Are you sure about that?  It tastes like plastic.

You have to take the wrapper off first.

Oh sheet!  I knew I was doing something wrong.  They really shouldn't make it clear like that.

When I lived in berks county, when you ordered a hoagie they asked you hard or soft roll.  New job had me move to Lehigh county.  1st time I ordered a Italian I asked for soft roll and they looked at me like I was crazy.  Is this a regional thing ?

ive never heard that down here in the city or lower bucks.

btw - the roll, as important as anything correct ? im probably more of a fan of liscio's myself.

Somewhat sandwich related, I made some burgers on my pellet smoker for the first time, and they were very good. Definitely recommend anyone with a pellet grill trying it if you havent yet.

As a current Berks county resident, I have never heard that.....

No. It starts out as cheese and then gets non-cheese added in to make it plasticy and easily meltable.

 so it is cheese.

Sure, if you can say a hoagie is cheese, because there is cheese in it.

Looking it up, they are required to have 51% cheese to be able to call it cheese.

However, if it is basically half not cheese, it is something else.

very poor analogy there. i'd expect something like this from @Bear Grylls not you.

Yep, they're both still around. Never been in either so maybe I'll check them out one day.

Funny story about Intel's. I looked at a house behind there a few years ago up on the hill overlooking the shop. Walked into one of the rooms and there was chair rail around the wall that was coming off the wall at one point. I pulled it back and you could see in the wall. There was a 3x6 void in the wall that had just a steel chair and a 5 gallon bucket. I didn't look at the rest of the house

So what's the deal with these new pellet smokers anyway?  I have one of those old offset smokers, made some killer ribs and pulled pork on it. And I use a propane grill for everyday backyard burgers and dogs, and it's convenient.

If I buy one of those pellet smokers, do I have to buy specific bags of pellets/fuel? Are they going to change the pellet size every year, so I have to buy a new smoker as soon as I get one? Can I use charcoal or wood chips? Is it a grill, or is it a smoker?

They are not really new, just gaining in popularity.  A lot easier to use than an offset. Doesn't give quite as much smoke but it works like an oven, you get a temp and it stays there. As for pellets, every manufacturer says you should use their pellets but it's BS. I have a Traeger and exclusively use Pit Boss pellets because they are cheaper and sold at Lowes which is right down the road. The size and shape of the pellets is the same across brands.

My Traeger even has wifi and a phone app, I can monitor my cook without even being home.

Here are my last few cooks, a couple chickens, prime rib, and pork belly burnt ends.

To be completely honest, I prefer the more subtle smoke you get from the pellet smoker. Sometimes smoke you get from the stick burners overpowers the other flavors in the food you cooked.

Yeah, the offset is a pain in the butt to keep at constant temperature... But it's not too difficult once you figure out how yours is going to behave. I am looking to buy a vertical... Then I see these pellet grills and I wonder what they're about?

So can I use charcoal or wood chips, or do I have to go to the hardware store every time I use it to buy bagged pellets?

Just pellets. They last quite a while though. I usually buy 2 40lb bags from lowes for 15 bucks a bag, and it will usually last me a month or so.

A plus is you can fill the hopper with pellets, and if smoking at a low temp just put it on and go to sleep. At 225 or lower you hardly use any pellets. Great for briskets or pulled pork.
