Posted March 8, 20214 yr https://theeagleswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/08/brandon-brooks-trade-rumors-philadelphia-eagles/Philadelphia Eagles have discussed potentially trading RG Brandon Brooks Glenn Erby March 8, 2021 8:25 am As the Eagles work to clear cap space, another big name on the offense is now at the center of trade rumors. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Eagles have also discussed trading three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks this offseason. "Eagles G Brandon Brooks: Among the NFL’s best guards before he got hurt, a torn Achilles cost him the 2020 season. But he was healthy enough to practice before the end of the year, and the 31-year-old is under contract the next four years for a reasonable $53.2 million, and just $10.5 million this year. There have been trade discussions here.” Brooks is still one of the top guards in the NFL And before tearing his Achilles last summer, he was coming off his third straight trip to a Pro Bowl. Brooks has a salary cap hit of just under $14.6 million, and the Eagles wouldn’t save much by trading him before June 1.

They’d save $2.3M on the 2021 cap but then would free up roughly $13M in cap space in 2022, $12M in 2023, and $13M in 2024.

No sense overpaying for vets that are on the decline but may still be good now ... they likely won't be when we are competitive again in 2-3 years. Brooks is one. Slay would have been another but they've already restructured his deal.

He will probably decline very quickly and they could’ve got some value for him this year. Maybe they could get back the 3rd they paid for him.
March 9, 20214 yr The Achilles injury likely precludes top compensation. Still, if it's about having $ free to build around Hurts over the next few years, it's a solid move. Just be sure to draft an IOL somewhere in the middle rounds in April.
March 10, 20214 yr Kinda surprised tbh. 2.3m saved is nothing really. Unless they feel he won't be 100%. He was arguably the #1 RG before injury.
