Arizona to ban people from filming police within 8ft

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/arizona-to-ban-people-from-filming-police-within-8ft/ar-AAZmt2o

The police are not the problem, making recordings of them is the problem.

Smooth.

i get it, having people hovering around too close will be an issue. so just record at 8.1ft ?

I read into that when it was posted on /r/libertarian. It's not quite as bad as it seems.

If you're the subject of the police questioning or in a vehicle pulled over by police it doesn't apply, nor does it apply if you're on private property.

It's mainly for bystanders to keep them out of the way of an investigation.

I tend to think it's pretty unnecessary. More of a virtue signaling law, and one that gives crappy cops an excuse to arrest someone who is recording crappy behavior. But it isn't quite as bad as the headline suggests.

We already have laws to deal with interfering with officers in their duty.

As more and more horrific videos of cops being thugs are released, we have laws like this in response, to protect the police from scrutiny. I'm against that.

How close is too close for any purpose including filming?

Wouldn't that depend on the situation? A flaming car might warrant a larger distance.

ERCOT issues call for voluntary conservation Monday

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas issued a call for voluntary conservation as low power reserves are projected.

Such a shame that Texas lacks the power to run the state. I thought energy producing was their thing?

Since things can vary, it makes sense to set a minimum distance as a safety measure. Recording the police from 8 ft. away will capture what happened. 8 ft. is pretty close.

I sincerely doubt this law is the result of a safety incident.

I would wager it is due to the plethora of bad police officers being caught on video. That is what they are trying to solve - officers being recorded, not public safety.

False. 8 ft. won't hide their misdeeds.

Throw PA into the mix.  Obviously, only central, western and NEPA.

Quote

ARRESTED - Maury Stevens, 42, of Malone huffed copious amounts of glitter glue at the Clinton County Fair, knocked out a Carny and tried taking his place at the beloved "$5 Kiss a Carny Booth." Patrons looking for a friendly smooch became suspicious of Steven's shiny face and never-ending gaze. Stevens quickly became aggressive  and began shouting at fairgoers. Steven's urinated on a woman's leg before being tackled by security. Stevens was charged with multiple violations by the New York State Police.

Idaho sheriff sends dire warning to 'idiotic' Biden officials: 'We are on the cusp of complete collapse'

Add Idaho.

Fact: the bulk of illegal drugs cross the southern border at legal checkpoints. No doubt, the majority of these are brought by US citizens who face less scrutiny than folks from south of the border.

I lived there for a year. My very first day in the state, fresh out of basic training, I walk into a bar, "Wudder yew doon in hyar boy?" This was the bartender. I turned around and left.

Mississippi where the beaches have more broken glass that shells.

I’m sure there are "some very fine people” too.

You mean drug traffickers don’t just put Muhammad and Jose in a u-haul truck and send them on their way? Weird.
