Why Philly legend Dick Vermeil sees double-digit wins for Eagles in 2021

Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil believes his old squad will win at least 10 games in 2021.

Former Eagles head coach Dick Vermeil likes his old team’s chances in 2021.

Vermeil, who led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl appearance following the 1980 season, is confident that new head coach Nick Sirianni will lead the team to a bounce-back campaign following Doug Pederson’s abrupt departure.

While speaking with Zach Brooks on the Upon Further Review podcast, Vermeil predicted double-digit wins for the Eagles.

"Now they have two first-round pick wide receivers [in Jalen Reagor and DeVonta Smith],” Vermeil said (via 94WIP). "They have one quality tight end locked in [in Dallas Goedert], and of course, the other quality tight end may [in Zach Ertz] or may not be here, I hope he is. I think they’ll be an excellent football team. My concern is their secondary. Will that be good against the best? But I bet they’ll win 10 games, maybe more.”

The Eagles went 4-11-1 last season, which led to Pederson and the majority of his staff getting shown the door.

The Eagles hired Sirianni in January and the head coach brought intriguing young coaches, Jonathan Gannon and Shane Steichen, on board to be his defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively.

The Eagles have reworked their roster as well, saying goodbye to the likes of DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery, Jason Peters, Jalen Mills and Malik Jackson. The front office has brought in free agents like Anthony Harris, Ryan Kerrigan, Eric Wilson and Le’Raven Clark to supplement the roster.

The Eagles also selected Smith, Landon Dickerson, Milton Williams and Zech McPhearson in the draft.

With several new faces at the NovaCare Complex, the Eagles could shock the rest of the NFC East and prove Vermeil right this season.

In NJ Advance Media’s win-loss projection earlier this month, we predicted the Eagles would go 9-8.

I remember Vermeil being a bit of a workout warrior himself when he was with the Eagles.  The guy was in great shape and he still looks like he takes good care of himself.  Would not be surprised to see him live into his 90's

Yup, early 90s

He often says these things, and is often wrong. He may suffer from OOPS...Overly Optimistic Personality Syndrome, which can lead to these types of errors.
