August 17, 20214 yr Agent23 almost had the opportunity to watch football with me but then he left CA. That would have been pretty cool for him
August 17, 20214 yr Back in my pre pandemic life, I did run into a lot of people traveling. Some quick hits. Joan Rivers - was walking off plane in ORD right past me (plane was late, I was waiting to board), chatting it up with who I assume was her seat mate. When she gets to the terminal hallway she said "Bye Bye sweetie, it was nice talking to you" while going on her way. Biden - Sat in first class with me. Didn't have any real interaction with him nor had any impressions from that interaction Bobby Lashley - Also first class, which was necessary. Dude is a tank Joe Theismann - Sat in the row behind me in first. I'll be honest, this interaction completely changed my opinion of him. In a former life my dad was a pretty successful computer salesman for someone who to this day has no clue how they work, so he would go down to trade shows. Theismann was a keynote speaker at a dinner and was really off putting to my dad (was a very Me Me Me speech, vs Terry Bradshaw who did a breakfast speech and captured a room of hung over salesmen). So I always thought he was a self absorbed ****. Two things stood out to me when he was on this flight: 1) The second a female who had a bag to put in the overhead, he jumped up immediately to offer help. 2) His seat mate was a Notre Dame fan and talked his ear off for the entire flight. He humored him the entire time. Which was impressive considering this was a red eye and was keeping him (and me) from getting some sleep) I was wrong. Dude is a gentleman. Mark Schlereth - For whatever reason, he was on my Denver to Washington (or was it Chicago) flight every week for several months. Nice dude, always polite to the FA's. While waiting to board he was always on the phone talking about either his restaurant or his son's baseball career. Val Venis - In 2004 I saw him on the train in DIA while going to terminal B. I said "Excuse me, did anyone ever tell you you look just like Val Venis". He replied "THATS BECAUSE I AM" in his in ring voice. Either he was staying in character or just talks like that, but either way I made sure I got some distance between us at our stop. The New Orleans Saints - Pretty much the entire team was on my flight from NOLA to Charlotte. OTAs just ended and NOLA really only flies to like 4 airports so most of them were on that flight to get to an AA hub. Ted Ginn JR is a skinny MFer. Next to zero calf muscle, which I found surprising. I'm sure I'll think of a dozen more after I hit submit, but I'll leave you with my favorite story Hillary Clinton - This was shortly after she lost to Obama in the primaries. Before I got to my flight I went to the United Lounge in SFO and had a few beers, you know, to help me sleep on the red eye flight. One thing that struck me as odd when I got there was I noticed about half a dozen of tall, fit men in suits kind of just standing around in the lobby area. Weird, but I checked in and went to the bar, had some beers and probably posted on here to kill time. It gets close to boarding time, so I headed over to my gate. Plane is there, passengers left a little while ago and crew is on the plane all ready, so I'm thinking, great, we are boarding on time and I can pass out. (Falling asleep right away was important because it was a 4 1/2 hour flight and its the only way to get some rest before I had to start work after we land) 5 minutes go by. Then 10 minutes, Then 15 minutes. People are now getting a bit restless because we all want to get on and get some rest. All of a sudden, those dozen suits rush the plane passing right by the woman who was checking tickets. The person who was standing in front of me said "Did you see who that was?" No. "That was Hillary Clinton". Sure enough, as soon as I board on the plane it's her (and Huma, if I am not misremembering) sitting front and center. Because this was a 777 (SFO and IAD are major United hubs, so we often got the bigger planes), first class had two aisles and so literally half had to walk past her: When we landed, 4 suits rushed the plane. 2 blocked the aisles while the other two quickly escorted them off the plane. Because of where I was sitting I was one of the very first people off the plane and she was nowhere in sight. I assume they had a car waiting for her on the tarmac. This leads me to this question: What was secret service thinking? Why would you hold up an entire plane to make sure Hillary got on first? Because she had overhead bags? Arrange it so that you can get them on the plane prior to boarding (or have the spots held), let everyone board and then get Hillary on the plane. Only those of us in first would know and most of us will be sleeping already anyway. Instead, you delayed it long enough so EVERYONE was waiting to board, many of us irritated because we just wanted to get on and sleep, and you got her on the plane in a way that drew attention to everyone in the area. And then you have her seated in a spot so literally half of everyone passed her to get to their seats. Seems like a huge security risk.

