July 26, 20214 yr Tens of thousands attend the "Redneck Rave" and only 14 people end up arrested with only a few assaults and no deaths? From a law enforcement perspective, that's not such a bad multi-day event. In fact, that's a good one. We had a typical rave in the Poconos years back in which there were about a half a dozen bodies as a result. Given a must choose scenario, I'll take the Kentucky version 10 out of 10 times.

I would tend to agree entirely with you about this. Same should be said about the protests last summer though. There were certainly plenty who were guilty of assault and worse, but what were there number relative to the whole if those marching?

October 15, 20214 yr Author Texas school administrator told teachers to include Holocaust books with 'opposing' views when explaining new state law https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/15/us/texas-schools-books-holocaust-state-law/index.html Yes, the crapstain is getting smellier. Quote "Just try to remember the concepts of (Texas House Bill) 3979," Peddy says, referring to the new law, known as HB 3979. "And make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust, that you have one that has opposing, that has other perspectives." "How do you oppose the Holocaust?" one teacher could be heard asking. "Believe me," Peddy said in a longer recording obtained by NBC. "That's come up."
October 19, 20214 yr Author Jewish Southlake residents on Holocaust remark: 'There are not two sides' https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/southlake-texas-holocaust-jewish-school-books-rcna3264 These people are insane. Trump has poisoned this country. We may never recover. Tin foil hat nonsense is now reported as news by half the 'news' outlets. It is treated seriously by elected members of the Senate and House. We are doomed.
October 19, 20214 yr The Southlake story has a lot of layers. If you listen to the original video that started this, you could readily interpret the administrator as someone who is not pushing the "two sides" argument about the Holocaust, but rather just preparing the teachers that "it's come up". Which, unfortunately, is true. If you listen to the totality of the conversation in context the administrator is not some bat-ish insane woman, and she doesn't give the impression of pushing any sort of agenda. They're just in a workshop trying to figure out how the hell they're going to deal with the BS law pushed on them, and trying to be prepared for what narratives parents may be sending their kids to school with. This is part of the problem when parents get TOO involved in the curriculum. Having witnessed enough parents in school board meetings going back 20 years, I can safely say that the best thing parents could do is STFU and let the teachers teach. If parents don't like something that is being taught they can discuss it in the home, and let the kid learn to think critically. Reserve the school board meeting confrontations for situations where there is actual malice at play, rather than making up twisted arguments about how teaching how race has colored our national history is somehow teaching "white guilt". And to be sure, there are instances where school board meetings with parents pushing back are necessary, but the latest CRT trend is a bunch of FUD. my 90% lily white suburban school district is not in danger of being overrun with "CRT" boogeymen, yet at every meeting there are moronic parents (and sometimes kidless members of the community ) arguing against something that literally does not exist outside their brainwashed heads and spinning that into an argument about how vaccines are the work of Satan (this quite literally was argued). Moderate Republicans need to hold the line and support moderate Democrat candidates against the fascist-adjacent mentality that is far too common now on the right.

October 19, 20214 yr Florida also has a much higher number of elderly residents, and a lower death rate per 100,000 despite this fact. By any metric, they are doing better than New York, but that doesn't matter to the idiots.

Why in the hell would someone attend a school board meeting if they didn't have children? Even if I had children, and was poor and sent them to public school, I wouldn't bother to attend. The whole point of not having kids is not having to give a damn about the future beyond your own expiration date.

We’ve had very involved people in our district that had no children and stated that if they did they’d send them to private schools. I have found that, in general, their interests are singularly focused on cutting costs to keep taxes down and not on quality of education.
