions have two charging ports by then (there are some available today but none I trust) but if not, it's fairly easy to run wire the wire and hook up a second 240v outlet.

Already been down that road...

You can get a gal for 10-15 quid in Tottenham at the right hour.

I'm telling you right now it's not worth waiting in line at NHS.

How much did we subsidize your solar panels?

You only have to drive 35-40k miles at most to surpass the break even point.

EVs are far better for the environment than ICE.

Hybrids though are still overall better when looking at the full picture.