Since you cracked the seal on Spadaro as a celebrity - I will jump on the bandwagon and say I met him in Phoenix during Pro Bowl week a few years back. Met some other NFL dudes out there too and had a fun conversation with Minnesota Viking great John Randle who would come out to the Lehigh Valley for Andre's golf tournament and he shared a couple drinking stories he had at the Sands Casino. Otherwise have had a glaring lack of encounters with high end movie stars or politicians. Meanwhile I have a friend who works in NYC who sends me selfies every other week with some music, movie or TV star he's bumped into...
August 17, 20214 yr I once did the white boy dance on stage with the roots. It was on a national network. I've checked and it doesn't exist on the internet as far as I can tell.
August 17, 20214 yr Most involve basketball players. I met David Robinson at a Bennigan's in Orlando. He was nice. Had the kids at Animal Kingdom, and it was downpouring, so we ducked into the Bug's Life attraction. Robin and Brook Lopez were in there with another d00de who looked like a bball player, but I didn't recognize. Anyway, they were with their kids, and were really tall, so we didn't bother them, just stood off to the side and pointed and whispered, which I'm sure they appreciated. Another involved weed, and a former UNC player at spring break in Myrtle Beach, and I don't want to sully his name, so I won't reveal it. And no, there was no ghey sex involved. Lynwood Robinson was my best friend from HS's roommate at Appalachian State, and we partied with him all the time. Good guy. Who is Lynwood Robinson? A little known bballer who played on UNC's 1981-1982 National Championship team with Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Matt Doherty, etc... Dean Smith put Lynwood into the National Championship game, he immediately jacked up a shot, which he missed, and was quickly taken out for the rest of the game. Anyway, he had a ball that was signed by everyone on that team. I got to hold it. I coveted it greatly.
August 17, 20214 yr Spring of 97 - i was a college student in NYC. We were walking up Madison or Park Ave (I can’t remember which) one evening when one of my friends said "there’s Donald Trump.” We kind of gawked at him and he stared back at the three of us. He was going into a restaurant with his wife/gf and I think Ivanka, who would have been a teen-ager at the time. Anyway I’d sort of forgotten about it but I must have told my now 16-y-o daughter because she brought it up the other day.

August 18, 20214 yr Couple of football encounters. I once saw Darwin Walker eating dinner with his family at a nearby Ruby Tuesdays. I went there again a few months later, and Darwin Walker was eating dinner there with his family. I guess he likes that place. I saw Juan Castillo grocery shopping one night. I once took a leak in a urinal right next to Hank Stram. There was no peaking and no conversation involved.
August 18, 20214 yr Having managed a liquor store in Voorhees I have run into some Flyers. Keith Primeau, Bobby Clarke (looking for non-alcoholic wine of course), and at least a few others I will remember when I'm not on my 3rd glass of Scotch. Hockey players are into good wines and beer. There used to be this bar at the Main Street complex in Voorhees (high end condos on the upper area with shops on the lower area), The Main Street Pub. I was taking a piss at the urinal and suddenly the light is blocked because some big dude was standing at the urinal next to me. It was Bundy. A fair amount of Flyers lived in that complex and hung out at that bar. I once saw Podein there as well. At the last AC Beerfest Kelsey Grammer was there helping promote his brewery, Faith American. Talked to him for about 30 seconds and shook his hand. Nice fellow. Heard he was there for all 3 sessions and everyone else who met him said he was nice. In Summer of '94 I went to see the band Live at The Mann and there's an area to the right of the stage, outside the seating area that wraps around towards behind the stage, and I was there with this girl I had met through my cousin the previous November when we went to see a Live show (then met her again in line camping out for tickets, anyone remember doing that?, so the tickets we both got were just a couple rows apart from each other), and the whole band was there hanging out in this sectioned off area along with one of the members' dogs named Cheetah. We chatted with them a bit, mostly saying how we saw them in November, how good the show was and how we were looking to another great show. They were cool, laid back, down to Earth types. The reason I mention the dog's name is because they played a song they were testing out and I heard it introduced as Cheetah while this girl (who would ask me for my number at this concert then we would date for a while) heard it as Cheater and we would debate about it. Then the next concert months later there was an article about them in the SJ Courier Post and it mentioned one of the songs they play in their set is Cheetah. So I just had to call her home # knowing she was at work and leave her a smug response, basically reading that part of the article so I could claim my victory. Good times. We're still friends today.
