I'm assuming they would say for safety and continuity, but it's misplaced and over the top. My oldest was preparing to fly another load to the private helicopters to take out to isolated areas and he, and the private helicopters, were told that they would not be allowed to land at any airport, or anywhere else in the area. Hasn't stopped citizens from doing what they can to help though. Our highways are full of trucks, all hauling trailers loaded with necessities on their way there. :usa:

Honestly, I get it.  Volunteers are not equipped many times to rescue.

FYI, received notification from one of my big customers in the Asheville area, they resumed normal operations, at 2 plants, this morning.

Think those needing rescue care? The government has no playbook for this. This is a whoever gets there to help first scenario. It's going on a week now and the government is just ramping up. They should welcome the help not criminalize it. Lord knows those who need it welcome it.

Yes?  When its deemed too dangerous for rescue efforts, you have to keep idiot amateurs from making it worse and adding themselves to the list of those needing to be saved. This is more common than you think.

Gets too dangerous? It was more dangerous in the beginning. This isn't about safety, it's about control and corruption and those needing rescue are going to suffer for it, with many more dying while waiting for the government to show up.

I read the Cajun Navy was there.  Are they stopping them too?  They didn't stop them for Harvey.  Different State I guess.  Maybe its an aviation safety thing, but surely the local officials could have vetted these pilots and incorporated them into a plan to save people while waiting the feds.  To hell with the liability issues. I hope no one dies because of this.

No, it's about deterring yahoos from complicating the mission of the National Guard and the Army corp. Hey if soem random hero defies the blockades and does some good, cool beans.  But with this order if you go in ansd cause them to spend critical and limited resources on saving your arse, well guess what buddy, you were warned and that $100k helicopter bill is on you.

The only ones complicating any missions are the government.  Those yahoos have been the ones doing the job since the storm was still raging.  The government(s) cannot reach everyone anytime soon, it is going to take communities. Right now those mountains are pretty much an ocean and the peaks are individual islands. You cannot travel between islands by car or truck, only by air. The government has barely begun to bring the necessary air assets in.  One of my sons managers got a notification today that their national guard unit is active, effectively immediately, for the next month. That's a week after the fact. The situation is now well past desperate, and while everyone there might be doing everything they can there's not enough there and reducing the number of actual rescuers is the exact wrong thing to do.

This is the government who, after a week of warming the car up, is ready to do it all

FEMA just received $20 billion in the recent spending package to avoid government shutdown. LINK

Congress recently replenished a key source of FEMA’s response efforts, providing $20 billion for the agency’s disaster relief fund as part of a short-term government spending bill to fund the government through Dec. 20. The bill also gave FEMA flexibility to draw on the money more quickly as needed.

But it's that $640 million that is really hampering their efforts.

Quit the hysterics dude. A hurricane like that will give you plenty of heroic moments and tragedies in the community. During the storm and in the days before mobilization gets there that's what's up.  Then comes the Federal/Fema cleanup and the first thing they need is order.  This type of mandate is typical, happened during plenty of storms including ones under Trump like Harvey.

I realize it's relatively early, but this is in the running for the most ignorant thing posted here today. Also:

Have you been to Lake Lure?  I mean, I kind of get why the fire chief wants to keep people out.  It’s a one-way in and one-way out type of place.  If some citizens who want to be heroes jam up the limited roads there are that could be a big problem for ongoing rescues.

I think that response by Rep. Cory Mills just took the lead for most ignorant. He is politicizing a tragedy.

I actually lived through Trump's Maria response.  5k died in the aftermath. You're being hysterical because Trump has decided to rile you all up and get hysterical over a situation that is going to be long, arduous, dangerous, costly and difficult.

You were good at first in this thread, now you’ve become your typical political talking point.  Yawn.  So very sad.

Has Rep. Mills backed legislation to combat climate change?  Guessing no.  Maybe start looking into helping to fix the root cause of progressively worse disasters?  Maybe do something to keep your constituents safe, instead of lining your pockets while they continue to suffer.

This x100.  FEMA was an afterthought run by cronies until Katrina. Since then the Caijun Navy mafia has been running the new playbook which is more more agile and robust, but still wasteful and chaotic. If the new reality is going to have us dealing with cat 5' and cat 6's and catastrophic fires, blizzards and draughts every single year, we will need a more dedicated, cost effective and disciplined force than the sub contractors and their bands of wildling storm chasers to deal with it.  For that to happen it might help if half of congress stops denying climate change.

Sounds like some of the municipalities may have wised up. Oldest was cleared to fly 300lbs worth of supplies to Banner Elk, who were reportedly completely cut off by washed out bridges during the storm.

I'd like to take opportunity to say that while I understand the casualty insurance industry is designed to F people over, there's a special place in hell for whoever is responsible for the insurance laws in Florida.

That's all.

What's the matter - you didn't have enough coverage?  It's a problem here when renewing policies, the renewals usually provide coverage for earlier property values and to increase coverage, the premiums spike significantly.
