Eagles could be a trade destination for Nick Foles as Bears look to move on from QB

By Glenn Erby

Jalen Hurts needs a backup at quarterback and the Bears happen to have a guy on the roster that does a really good job of making starters feel comfortable.

According to John Clark via Jeremy Fowler, the Chicago Bears are looking to move on from Nick Foles after signing Andy Dalton to a one-year deal.

With the Eagles only having one quarterback on the roster and 11 picks in April’s NFL draft, Philadelphia could be a comfortable landing spot for Foles as he looks to continue his playing career.

Not trading a pick for BDN.  If he gets cut then sure he may make sense to sign.  But we’re going to have an entirely new offense now so not like he has familiarity with it.  The only thing he’ll have familiarity with are a few players and the weight room.

Bears save money if they can trade him, but it costs them money to cut him, so it makes more sense for them to just keep him. But they would send him to us for a seventh, so it makes sense for us to do that if we need a backup. But we only need a backup if we don't draft a qb at 6. So this might be a draft day deal.

In any event, I don't see us signing a backup until after we draft at 6, unless it is someone on a vet minimum deal with no money gtd.

What does his current contract pay him?  I thought it was like $8M.  I doubt we’ll want to invest that much in a backup considering our cap situation.

If they trade him we are only on the hook for $4 million the first year and $8 million the second, but none of it is gtd.

Nick is a SB MVP, a hero in Philly, has a freaking statue in front of the Linc, and is in the NFL record books and the HOF about a half a dozen times for crazy individual records that should last quite a while and have never been all held by one guy at the same time before. That guy should simply retire from pro football. After all, what more could he possibly accomplish?

Agree. All these guys look at Brady and think they can play into their 40s now.

I would hate to see Nick come back here and stink and end his career on a down note.

I'd rather see a "second tier" draft pick as a backup.  I doubt Nick will ever be worth more than he is now. A young low experience QB, if he gets some NFL video might be worth something at the end of 4 years. Besides, Howie may burst if he doesn't draft a Quarterback. Hmmm, now that I think about it .....

No thanks. We should not be giving up any draft capital to get Foles or any back up QB for that matter. If he gets cut then OK fine I guess (I'm still not convinced) but we should not be trading to get him.

It’s a moot point now that we signed Flacco but it was my understanding that it was a cap benefit for Chicago to trade Foles rather than cut him. We might’ve been able to give up a 7th for a 6th in return. I’d take that over Flacco.

I can see your point but personally I'd prefer Flacco.
