NHJ gets some things right on a micro level but is largely misguided and sensationalist on a macro level. Ultimately, I see her as a product of academia's inflated insistence on "originality," which often leads to a place where academics take up grandiose, provocative theories simply because it will make their work seem novel or "original," even at the expense of seeming outlandish.
March 15, 20223 yr Quote The new law says no school, community college or university could teach that any "sex, race, ethnicity, religion or national origin is inherently superior or inferior.” From the Nbcnews website and the words from a new Mississippi law. A bone of little value thrown to the right. Of course the left treats it like a slippery slope. More silliness. The bill as written has, in practice, no substance and shouldn't be one that anyone spent any energy on.
March 21, 20223 yr Parents: Just stop sexualizing and indoctrinating our children. Teacher: Best I can do is force them to participate in a gay pride parade.
April 16, 20223 yr Now DeSantis going after math books for teaching CRT… There is some shenanigans going on here…. It’s the great dumbing down of America.
April 19, 20223 yr DeSantis bans math books because of CRT. When asked to provide examples he provided none. Fox news says the Math Books are indoctrinating our children. When asked to provide examples, Fox news says DeSantis says the evidence is overwhelming. Parent moves to Florida so child won't be indoctrinated by CRT Math. When asked for examples, the Parent says Fox News says its so, so it must be true.
April 21, 20223 yr "science books that don't teach science" Are those the science books that teach male/female biology?
May 4, 20223 yr Most parents feel like their teachers are doing a good job. The "culture war" is insignificant in schools. https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/news-polls/NPR-Ipsos-Parent-Child-Education-04282022 Quote Three-quarters of parents (76%) say their child’s school does a good job keeping them informed about the curriculum, including potentially controversial topics. No differences exist by party affiliation. Only 24% of parents believe they have too little say over what is taught and what books are in the library at their kid’s school. A plurality (37%) doesn’t know, while another third (34%) say they have about the right amount of influence. Republican parents (32%) are more likely than Democratic (18%) and independent ones (23%) to say they have too little say over what is taught and what books are in the library. More parents believe their child’s school is teaching about race and racism, the impact of slavery, and sexuality and gender identity in a way that is consistent with their values than not. However, a sizeable portion – roughly one in three – indicate they don’t know. Republican (26%) parents are more likely than Democratic (11%) and independent (17%) ones to say their child’s school is not teaching about sexuality and gender identity in a way that is consistent with their values. This is the only issue in the survey where there is a significant difference in opinion between Republican and Democratic parents. I feel like there's any angry vocal minority fueling these issues.
June 16, 20223 yr A story of an educator chased away from Georgia schools on unfounded fears of Critical Rate Theory - aided by local and national groups. Aggravating that this is happening in 2020s America. It's like they're turning back the clocks

Right-wing media activists manufacture a crisis, meet with people in the town, literally coach them on how to express their outrage and how to get on Tucker Carlson. These easily fooled idiots lose their sheet in a school board meeting and get people fired over things that have absolutely nothing to do with their jobs (before they even start working in this woman's case). Then, they even follow her to her next job (as a social studies teacher) and get her run out of another school, all when she didn't ever teach, talk about or even know what CRT was. Talk about cancel culture. These right wing scumbags are utterly disgusting.
June 28, 20223 yr You can teach there was a GI bill, but you cannot teach that it didn't apply to black people, because that would be just too awful for the puss-bags of the world.
