The NFL’s regular season kicks off in less than 100 days and as the Eagles and 31 other teams work to sculpt the perfect roster, some key veterans from previous years will enter the late summer on the hot seat.

With an impressive nine-man draft haul and some key free-agent signings, we’re taking a look at five players on the hot seat as training camp nears.

OL Matt Pryor (UFA)

The Eagles’ sixth-round pick from 2018, Pryor will be a free agent in 2022 and the addition of Landon Dickerson could provide the space for Philadelphia to part ways a year early.

Pryor has been a liability in tight spots and although he offers versatility, he’s on the roster bubble entering this season.

LB Genard Avery (UFA)

Now a hybrid, standup linebacker, Avery will play the same role that 2021 draft pick Patrick Johnson has been developed to fill.

A standup rusher who’s only had one standout performance, Avery is on the hot seat.

J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

The 14 catches over two seasons for a former second-round speak is all that needs to be written here.

Nick Sirianni can become the ultimate wide receiver whisperer if he can turn the former Stanford star’s Eagles career around.

LB T.J. Edwards (RFA)

The Eagles signed Edwards as an undrafted player in 2019 and he’s seen time in 28 games with 16 starts over the last two seasons. After looking like the teams’ middle linebacker of the future, Edwards could struggle to find a role in Jonathan Gannon’s defense.

The Eagles have draft picks Davion Taylor and Shaun Bradley waiting for bigger roles and both players are more athletic than the former Wisconsin star.

WR John Hightower

The Eagles drafted DeVonta Smith in the first round and a crowded receiver room could dwindle with Kenneth Gainwell also able to split out wide.

Shane Steichen and company will choose from a group that includes Smith, Reagor, Greg Ward Jr., Travis Fulgham, Quez Watkins, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Hightower.

That’s seven players and we didn’t even include Trevon Grimes.

I'm not sure Pryor is on the hot seat... I think he's very close to the garbage bin to be honest with you.
