Ok I wasn't seeing things then. The one example they gave, I was like omg you have got to be kidding!

Then come to find out how PA State Police are funded from transportation funds, siphoning money from roads... You begin to understand how PA gas tax got so high and roads are still so bad! IMO they should reform the whole system. It can't be done overnight.

States are seeing stagnant revenue from gasoline taxes, the major source of cash for highway construction, and are increasingly experimenting with user fees.

PennDOT has said its current highway and bridge budget for construction and maintenance is about $6.9 billion per year, less than half of the $15 billion that is needed to keep Pennsylvania’s highways and bridges in good condition and ease major traffic bottlenecks.

To raise about $2 billion over the next few years, PennDOT is seeking to add tolls to nine major bridges on interstates around the state to finance reconstruction projects, drawing objections from Republican lawmakers.

Lawmakers are discussing slapping fees on electric vehicles, while Wolf has proposed, without success in the Legislature, ways of weaning the state police budget off highway construction funds.

Meanwhile, the Legislature’s efforts to fund transportation over the past two decades have run up debt and costs to motorists.

A 2007 law siphoning hundreds of millions of dollars from turnpike tolls each year — now more than $7 billion in total since then — has plunged the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission deeper into debt.

The commission has more than $14 billion in debt, as of last year, double what it reported a decade ago. It paid $652 million in interest and borrowing costs last year, more than half of its total revenue and more than its operating costs for the year, according to its financial statement.

At the same time, turnpike tolls have more than doubled in 12 years to $47 across the length of the highway and more than quadrupled for motorists who don’t have E-Z Pass to $95.30, or almost a quarter per mile.

A 2013 law increased the gasoline tax and various motorist fees to raise more than $2 billion a year for highway construction and other transportation needs.

As a result, Pennsylvania’s gas tax is now No. 2 in the nation, behind California, at 58.7 cents per gallon, according to an analysis by the Washington-based Tax Foundation.

I heard about that.  Not getting rid of the gas tax, but finding new ways to gouge you for electric vehicles since that revenue is going away.  This f'n state.

I promise PA isn't the only state considering this!

Florida is about to screw over people with solar pretty nicely. Florida Power and Light literally wrote a bill and paid two politicians 10k in campaign donations  to sponsor it. Basically it lets them pay you 30% of what they currently have to pay for the power your system provides back to the grid which they in turn charge people the full retail rate for. They also started charging a monthly minimum bill. The politicians don’t even try to pretend to not be bought anymore.

On 2/22/2022 at 7:34 AM, paco said:

Id like to see that bill.  Typically net metering allows you to offset your full utility bill throughout the year and any overages on top of that you get paid back.  However PECO, for example caps you at 110% generation per month so in essence anything you put back into the grid above that you get $0.  So if that bill removes the caps then that would actually be an incentive for people to remove the cap, maximize the amount of power they can generate and get more money back at the end of the year.

Edit: I put a quasi gripe about that in my lessons learned:

  • With most power companies, you can’t go and buy as many panels as you please.  Why?  I have no clue.  For example, with PECO we are having to jump through some hoops to make a case to put more panels than what would be needed to cover our current usage by 110%  (110% is the maximum amount they allow in their net metering program, so basically you can cover your electric and roll over an additional 10%). We have built into our proposal two future electric cars (which is why we are jumping on the Mustang now) as well as a tankless water heater.

Last night I saw a summary of what you described but haven't read (but found) the actual bill.  It appears the reasoning is that even though the users are generating the electricity, the power company needs to maintain the grid\infrastructure, etc.  In a way, it makes sense to me.  If you pay 10 cents per unit of energy (fake number, fake unit, keeping it simple), that's the total cost from generation to upkeep.  If you generate a unit of energy, getting 10 cents doesn't make sense since you paid nothing for the means of delivery.

HOWEVER, only getting credit 30% feels like price gouging.  I'm curious what 3rd party energy suppliers get charged to use said companies grid and through their meters.  It should be close to that.  Either way, while yes its nice that there is a 20 year wait for it to take effect to keep people from feeling the hit and maintain their financing, this will absolutely kill near future personal investment into solar.

Thanks for this.  I've never thought about it from this angle before and I wouldn't be shocked if other states follow.  Take into account that there are quite a few power companies that are splitting their generation businesses from their metering business (See: PP&L), and it may become common quickly.

The salesman who took our Mach-E order sent schmoopie a video today.  They got a 2022 Mach-E in the ice white package, just like we ordered, delivered today so he took a video so we could see it.  I decided to send the video to a couple of family members who are car guys.  Here is the one exchange I had:

My kids put a beating on two mini vans. But I'm not especially over protective of cars either.

I hear that.  I'm actually more worried about our two dogs when we have to travel with them.

