I thought everyone was dead against him or at the very least the jury was very much out on him with some fans. Yes. Three points in Howie's favor: 1. It takes more than 1 person to mess up the selection and development of a draft pick. Howie deserves some blame for the drafts, but certainly not all of the blame. Doug's schemes, position coaches, etc. all deserve some blame here. Case in point: Agholor left and had a pretty darn good year in a different offensive scheme. You think maybe we have some talent here that wasn't being used correctly? 2. The cap is a mess, but that's because he was trying to 'keep the band together'. This team almost made back to back NFCCGs, so that was not a mistake. The bill for that is now coming due, and it's gonna take a few years to clean up that mess. It was a good thing to do, and he deserves no blame there either. 3. Howe was counting on the cap going up each year, as it usually does. This was an unprecedented year where the cap actually went DOWN quite a bit. That's unusual. Also, if Dak's contract is any indication, it could be that there's a massive TV deal coming to the NFL which will shoot the cap up. If that happens all cap woes will go away, and this 'dangerous game' that the author talks about becomes just clickbait. Time's yours.

I've said all along his primary focus needs to get the cap in the best situation possible this year at the expense of trying to be competitive in 2021 ... take the bigger hits THIS YEAR knowing it was going to be a down year to better position ourselves for 2022 and beyond. You can't do both (i.e. try to be minimally cap compliant this year at the expense of future years and rise to the level of the elite teams) with his strategy, especially since he can't draft to save his life. But my concerns are matched by my hope that should the team continue to struggle as a result of the mess he is making (as seems likely) that he gets the boot. HOWIE MUST GO!! Here's the thing, Howie is really just the current extension of Lurie (before Banner had that role). It would be better if the team hired a traditional GM, but so long as Lurie owns the club, that's not going to happen. Howie is not leaving unless Lurie finds somebody else who can serve as his surrogate.

I think he was also ranked 30th somewhere for his draft picks.

So he's 2nd for free agent signings, and recently ranked 7th for decision making. The article for his 30th ranking for draft results also stated he was low on draft capital, meaning he had less picks by trading them, which he needed to do to clean up the Kelly disaster and also to draft Wentz. His draft record is not good.....but I think there are other factors that philly fans and media simply want to ignore. The group think here is that he's a terrible GM.....but that's not shared around the league at all. He gave out some contracts that were applauded by the vast majority of fans, except Jeffrey's contract. Desean, Malik jackson, Brooks, Johnson, Wentz, and even Peters......a bunch of talented guys who either underperformed or were constantly getting hurt. and who f------ knew what would happen to Wentz? I've argued this for months on deaf ears......howie sucks, because everything thing else sucks when the eagles lose. But he's still here and he's going to be here for a while.....and it sure wouldn't surprise me if the eagles are competitive again soon.
