This was what I was referring to - that area has NEVER been affected by a hurricane before.

It has. Just a few years ago there was flooding from the remnants of a hurricane, but nowhere near this. The area is no stranger to flooding or hurricanes but this was several levels above what's been experienced in contemporary history.

And you can expect these events far more frequently moving forward.  It’s evident as the 100 and 500 yr storms are no longer as modeled.  And why FEMA is releasing a major update to its floodplain mapping.

Maybe the right will start to realize that doing nothing about climate change is a bad idea.

These are the exact events I envisioned when I started I started this thread.

Trump is traveling there, which means resources will be diverted to clear roads and protect him, instead of helping those in need.

I'm a little late to this, working.  Kudos to your son for being a pilot as I imagine this is the only way they are getting to folks.  Hope he stays safe up there.

This is one road through one valley (granted it looks like a major road for the region), but now imagine this exact same scenario, in every direction, for hundreds and hundreds of square miles.

I really hope political D measuring doesn't come in the way of getting everyone there help ASAP. That's all I'll say. Hurricane season being so close to election season is such crap timing.

Yessir. There’s too much to be done and too many people need help to be worrying about the politics of it right now.

You are responding to a woman whose handle literally implies she's a low end hooker turning tricks in pubs.  Context is everything.

Don't ever assume you are dealing with members of the intelligentsia here.

Wonder how they're going to move this thing?

I'd like to take opportunity to say that while I understand the casualty insurance industry is designed to F people over, there's a special place in hell for whoever is responsible for the insurance laws in Florida.

That's all.

They’re not.  It will be scrapped most likely .

Thanks Di. They took his little plane up there today but he flies for LabCorp and is working to organize a larger drive through them then will use one of their bigger planes to fly it up there. This video is from Chimney Rock. This was a gorgeous little mountain lake community with a nice old hotel, cabins all around it, they filmed part of Dirty Dancing there. It's just hard to believe this is the same place.

NO.  What people do not realize and seems all they worry about is landfall.  So, it ticked east and luckily Atlanta was spared the more damaging part of the storm.

Here is a link from last week.  Notice the wording.  Stop saying the Appalachians weren't warned.  They were

UPDATED: September 25, 2024. Reporters: This is a rare news release from NOAA for an operational weather event. We urge the news media to continue focusing the public’s attention on the major impacts from inland flooding expected along the path of Helene well after landfall.

The major flood risk includes the urban areas around Tallahassee, metro Atlanta and western North Carolina, including Asheville.

He is a waste of resources. Building a tiny fake wall? WTF is wrong with this fat sack?

Thankfully I've heard from a few of the people I work with this morning.  Still many more that I haven't heard from yet (I'm sure I'm way down on their list of people to contact) but it's a relief to have some news.  Industry is completely shut down in Asheville.  If any company was fortunate to not suffer debilitating damage no shipments are allowed in or out to keep the few passable roads open for emergency vehicles.

Trump using the disaster to play politics, and divert resources away from helping people.

A wall to protect his bone spurs? Hiding that funky stance, that sure looks like dementia?

Local governments all over the region started telling citizens to quit helping yesterday, even threatening to arrest citizens who were in the process of helping their neighbors. The same citizens who were risking their lives to help their neighbors while the governments spent the 1st 3 days putting their boots on. Unreal.

Listen to these lying, snake Biden apologists!!!

What’s the context here?  Why were local governments doing this?

I'm assuming they would say for safety and continuity, but it's misplaced and over the top. My oldest was preparing to fly another load to the private helicopters to take out to isolated areas and he, and the private helicopters, were told that they would not be allowed to land at any airport, or anywhere else in the area. Hasn't stopped citizens from doing what they can to help though. Our highways are full of trucks, all hauling trailers loaded with necessities on their way there. :usa:

They don’t want to have to rescue the rescuers.  How do you not get it?

Yes?  When its deemed too dangerous for rescue efforts, you have to keep idiot amateurs from making it worse and adding themselves to the list of those needing to be saved. This is more common than you think.