We had cloth seats in the first van, not much of an issue with the dog. The second had leather and the dogs nails can scratch the ish out of them. I just kept an old blanket in the van and used that. Never dealt with white leather before so I'm not sure if it shows minor blemishes more than black does.

leather is great for kids. Its easy to wipe clean. Get a good car detailing leather product for the tougher stuff. I love detailing my car. The products I use on my leatheer are:

https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Wax-Hybrid-Solutions-Inside/dp/B09L1MKB8R

Turtle wax has a product called Inside Job. Its a graphene + ceramic coating for the interior of the car, safe for pretty much all surfaces including leather. I used it on my seats. Graphene products are the top of the line products for hydrophobic protection.

Though it does advertise some UV protection I still use another product for that. https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-SPI_111_16-Leather-Protectant/dp/B00FALW0UW/ref=sr_1_4?crid=ESE96RIW6M3V&keywords=chemical+guys+leather+serum&qid=1645751777&s=automotive&sprefix=chemical+guys+leather+serum%2Cautomotive%2C87&sr=1-4

I dont use a leather conditioner because a lot of them seem to be more glossy and slick. I prefer to keep it on the more natural, matte side. Just a tiny bit of shine.  The Chemical guys leather serum is what I use for UV protection.

And lastly, when my seats are dirty, before I do any of the above products, I first use a leather cleaner.

https://www.amazon.com/Adams-Leather-Interior-Cleaner-16oz/dp/B077TK1Q1Y/ref=sr_1_8?crid=3IN33YH1RU7TS&keywords=adams+leather+cleaner&qid=1645751954&s=automotive&sprefix=adams+leather+cleaner%2Cautomotive%2C84&sr=1-8

71rOocIIuJL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Adams Leather Cleaner does a great job. I have black leather. The kids eat in my car a lot. Spill drinks like hi-c that would be stick and stain a ton of stuff. Everything comes off. Last summer we hit a bunch of waterfall locations in the poconos. My sister was with us and uses a mechanical blocking sun block. Those are the kinds that dont rub in well, and leave a long lasting white layer on your skin. It was left all over my car. I didnt know if I would ever get it cleaned. Not only did it clean off. It cleaned off easily. Not much scrubbing needed. No residue or discoloration left behind.

My wife has light gray leather. Not white, but light enough that you would worry it could show a lot of stains. The Adams Cleaner has never met a mess it couldnt clean in her car either.

And for kids crumbs in the back seat, I try to stay on top of it as much as I can to keep from needing the big shop vac all the time. I have this portable vacuum by Worx. It has lithium batteries that work in my couple other worx powershare tools. Its convenient to keep in the car and always have handy to make sure small messes dont add up to become a big mess. Doesnt take up much room at all in the trunk.

I still say it's blasphemy that ford turned an iconic muscle car into an electric crossover.. Yes I know electric cars have a faster take off and all that, it's still weird though lol.

It’s just marketing. They still make mustangs. Personally I would have went with the Fusion since it was discontinued in 2020 but here we are.

They didn’t turn it into that… they just added it to the line. The original Mustang is still available

I'm well aware of that, I still don't have to like it though.

I know it's still weird though. Kinda like back in the late 80's early 90's they put a 4 cylinder in a mustang to save on gas but still own a muscle car..... Sheet was the slowest car on the road.

I mean they’ve always had an "affordable” option. The original 65 offered those straight 6 engines and models today even offer a 6 cylinder. I don’t know.. most of my cars have been Mustangs including a Cobra at one time. My dream car is the 65 fastback 289 4 speed manual with pony interior. The Mach E is on the cutting edge of electric cars and new technology. I’m fine with it having the Mustang name 🤷🏻‍♀️

Today the 4cyl ecoboost is faster than the 6cyl. And I thought they've actually  discontinued the 6cyl mow.

I knew an engineering student who was also a very talented machinist, who built a 400 HP turbo 4 cylinder Mustang from almost exclusively junk yard parts. It was the ugliest, most fun car ever.

He had some stuff on a webpage about how he built the car, Ill see if it's still around later when I have time to search.

Think I convinced the wife to order a Tesla Model 3 Performance.  Seems to be the best all around electric cars these days.  3.1 0-60 isn't bad either.  And their supercharger network won't be touched for years.

I'm not knocking it! Just discussing it lol.

I saw a commercial for Chevy Silverado electric.... Wonder how many millions that thing is? Claims to get 400 hrs on one charge.

My dad restored cats his whole life, we have had mustangs ,flare side pick ups , corvettes Chevelle's.

So I'm just being a get off my lawn kind of guy right now lol.

My dream car is a 68 Camaro or the GTO judge for a classic. The newer ones I want the Corvette C8 or a lt1 Camaro.

Maybe I'll spend enough at Costco to get one one day 😂
